Whats the Best 1st Round MatchUp?

Assuming we even make the playoffs, we match up best with Boston.

-Montreal is coming back to Earth, but we can't even beat them at their worst in the Bell Centre.

-Capitals are 50/50 for me. I think we can beat them but Ovechkin is ridiculously hot right now and the team is burning through the win column.

-Pittsburgh is just an absolute no assuming their roster is healthy. They are far and away the best team in the East.

Montreal is a mediocre team with some great players and some excited (yes excited, not a typo) new talent under a new coach who meshed well, went on a tear, and overachieved. The realities of a full season would have exposed that sooner or later and we're seeing it now. I still don't wanna see them in the playoffs at all if possible.

Firstly because that city just kills our team for whatever reason, and secondly because I happen to live in that city and that fan-base is insufferable as it is. And that includes my girlfriend and her parents.

I'll take Boston, even though we'll probably lose Girardi and/or Cally to Chara bombs.

Montreal.

Til you remember our record playing there....:(

Out of the top 4, I actually think Boston would be. SO i hope we stay at 7.

I think the trade deadline acquisitions make us able to compete with the Bruins physically, whereas we couldn't before. Plus, not sure how Rask will look in the playoffs.

I'm hoping for Boston but these things hardly ever work out the way you want them to. How would you feel if you hope for Boston and then get swept? It would be cool to have the Knicks/Celtics series and Rangers/Bruins series going on at the same time.

You guys might have a shot at Mtl. We (NJ) beat them today, saw them in person, and they lost a step in their game for sure.

They just lost to arguably the worst team in the NHL. Any 1st round matchup is a blessing

Pretty much anyone but the Habs. Price could just hang his jersey over the cross bar and go have lunch, there is absolutely no way we'd manage to score, hehe.

We match up best against a playoff contending team. Conclusion: make the playoffs first. Sorry, I had to be a rotten goose egg. The timing of this thread after a gutless loss is off.

im on the fence with habs/caps

even though we play like crap in montreal they seem very beatable right now

caps we beat them last year and seem beatable but then again there hot right now, and ovy could be the most dangerous player in the opening round

bruins well there the bruins, so i dont really want to play them, but they do have 6 game in 9 days so they could be tired, and they didn't look great last year vs caps

maybe it really doesn't matter, as long as we are out of 8th

If there was any possible way of perpetually facing the Islanders regardless of who wins/loses in every other match up/round, we might stand a chance of..doing something. The Rangers as a team have shown zero consistency this season, so really any team we'll end up playing (Pittsburgh/Boston/Montreal/Washington) will most likely wipe the floor with us.

Price will return to channeling Ken Dryden is he faces the Rangers.

Haha! You guys are just as bi-polar as we are

You beat the Panthers, or blew them out I should say, a few days ago. I think, unfortunately :p:, you guys caught fire at the right time. I seriously doubted I would see the Rangers in the dance a few weeks ago. Then again I didn't think we would go 3-13-3 either.

I would be worried about the Pens though.

It's not really a matter of being bi-polar (although we really can be sometimes). Historically, the Rangers are awful against..well, everyone. 9 out of 10 wins are described as "somehow finding a way" and "grinding it out, hoping for that lucky bounce."

If there is a rookie forward/defenseman/goaltender playing in their first NHL game or have less than a dozen NHL games experience, they are almost 100% guaranteed to have a monster game against us. Goaltender is almost assured a shutout. Skaters almost assured a goal; at the very least a point.

In important games, our biggest players play almost as if they refused to play that night and proceed to just sort of be there physically, but not mentally.

The Rangers playoff hopes possibly coming down to the last game of the season is also nothing new, so chances are you guys will get your revenge come Saturday.

Devils are so similar, it's not even funny. Back-up goalie? shutout. NHL player without a goal? he'll score on Marty for sure. Both teams play down or up to the level of their opponent.. frustrating when you play bad teams but awesome when you play top teams. Heck, your game tonight was practically the story of our season.

That'd be fun if it came down to the last game. Would be a good one to watch because I think the whacking you guys gave us the other day would inspire the guys to play better this time around without much pressure. You guys would have the season on the line as well so would expect Lundqvist et al to be at the top of their games. Wish the game was at the Rock so we could return that nice chant you guys had going on if such a situation arose :naughty:

On topic though- you guys would destroy the Canadians. 7th is the spot to be right now. Washington is too hot at 3 and Pittsburgh is certainly beatable.. but I'd much rather be 7th and go into a series with them with some momentum first. Montreal or Boston are both struggling big time..

lol remember last year when the sens were up 3-2 going home

most fans here were throwing this team under the bus, then again before richards scored that late goal vs the caps same thing

then seconds later a complete 180

some of you guys are so short minded/bipolar, but this is the internet so im not surprised

the east is wide open imo, even the pens might not have crosby in the 1st round, and we all know what happened to the "heavy favorites" last year with bruins/pens

I'm totally tooting my own horn and being a total jerk here, but this is in reference to your Senators series comments.

After we went down 3-2, I remember going internet Messier style and guaranteeing victory in that series. What a good following two games those were. :D

Thing is we shouldn't be pulling our hair hoping and praying for offense on a nightly basis and struggling against the 30th team in the league. This team should be oozing offense left, right, and center. They don't give us much to hope for most nights other than the outside chance that maybe someone will finally step up after 55 minutes and score a goal. I know a goal is a goal whenever it's scored and doesn't count any more or less, but that's like saying you'd be happy with your favorite football team tossing hail mary's or trying to run straight up the gut into a pile of 10 guys every single play for an entire game and then wondering why their offense is suffering.

I don't like to see disinterested and lackadaisical play from guys who are getting paid millions to play a game. I don't like investing myself in a team that, like just about every Rangers squad of years past, you have absolutely no idea what kind of team is going to show up. Will it be the Lundqvist show, where he outperforms everything on the planet? Will Callahan turn the tides of the game with a huge hit and spirited shift after shift? Will one of our defensemen break up a 3-on-1? Will Richards set up a beautiful play that gives us the lead? Or will they all just fall flat on their faces and not make it look like they're even trying to get up? That's what frustrates most fans about this team, and it's not just exclusive to this year.

Do you recall what happened with the Rangers being referred to as "heavy favorites"?

It sounds pessimistic but i really don't fancy our chances against any of our potential match ups.

-Pens would be too good

-Bruins i think would be the best match up but i still think we lose

-Caps are red hot at the right time

-Montreal make us their ***** all the time.

I think the only way we get past round 1 is if Hank goes super-human which there is certainly a good chance of that happening, Is it enough though?

We just aren't consistent enough i don't think.

Montreal? **** no.

I actually want Pittsburgh, will be a hell of a series and the last game was a potential preview of that.

We want to win, the team want the cup so it's probably better to get them over with before our team starts to wear down and they getting their stars back on the ice.

Boston I feel like it's 50/50. And for Washington atleast Semin won't beat us anymore but they seems to be on fire atm.
