Whats the Best 1st Round MatchUp?

We should worry about MAKING the playoffs first.

Best 1st round matchup? What does that matter when you can't beat the worst team in the league in order to clinch a playoff spot?

Hm I don't know if you knew that.. but in the western conference, Anaheim and Chicago lost to teams which are (nearly) last in the league, too.

Chicago :
5 - 6 against Edmonton
2 - 6 against Colorado

Anaheim:
1 - 3 against Calgary
1 - 4 against Colorado

So this "we can't even beat the worst team in the league" argument is worth nothing.

Get in. That's all that matters. Worrying about matchups is silly. We've beaten MTL in a series, so it's not impossible, and quite honestly I think we're due for an upset against Pitt.

They just lost to arguably the worst team in the NHL. Any 1st round matchup is a blessing

This. That said, give me anyone except pittsburgh and I'll say we have a chance. Not expecting us to go far at this moment, but who knows...maybe Staal and Dorsett are in next week and the team complexion changes significantly. It's possible.

The best match-up on the links? I think Henrik and Richards could outshoot any other tandem on the team.

Really no hugely optimistic scenario at this point.

Pittsburgh is Pittsburgh. I hat em. Would love to beat them, but the odds would not be in our favor.

Montreal, of course, has our number and has home ice advantage.

Facing a motivated Jaromir Jagr is an intimidating prospect. Would be a good series with the Bruins but Rask has been every bit as good at Henrik this year which takes away our usual advantage at the goaltending position.

Washington has the league's hottest goal scorer and is on a roll going into the postseason. And of course, we always play the caps.

Whats the deal with Crosby's jaw? Havent heard much on him. Makes a world of difference regarding how I feel.

The worst concussions are often hits to the jaw. I think his head might be taking time to stabilize.

I'm a fan of Rask but I think your overrating his post season play compared to what Hank will bring to the table.

anyone here remember reading the game sticky thread for game 5 vs caps last year, that final 10 min before richards scored

the 180 was laughable, so many fans insane hate, those same fans seconds later doing a 180

im just pointing out especially on the net fans have short memorys and only remember the last 24 hours

It sounds pessimistic but i really don't fancy our chances against any of our potential match ups.

-Pens would be too good

-Bruins i think would be the best match up but i still think we lose

-Caps are red hot at the right time

-Montreal make us their ***** all the time.

I think the only way we get past round 1 is if Hank goes super-human which there is certainly a good chance of that happening, Is it enough though?

We just aren't consistent enough i don't think.

or glass half full

Pens are banged up big time
Bruins are playing tons of games in a short time frame
Caps are read hot but Rangers wont get 6th
Montreal is sucking, they likely over acheived earlier

Matchup's mean nothing. Every team is equally as dangerous. It doesn't matter who we face.

Boston or Washington. All hot streaks come to an end, and Boston is tired. But the thought of playing the Caps for what, the 4th year in a row, is nauseating. I am tired of NBCS saying we have a real rivalry going on.

We (the new York rangers) couldn't beat the worst team in the league (the florida panthers). That is true. It has absolutely nothing to do with the ducks or the hawks. Sorry but that's true.

Oh and by the way they also have a crappy record against teams in playoff position. What's that worth?

I made it a poll.

I'd say we match up against Boston best. The Caps are hot, and I'm tired of seeing them. **** playing in Montreal and Pittsburgh.

I wouldn't mind facing Boston or Washington in the first round.

The Caps do not scare me.

Pitt and Montreal? I hope we never see them.

Either Washington or Boston, preferably Boston. Caps always play us tough minus the 8-something goal game a few years back at MSG. If we wind up facing a healthy Pitt in the 1st round it's gonna be ugly.. Pens win that one in 5

sens/pens would be great especially karlson coming back and the whole cooke storyline

with a great goalie and richards big game past this team has potential to upset whoever we play

same goes for the young an hungry islanders, and with karlson returning maybe even the sens
