Whats this big need for cap space everyone thinks we need? According to cap friendly we have 14.567 million in cap space next year That is also including matt Greenes 2.5 million which according to the mayor is not going to be playing next year whether he retires or ltir. That would make 17 million ish for 8 roster spots plenty of cap to resign toffoli and Pearson and the rest of the team imo It also doesn't include whoever we lose to Vegas. Any cap issues people think we have is a little over blown things will be tight but can easily get done.

If Pearson and Toffoli get say a combined $9M, $8M isn't much to sign six players who can contribute.

I still think the Kings should be looking to move Martinez for an up and coming forward on an ELC.

Isn't the buyout 2/3rds.

It appears the Kings owe him about 15 million so if my math is correct a buyout would cost the Kings 10 million.

Whereas, if the Kings wait until after next season the buyout would be 10 and they get him off the books for 6.

I assume that is the path they will take.

The Kings can package Gaborik with Muzzin, or Martinez. That's what it will take for the Kings to get bad contracts off their books.

Next season can be dealt with. It's the one after. And the one after. Where Gaborik's buyout hit spikes, and could hinder adding to the team, were that the chosen route.

I think he will benefit more than any player from more offensively creative coaches. Also hopefully he benefits from a new PP strategy. So sick of seeing Doughty and Kopitar play catch until one of them decides to either shoot wide (Doughty) or throw a weak shot on goal (Kopitar). That is something we can atleast give Blake/Luc credit for, they realized how awful a job Paine did and moved on from him.

Kopitar's lack of net attack is disturbing. He's allergic to the net. That's all on him.

As for Doughty, I love his 10 minute slapper windup. You joke that Greene foot speed could be measured via sundial, but Doughty can also!

Gaborik should be spending time at Gary Robert's training facility. You can turn back time with diet and exercise and if you don't want to do both of those then maybe he can hang with Lance Armstrong.

NO they can't, neither has that kind of power. And they tried trading Gabby (in various ways) at the deadline.

Nobody is taking that term and years for an injury ridden aging forward whose play has slipped.

They best bet is a new coach. Gabby and Sutter were oil and water and it showed in a lot of ways.

New coach could change that.

I don't think there was a worse move that Lombardi made than re-signing Gaborik. Everyone knew what was going to happen. Even if he somehow scores 30 next season it doesn't make up for the last two of crap.

If Gabby scores 30 goals next season we'd be in a damn good place!
1- we'd be in the playoffs
2- likely means Kopitar had a huge bounce back season
3- whatever coach was hired allowed our offense to finally blossom

Sooooo I'm pretty sure it would make up for the last two crap seasons.

Gaborik hasn't scored 30+ goals since he netted 41 goals in 2011-12, back when he was 29.

He came close in 14-15 with 27 goals, but you need to look at how much he's aged, the injuries, and his steep drop in shooting percentage between then and now. He was shooting at over 15% when he netted 27 goals. In the past two seasons, his shooting percentage has been at 8%.

Hopefully a miracle happens, Gaborik stays healthy, and he can chip in with 25+ goals and 50+ points, but even that might be hopeful.

Right. No offense kings11, but 30 goals is never going to happen again. And if by chance it did, it would mean the whole team were injured and he became the only scoring option.

He's looked tentative and meek the last two seasons, and that is the last thing you want to see from a goalscorer.

30 goals isn't a place he can to anymore, tough for most players, only 26 in the entire league got there this year

If he plays in at least 60 games, (he is an injury magnet) with a new coach and motivated, he could 15.

DL tried to trade him, nobody wanted him. So unless he gets an LTIR type situation, and decides to retire, they are stuck with him.

If Voynov doesn't Voynov and Kopitar doesn't put in a career worst performance in '15, then this team is a contender just like in '14 with Gaborik's 27 goals.

The contract sucks but he went term to keep the cap down and the gang together. He dumps Richards like he should have and he probably could have given him a shorter contract with a higher cap hit.

He was just coming on in '16 until the knee-on-knee hit. Start this past season in IR and then comes back to a team where everyone except for a few guys put up **** numbers on a completely lost season.

Two things here:
-The contract is easily not the worst move DL made in his time here or, more accurately, since 2014.
-Gaborik is a prime bounce back candidate assuming a strong off-season and a more offensive game plan.

Ofcourse people have different opinions of DL's worst moves since 2014, there are so many to choose from.

I think keeping Richards was a step above everything. It showed poor player evaluation, poor roster management (Kopi and Carter at C), and a head in the sand attitude with the drug use. Hmm a player who has a long history of rumored substance issues suddenly goes from an all-star caliber player to Brad Chartrand, should have raised red flags.

Lucic is the second worst, and those two are a step above everything else. Just imagine if Lucic had accepted the 7 year offer that Dean threw at him, yikes.

Gaborik was strictly a product of the poor decision to keep Richards, if the Kings cut ties with Richards they can sign Gaborik to a 3/18 or 4/22 type deal and his contract is a non-issue.

I was actually replying to your suggestion that even if Gaborik scored 30 goals next season it wouldn't undo his previous 2 lousy seasons... Hence my comment...
