he makes that 2L bottle look so small

The answer seems to be "whatever each player wants."

Milk would be a poor choice.

Exactly! I don't care who the sponsor is, the player decides what he or she drinks.

I'm sure Gatorade or any other sponsor for the matter isn't thrilled with a player not using their product, but they knew that was always a possibility. Can't force a player to drink your beverage.

BCAA's are huge now (branched chain amino acids). Thats what biosteel is and all these other brands, players drink it a lot and is probably in some of the bottles

This is probably what I'd have. I've recommended it to people who play hockey and used to take gatorade, and that's all they take now.

Literally everything from water to pure corn syrup I'd imagine.

Every team I've ever played on (not hockey specific) has some health nuts who just do water, coconut water or some sort of sketchy kale shake. Then some Kyle Wellwoods who add extra sugar to their Mountain Dew and use everyone else's salt packets on their fries. And then all the guys in the middle drinking sports drinks, energy drinks, workout drinks and all sorts of mixtures they've perfected.

My rugby Lock use to drink chocolate protein powder and caffeine pills in Mug Rootbeer before, during and after games. Practices he went cheap and just drank the pop :shakehead

Protein powder before a game is the exact opposite of what you want.

Hypotonic or isotonic solutions with an electrolyte balancing component would be the right way to go for replacing fluid faster than plain water. Likely contain sugar, sucrose, glucose, or fructose polymers and these added sugars maintain blood sugar level and spare glycogen. This is necessary as glycogen is the primary fuel used in anaerobic activity and a main component of aerobic endurance activity.

Blood sugars maintained, efficient hydration and electrolyte balancing, and glycogen stores utilized where they need to be.

Are bottles checked for illegal PEDs in the substance before game?

Canadian Center for Ethics in Sports and Health Canada does preliminary checks for illegal substance that's known to their database.

However, those checks are not very comprehensive. You can easily have PEDs or illegal substances

One of the perennial contenders (won't mention who); pays me to extract tears from Chuck Norris, to water down the Gatorade.
