What to do with Russia and Belarus after they will be back?

Regarding other recent suspensions, Armenia was banned 2008-2010 and again 2010-2015 after having used ineligible players.
 
It's a funny thing being a hockey fan because this conflict affects our sport more than any other.

Regarding the OP I think it's too early to guess. I can say all politics aside regime change is the best for a speedy return. Without that it's impossible to guess how long the estrangement will last.
 
Let them play a potential world cup in 2024, just as in 1980 at the Olympics after they invaded Afghanistan

I'd love nothing more than to beat their asses on the ice again

If Putin stays in power, it better be minimum 5 years ban for Russia's ban from international ice hockey (one reason being that Putin times his antics during or after Olympics usually). Minimum 2 Olympic cycles skipped for Russians. Personally I want more than that. I feel sorry for the Russian hockey fans who don't support this war though.

Reminds me of the 5 year ban English soccer clubs were given in 1985 following the Heysel disaster. People thought that would be reduced after emotions cool down but it didn't. They were banned until 1990.

Hooliganism is serious but war is on another level.

I dont think we will see Russia in any international tournaments anytime soon tbh. Personally I think we should give them the full North Korea treatment until they get their shit together, which unfortunately doesn’t seem likely.

No russian want to be part of the coming teams. Gonna get booed for quite some time now. Will be enormous pressure to pay for the damages in Ukraine.

Quite sure that if the NHL players was sent home the war would end sooner. "The world is even sending home our beloved HOCKEY players!"

Wouldn't be all too surprised if the Russians came up with a hockey event including some of their NHL players this summer. The main problem being the lack of credible opponent other than Belarus or maybe Kazakhstan.

Putin and Lukashenka alone against them. Putin tends to score lots of goals and Lukashenka is actually a decent player for his age.

Corruption and poor population is the reason that Russian hockey has been a joke for many years, but last time when it mattered to them, they mocked you in shit so much that European referees were no longer involved in the Canada Cup tourniers because they were too objective. :laugh: And still it was coin flip

It didn't matter to them in 2010? you can be damn sure it mattered to them, and what happened? they didn't mock anyone in shit and certainly didn't mock Canada in shit, Russia had it's ass handed to them, it was a public execution of their hockey team for the world to see.

They didn't care in 2014 in sochi? Russia's olympics on home soil, sure.......it didn't matter. what happened there? who got mocked? not Canada, they had gold medals hanging around their necks right in your home barn.

you haven't mocked anyone in a long, long time and it certainly isn't because Russia hasn't cared or a population problem, you've been left in the dust and not just by Canada, but by quite a few countries.

Yeah, definitely the time to talk up Russia. After all, it's only... over 40 years since Russia won a best on best tournament and the country is currently a global pariah. I can see why looking back would be more pleasant than looking at the present or forward would be though, in hockey matters or otherwise.

Let's hope we get the chance to decide it on the ice in 2024. Russia should NOT be banned from the World Cup

Um... yes, let's hope so... you didn't get a point, it's obvious that in the year 24 Russia will suck against Canada as well as the whole last decade, I said that the reason for this is that the Russians don't train their really best players, their hockey system is corrupt and run by incompetent idiots, like the whole country. Also it's poor as dirt. Whereas Canada and European countries are doing everything for this. But when Russia really cares about such a thing as hockey, this happens

Couldn't you put together a team of NHLers and still make the semis at a minimum? Ovechkin still is elite for one

Do you really think that if that country hadn't collapsed, you would have just as easily dealt with the hypothetical USSR national team in 2010?


Those defeats are a consequence of what happened in '91, everything was destroyed, including the system of training players and coaches, an economic catastrophe broke out, the school was lost, but all this could be restored... if Russia was a normal country, but because of the chaos of the 90s, Putin came to power, and this became a verdict
