That guts the Leafs on the back end and trades their upcoming first which they would probably use to target a high priority dman. McDavid is good, but I think the value of what the Oilers would want to come back is beyond insanity.

The roster was gutted and an AHL calibre roster was put out there in 2015-16 intentionally. Looking at the results, hard to argue against it but they literally just destroyed the on ice team to get a #1 pick who is the "more marketable and popular player" compared to what they had with their old core group.
