Dubas should've never gotten the job, he leveraged an interest from the avalanche and essentially strong armed his way to the gm job with the threat of leaving and bad on Shanahan for caving. kinda reminds me of what the young core did to Dubas with the threat of offer sheets. For anyone saying he won the Calder with the Marlies, just check the Marlies payroll compared to other teams, its not even close.

Would people actually be happy with a 2nd round exit ? There's even more pressure on these guys next year than there was this year. ECF appearance or he's gone. He should've been fired already but since he isn't, anything short of a ECF and he should be sacked.

They won't make the ECF without any significant changes so may as well save everyone the time and can him now then.

Matthews makes 2 AAV more than Kucherov.
Marner makes 2 AAV more than Stamkos.
Tavares makes the same as Point and Palat together.

What a joke.

The Lightning are trying to win.

Marner, Matthews, Tavares are all: Themselves > Team.

Dubas should not have gotten Tavares. It accelerated the rebuild and was a big factor in apparently overpaying RFAs, which I still dont understand.

What if I told you only the fans really care about winning ?

Would that explain the lassi faire attitude and actions of Dubas ?

Dubas paid his Marlies buddies Marner and Nylander top dollar. Surprise, Surprise.

The players were unhappy, maybe it was Babcock's fault. You bridge them all, Matthews included. And live on to negotiate better at a different time.

nothing changes without change. I don't trust Dubas to fix the problem he created, it's as simple as that. Oh and axe Shanahan too.........

I think there is an under 1% chance the Leafs get that far.

I think there is a 20% chance they barely make or miss the playoffs.

Firing Dubas isn't going to help this team. It would be to trigger a rebuild.

I don't think firing Dubas would hurt the team, mind you.

I don’t think it would trigger a rebuild. A retool for sure. Get the right GM who can trade Marner/Nylander/Matthews(whoever they fee needs to be traded) and possibly retool the team to keep them competitive.

Honestly, overpayments we're Dubas's only glaring mistakes. If you look at this roster it really should have made it to the conference finals. If JT isn't injured maybe it does. Maybe you could see a Marner choke job incoming, but a Matthews choke job as well? I don't think anyone could have foreseen both of them absolutely shitting the bed. If they both play just marginally better we're playing Winnipeg. I think our big 4 combined are about 4-5 Million overpaid. That could definitely bring in a nice secondary piece, but if JT is injured and Matthews and Marner choke it still probably doesn't matter.

How many gms inherit a 105 point team with star rfa's and loads of cap space?

How many of those gms have zero series wins (even missed the final 16 in 2020) after 3 years?

Out of those left, how many got to keep their job for a 4th season?

I have no clue how dubas still has a job as leafs gm.

It's because the Toronto Maple Leafs Country club doesn't really care about winning

A lot of good GMs get fired. For me, if Dubas starts messing things up, it is time for him to go. I don't missing on a signing. I mean really starts creating problems with the team.

I noticed this as well.

Dubas threatened to depart the leafs if he didn't get the gm position.

He gets his desired role but his two rfa's then threatened him with offer sheets to get what they wanted.

Dubas is learning that assembling a winning team is a much more difficult task when there is a salary cap involved.

What do you call inheriting a 105 point team and having no positive results after 3 years?

I think most would consider that "creating problems with the team".

Also, I hope you aren't insinuating that dubas is a good gm.

- I am not insinuating anything. He is a good GM.
- Yeah, we are still in the same boat ast that 105 point team though we have a division title now. We haven't won in the playoffs. I think we should have at least won one series in the 3 years this year really.
- I don't know about most, but many would think that is creating problems with the team;I don't.
