Knee surgery?

I also believe he may re-emerge with a new coach and system.
Buyout to costly. And, consider he was doing well in the Worlds
before the season and git hurt. If he comes back to the point health-wise,
as he was at the Worlds, coupled with a new coach and system,
maybe he will get back to 20 goals.

Deeshmrock - I like your point about Sam Gagner...seemed to underwhelm
everywhere, since his 8 point game. (was it 8 points?)
And Eaves? How the Hell did he go 12 years with only one 20 goal year in 2005-06
and score 32?? Is it the beard?

If Gaborik clears waivers and gets sent down to Ontario, I'm not sure that he'd report. At the very least I think it's safe to say he wouldn't play out all four years in the AHL rather than going to play in the KHL or take on an integral role for a Slovakian league team like his hometown club in Trencin, despite the fact there's not much money there. The country could sure use someone like him there helping to get their program back together. So in that scenario: he doesn't report, he gets suspended, and he's off the books, no?

The thing with playing Gaborik one more year is that we lose one more year of our core's prime. Also, no matter who is coaching this team, Gaborik is now 35 years old. The guy is not all of a sudden going to become a 20-30 goal scorer again. Further, even if he gets back to form, he has a long history with injuries and rarely plays the entire season.

The Kings can't wait until 2021 to let his contract expire. They should make an aggressive offer and trade him (unlikely) or just simply buy him out and deal with the $1.3MM dead cap hit.

A buy out of his contract saves the Kings close to $4 million, which can be used to fill four bottom 6 roster spots at $1MM a piece (guys like Brodzinksi, Dowd, Kempe etc.). We can also use that money, and other savings by dumping guys like Clifford and Lewis, to sign a game changing forward in the offseason.

Interesting idea, but its a little too risky. He might report to just collect a check. I am sure Gaborik would be happier getting bought out. He gets his money and can sign elsewhere.

Or he might get claimed and where it does help it also will get a rash of armchair GM's going off over how we gave him away for nothing.

Lol, no one is picking Gaborik off waivers. Why would they do that when they can get him in a trade and receive prospects and picks from us in exchange for taking on his cap hit?

Gaborik's off season workouts need to be monitored. Something is amiss when you fall off a cliff production wise. And by amiss I mean he's missing workouts to drink wine and drive fancy cars.

He has been injury prone for years. The last 2 years he has missed 54 games combined. More than likely he is just over the hill.

I want him gone. I want the days of the King's fascination with low-scoring forwards to be over. Gaborik has outlived his usefulness with us. A coaching change won't make him a better player, he is 35 for goodness sake; he's done. Best thing we can wish is he retires, buyout, or some other team crazy to want to trade for him.

Let's look at his past two seasons:

2016-
12 goals in 54 games. Goal every 4.5 games for an 18 goal pace over 82 games. Points pro-rate to 33 for the entire season.

2017-
10 goals in 56 games. Goal every 5.6 games for a 15 goal pace over 82 games. Points similar to the year prior.

These aren't great numbers, I know, except that 15 goals this season would of made him the 4th highest goal scorer on the team. As it stands, he finished 8th in only 56 games played.

In '16, his pro-rated 18 goals would of been 5th on the team. As it stands, he finished 7th in only 54 games.

Here is the real problem with Gaborik:

-Can't stay healthy. This is his M.O. though. Can't stress enough how badly everyone else screwed up in '15 to waste his 27 goal season.

-He's a *****. You want to talk about guys not liking playing for Sutter? Start with goal scoring primadonna Gaborik. Another team would have given him that contract if the Kings didn't. He came back here because it's awesome here! Win a Cup, the whole city loves the team, the beach etc. Tons of fun...when you're winning. When you are losing, have been in the league for 16 seasons and are playing for a ball buster who scratches you, well, you are going to float at times. He's never been confused with an Iginla, you know?

You keep him. Buyout is too painful when it spikes.

Two fluke injuries the past two seasons. This isn't the soft tissue stuff that has gotten him in the past but a knee-on-knee hit and then a broken foot from a puck in a meaningless pre-season tournament.

I think he can still flirt with 20+ if he can start the season fully healthy and these guys come out playing with the intensity I expect after all the changes that have been made. Much better option to try to get production out of a guy who would most likely be a Top 4-5 goal scorer on this team the past two seasons if he didn't get hurt.

Guy was supposedly done when DL traded for him. He's older now so maybe 27 goals isn't in him anymore but maybe 18-20 is.

Agree with those stats but his shooting percentage dropped like a rock in both seasons and did his ice time. I don't think he's a player who can produce playing 14 minutes a night-as many as Trevor Lewis. He needs top 6 minutes or you will get those numbers again. I think all the plugs on the Kings roster who Sutter was in love with had something to do with Gaborik's lack of production but almost the whole roster didn't produce so it's hard to say. Maybe something as simple as a new coach who the players like and want to play for will rebound some stats, unless Vegas surprises everybody and takes Gaborik us King fans are about to find out.

And what if the Coyotes will search for a nice big salary to go above their salary floor?

They had "bought" Pavel Dacyuk retirement contract. Also Chris Pronger is still under contract with them.
Plus they ahev so called RETAINED SALARY TRANSACTIONS: Martin Hanzal and Michael Stone.

All that ends after this season.

it's true, the yotes lose a huge chunk of payroll between those "players" since they all come off after this season, not mention doan is UFA and i'm not entirely sure they offer him a contract at this point. that said, they're now known for playing the salary cap game well, so maybe they give doan a fat contract and LTIR him or some other nonsense to make the floor

strange how they can be in such a position as far as negotiating trades while being a basement dweller.

Maybe but the difference with all those jokers is they were soaking up cap but the Coyotes don't have to pay them any real dollars. They'd have to pay Gaborik. A lot.

Whats this big need for cap space everyone thinks we need? According to cap friendly we have 14.567 million in cap space next year That is also including matt Greenes 2.5 million which according to the mayor is not going to be playing next year whether he retires or ltir. That would make 17 million ish for 8 roster spots plenty of cap to resign toffoli and Pearson and the rest of the team imo It also doesn't include whoever we lose to Vegas. Any cap issues people think we have is a little over blown things will be tight but can easily get done.
