I see that Quick has 2 Cup rings to Price's 0. I see that Quick's numbers improve in the playoffs, when it matters. Price's numbers decrease in the playoffs.

So, what makes Price better, other than playing in Montreal?
Get ready for a Price vs Quick poll. No unpopular opinions allowed here lol

Just gonna throw some teams.

If the Devils were to trade for Price:
Schneider + Palmieri/Henrique

Rangers
McDonagh + Zibanejad + Miller

Islanders
Tavares + Hamonic + Dal Colle

Penguins
Crosby + Murray

Sharks
Vlasic + Couture + Jones

Nashville
Josi + Rinne + Neal

Edmonton
McDavid

Florida
Ekblad + Barkov

theres some examples!

Those valuations are wildly different and horribly off base.

Kings have a better team in front of Quick and Price is the MVP of the league Quick not so much.:shakehead

I would want something around Crawford and Toews. But Montreal would have to add a lot more for Toews. (probably all of our team)

Yeah, doesn't make any sense. Price is too valuable.

Ok. Price is now 29 years old and fully developed. No way any team is going to parcel up anything near what Canadiens fans want.

You probably can't make the trade anyway until after this summer, since the Canadiens would want a package and not lose anyone to the expansion draft. So you're really getting a one year rental out of Price.

Maybe a scenario where Montreal misses the playoffs, Price blames Bergevin and Therrien, demands a trade. Montreal can either play him for the season and lose him to free agency or trade him to any team in the league.

That's a little more interesting and better to figure out value.

So, a better team is why Quick's numbers improve in the playoffs but Price's drop? Sorry, I don't buy that. Great goalies are better when it matters, and Price hasn't demonstrated that in the NHL.

By that logic, we should compare international stats, since the team they play for apperantly doesn't matter.

What do International stats have to do with the NHL? Yes, the team matters, but SV% shouldn't drop in the playoffs for an elite goalie. It's one of the knocks on MAF and was a huge issue for Turco. Why is Price exempt from the same judgement?

Is Quick exempt from sieving out in head to head competition against Price internationally, when it was price who has the better team?

You're two years late to the party with this argument

Where are these valuations coming from? What makes anyone think that these are accurate? What have goalies been going for, and is the difference between Price and those goalies as big as what is being suggested by some here? No team is going to dump multiple of their top players like some of these suggest when they can get some of the goalies that have been available at the real price they have been available for. Based on the value set by other goalies, Price has a far lower value than what some here suggest.

For all those being ludicrous...

SUBBAN only matched to get Weber.

Price is only going to get a slightly older starting goalie, and maybe a pick thrown in either side. Get out of this fantasy land of expecting a top-20 goalie, a top-3 forward, a first pairing D, and the farm of prospects.

Pre injury he gets a lot, after that injury to his knee which can be a killer for a goalie not the big haul. It is a big question mark for his future. He is one of the best goalies in the league, hard to say right now who is the best. He is not a guy you want to sign long term for huge bucks. That said after the PK trade there is no way the Habs trade another fan fav.

Again, what do international tournaments have to do with how these guys have performed in the NHL? And why would a team trade away significant assets for Price to dominate the Olympics but fail in the NHL playoffs?

Probably along the lines of

:edmonton

Carey Price
David Desharnais

:habs

Leon Draisaitl
Cam Talbot
1st 2017
1st 2018

Might be another prospect in there. And no, not Puljujarvi.

Something to note. The Schneider comparisons are disingenuous. Despite his stellar numbers, Schneider never once played a full season with the Canucks nor was he their definitive starter. Price, meanwhile, is not only the best player of his position, but arguably the best player in the entire league. A case can certainly be made one way or another. Nonetheless, goalies still do not carry the same value as other positions. You also have to factor perception. Subban, for example, isn't nearly the acclaimed defensemen HF makes him out to be. Do I think GMs who rank him outside the top five are stupid? Yes. But that will impact his value. A more positive perception-- one Carey Price has -- will have the opposite effect. All those factors is why I'd cite his value roughly in the middle of the HF divide. He's worth far more than "a 1st and maybe a prospect" but far less than "Pavelski + Vlasic + 1st"
