What's in those Gatorade bottles at the bench?

Crown Royal and lots of ice. Nature's way of telling you to put the biscuit in the basket because a basket is waiting for your biscuit at the bar.

The carbonation in soda helps to break down lactic acid build up.

I am pretty sure that any time you see a player spray himself in the face like we see goaltenders do from time to time it is plain old water in the bottle. There may be several different things available to each player.

lol they brag about all natural then they use coconut concentrate. They also use rebiana a sweetener, the only time coconut water needs sugar is when it's from old nuts that taste bad.
This product is bottom of the barrel stuff, magic cure all in a bottle

How hard would it be for a staffer to drug the other team's bottles? Maybe a mild undetectable sedative to slow the reflexes just a bit?

There's a TV script in there somewhere.

I imagine most players have one bottle with straight water and one bottle with an energy drink/mix of their choice.

It is was most athletes in team sports that last some time have once you get to a ~youth national/international level in my experience, and was influenced by trainers/nutritional staff.

Personally I have three bottles when I play in my sport... to be consumed at different time frames:

Evil, nasty, filled with rubbish energy drink: Half an hour or slightly more before the game.
Water: During play.
Diluted red Powerade: During intermissions, but I almost never finish the bottle.

I won a contest a few years back and got to train with the Islanders training staff before a game. They use their own blend of electrolytes and water.
