What's a Trigger for Dubas' pink slip ?

I voted 2 more chances because I see it as the most likely scenario. My preferred would be gone at the end upcoming season(unless we got to CF)..

At the same time who knows how long we'll be stuck with him. Until Matthews contract expires seems like the second most likely scenario (baring Cup win ).Weird options.

Would people actually be happy with a 2nd round exit ? There's even more pressure on these guys next year than there was this year. ECF appearance or he's gone. He should've been fired already but since he isn't, anything short of a ECF and he should be sacked.

I voted moving a core player. A bold move or two could possibly improve TOR's situation.

But honestly I don't know. I cannot believe no one was fired through that mess. Is Tavares going down in game 1 going to let them off the hook? It can't be.

Let's pray Tavares can still play high-level hockey. Looked like a carrier ender when it happened (I know nothing was broken, but a concussion after KO like that is no joke), also he might be hesitant to put his health on the line after something like that (getting hit, going to the crease, blocking shots etc).

Realistically, ownership hasn't been too handsy, so he'll probably get this year at the very least. But if the team fails in round 1 again this year, I think ownership gives him an ultimatum - make a core altering move or we'll find someone who will.

So if there was an "if he doesn't move a core player next offseason" option, I'd pick that.

It's not likely scenarios, it's what is your trigger.

My trigger and Leafs trigger are not the same. You might want to add your in the question.

Are we speculating what will eventually be the reason for his replacement or why I think he should be gone by now?

It's plain stupid sire. Nobody gittin fired after yet another let down f*** up season. Wow sire, wow. Not even our cool and intelligent powerplay coach malhotra :biglaugh: Even the hfboards coaches would do better, that tells-a-LOT sire. He played joe thornton on the first unit often, even the sharks didn't do that during their last 1.5 years. That's pure intelligence level there sire. Pure.

Fire a sucka already. Somebody. There's a load of good coaches available. One went to the broadway, big apple they say. We didn't even talk to that sucka. We that weak. We ain'ts no winnas, not yet. We have to move a body real soon. gittin new peeps in. PEEP GAME SIRE. I'm BOUT THAT.

Problem is, he'll then just comply, and not worry about return.

So if there was an "if he doesn't move a core player next offseason" option, I'd pick that.

It's a more likely scenario than a core trade this year

If we keep him next year after being eliminated in the 1st round we need to change the team name to Toronto Maple Dubas's

If he makes a 2nd round appearance his fanboys will point that we have progressed and become a better team than we were under Lou (ignoring it took 4 years lol).

If he gets to the 2nd round than in year 5 he should be expected to make the ECF at minimum ithwerwuse he's fired.

Dubas should be working on a yearly basis. He's not competent nor trust worthy enough to be given any benefit of doubt whatsoever.

IMO Leafs need at least a round 1 win this upcoming season, and if they go out in round two it better be a passionate seven game series.

If they beat a clunker team next year in round 1 and get swept round 2 we still suck

I'm tying Dubas pink slip directly to Mitch Marner. He should already be shown the door but if Mitchy turns in another dud next playoffs (should the Leafs make it) and they are bounced out again that should be that. Shanny right behind him too.

Trigger 1- fighting for a wildcard spot around Christmas
Trigger 2A- 1st round playoff loss, any circumstance
Trigger 2B- 2nd round playoff loss, M or M doesn't show up and he still refuses to trade them.

Under both 1 and 2A I'd want to see a Richards/Carter summer and a hard reset of the team.

Continued losing in the first round , which was of course the supposed trigger last year and the year before , I suppose we will continue to follow the same path with the same results while expecting a different outcome because we are clinically insane .This exact conversation was had on this board last year and the followers all agreed he was to be given one more chance while us non believers said fire him immediately , well here we are another year later with the same people claiming one more chance and the same people saying fire him now .

I mean, at the end of the day, it comes down to results, right?

Everyone has some sort of unique idea on what needs to be done. We have to add more of this attribute. We need to trade this player. We need to sign that player, and so on. People get worked up about it (probably too much lol - some of the hostility is wild)

At the end of the day, this team needs to advance past round 1. Whether we make a change to the big 4, a change to the support core (such as Rielly or Holl in the top 4), or just changing the supporting cast (bottom 6, bottom pairing) It's pointless to discuss Shanny, Dubas and/or Keefe being fired, as we know that's not happening right now.

So whatever they do this off-season, needs to good enough to get past round 1. Or they are likely all done.

I like that.

I've decided Dubas has permanently handcuffed the team with overpay contracts and must go now. It's not a winning formula and he's been mortgaging the future for many years.

That is what I imagine too. They may make the core move this offseason, but I think if the core fails again it pretty much comes down to move a core guy (by Dubas) or move Dubas and a core guy out.

The fact he is shipping draft picks to save his job, or on a fool hearty belief that the team he assembled is ready for the cup, is proof enough he must go and MLSE needs to take his hands away from the controls.

Leafs have slipped back into playoff exits and no draft pics at the draft table this is 80s era degeneration here. You can't make this stuff up.

I sure seems like an eternity hard to believe its only been three draft years and three playoff failures , the solution to our money woes is going to be very painful for most to watch but in the end it's the only way back out of this hole .
P.S. nobody will take Marners contract so he isn't going anywhere , JT doesn't have to go anywhere he doesn't choose even if some sucker came along to take his contract off our hands , that only leaves one 11+ million dollar deal that is moveable and probably only one team that will take it . Like I said too painful for most to accept .

He should already be fired but it looks like Shanny is AWOL on that right now so my triggers right now are.
Fire Keefe of be fired your self
Resign Thornton and you should be fired.
I’m short on time so that will be a nice start

I guess we'll need context. If there is effort, compete, a well rounded game, well coached and we lose a long series in the 2nd round, I might be able to live with that. But we will be going into year 6 with nothing to show so far. The expectation this year was to be in the semi final, for me personally I don't want to lower the bar.
