I went A-. Not a fan of the coach of the big 4 salary commitment but that has nothing to do with the deals the club made. I believe they erred in sticking with Kerfoot and Holl but I can see where they might have thought 5 forwards pushing the offense is already enough and Kerf's reduced role and minutes don't leave a big improvement opportunity.

The 9 D looks a bit silly unless they have a couple of regulars dealing with nagging injuries, like Rielly looks like his 2019-20 shadow and maybe Lilly or Brodie are carrying some damage. They don't want to need to roll Timmins against Tampa or Boston and Schenn is a 10 minute a night guy so 9 isn't really 9. They may really have only 6 healthy bodies to rely on.

Mainly bc I expected Dubas to grab another forward, namely Kane.

Dubas did well, not only did he added players but he is changing the style of the team as none of the players added beside Gus plays a up and down speed game but rather they all play a no nonsense physical defensive game with pace. But the big piece is ROR. He is just someone that will dominate in the playoffs when the going gets tough. He will be the nightmare to Point and Kuch.

Solid B+.

ROR, McCabe, and Sandin trades were B+, A, and A- respectively.

Engvall was an F. Schenn was a C.

ROR = A- good value rental, hopefully he can keep his game up
Schenn = A- big body tough, adrenaline kick
McCabe = A- we shall see how he does, seems aight
Acciari = B+ good playoff grit guy
Lafferty = D we have a few of these on the Marlies already
Gustafsson= D- unless he somehow shines dumping Sandin away was a waste
Engvall - D- Another strange dump of a home grown guy for no apparent reason

Overall B- or so, low 70s/100

Happy we were active, at least it's something. And we did get what amounts to be the first 2nd round pick from Boston. They are going to be a very tough out in the POffs though, so I'm not sure mortgaging so many futures and young roster players this year was a good move. Next year should've been our all-in season but we all know how it is in Toronto.

Maybe I'm being greedy but I think it was an imperative Dubas needed to add another legit top 6 winger.

Agreed with those questioning the Sandin trade now, it really does seem like some other deal didn't quite come to fruition. Overall a good deadline, but it still doesn't feel like enough to get over the hump.

He did ok.... Don't get the Sandin move. Sandin was the one defender on our existing roster who showed some grit regularly, I thought he'd be a good playoff guy. I know he had some rough moments in past playoffs but he was young, development isn't always smooth. I'm curious to see how these guys do on less off the rush systems.

Leafs have 46.5 million in 5 top 6 forwards. Yes you are being greedy. Time for our 11 million dollar players to earn their pay.

B+

Needed another skilled forward. That would make it an A.

A+ would be goalie depth AND another skilled forward.

I think I liked everything but the Sandin trade ... Didn't really understand that one

Also would have liked to get rid of Kerfoot

A top 6 who effectively would play on the 3rd line and feast. Right now that bottom 6 isn't going to cut it. 3.5m in Kerfoot there is a waste of cap space, there was room to maneuver. Would've loved Bertuzzi.

They only have 4 post deadline call-ups and whoever they call up will need to be sent down when Knies signs. It would be a waste
Knies signing can't take place until his team is done. I beleive the earliest for that is March 25 and the latest is April 8. In any event, it's basically 3-5 weeks away. There's no reason not to use that cap space to call up a Marlie until Knies is signed.

A-, overall Dubas did fantastic this deadline. Ideally he would have acquired a middle six winger for some scoring depth after Engvall was moved but it seems like they’re keeping a spot open for Knies.

Easily A
Without giving up our pool we got some good players
Ultimately it will still be up to core 4 if we want to go far
6 players rotation is no joke.

Not sure are people trolling or bc they read the Islanders forum and actually believe that Engvall is a young Clutterbuck. I just don’t understand why some are missing him by saying that trade is bad trade.

Look, they still have to win but if you are just talking about the deadline then I don't understand how ANYBODY could give him less than an A I mean let's Look at it.

IN

ROR
Noel Acciari
Jake McCabe at 2 million
Sam Lafferty
Luke Schenn
Erik Gustafason
2023 1ST

OUT
2023 1ST
2024 2ND
2023 3RD
2025 4TH
2025 protected 1st
2026 2nd
Rasmus Sandin
Joey Anderson
Pavel Googlev
Makhail Abrahmov

Now people are going to look at that and say he sold the farm to go all in but he didn't, not really

Not when you consider that the 2025 1st is top 10 protected, which means, if injury hits and things go to hell Chicago isn't getting the pick.

Not when you consider that ACQUIRED a 2023 1st, yes he traded a 2023 1st but he got one back so that cancels that out, and might have gotten a short term upgrade on Sandin, certainly not long term, long term Sandin will be better, baring injury he will be better in 2 years or less, However if you are talking about right now, TODAY Gustafason might be better TODAY.

Not when you consider he was able to add a top 6 forward, 2 bottom 6 forwards and 3 D men including a legitimate top 4, for 2 million dollars for 3 playoff runs and didn't include ANY of.

Knies
Minten
Niemla
Robertson
Amirov
Hirvonen

He gave up 3 truly valuable assets.

One is top 10 protected.

One was recouped

One is Sandin and long term baring injury that IS going to hurt.

Overall what we saw was a master class in trading

Yes Dubas needs to have playoff success to be extended I'm right there with you, AND he needs to extend Matthews.

But if you are just looking at this deadline, I don't understand how ANYBODY gives him less than an A.

A+ should have been an option

Now that its over. Dubby did his thang. We got Timmins, RoR, Mccabe, Lafferty, Acciari and Schenn. And Gustaffson And Zohorna. So what would yall give him the school grade. Now is your turn to do yo thang  playoffs is coming and we are going to twerk. Hard
No A+ option optionizle my nizzle?

A-

Apart from an upgrade on 2LW, dubas got everything we needed

This is imo, the second year straight of giving the team what they needed. Last year they couldn’t deliver, this year they have to

At minimal it's a D for Disappointing.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but this isn't good enough.

I'm sorry, but it just isn't.

There is no rhyme or reason to this madness. Dubas went bananas over the trade smorgasbord and brought back a little something for everyone. The result: a higgledy piggledy mess that resembles no signs of being pre-planned in any way.

Let lone thought about much at all.

Whatever is Dubas going to do with all those defensemen? Trading the wimpy Engvall for the one man wrecking crew Luke Schenn makes sense. If there weren't already eight other defensemen on the team.

It's a repeat of the 2021 deadline disaster all over again.

These guys are good players, sure. But not difference makers. Incremental improvements at the bottom of the roster isn't good enough.

Dubas needed to bring in the best players available. This he did not do. And for that reason he gets an F.

He FAILED.

B+

Addressed toughness, defensive forwards who are relentless puck hounds
Addressed Defense -> big body guys d-men
As long as core players show up that should suffice IMO

that said,

needed another scoring forward/winger so that we could ice one scoring winger with each of Matthews->ROR->Tavares. Would have given us solid top 9 and depth creating match up problems for opposition

Goalie situation IMO is still a hailmary but to be seen
