The point is whatever nonsensical and poorly explained thing 94now wants it to be, guys. Come on.

Anyway, glad Henke seems to have turned it around.

How that is relevant to subject? Jagr scored more goals than Messier. So what?

Man I really question your thought process. You FREQUENTLY seem to just not get what's going on. But you present your thoughts with such vigor that one would assume you have put a lot of thought and evidence into your ideas. It's baffiling. And clearly everyone sees it the same exact way so wth is going on in your head, man? Seriously explain why you thought that was a good comment to make, please!

Sorry if you missed my post, where I (admittedly, it was in intentional) tried to change the topic from the Richter v. Lundqvist pissing matches that were going on in this thread, and instead just decided to bring to light a major organizational accomplishment that Henrik was about to achieve (wins record)....FromTheSide pointed out another one (shutouts record).

But since you insist...you know, it is possible to admire and love Mike Richter (as I do), and admire and love Henrik at the same time (as I do). Even if you don't think that Henrik has been the better goalie or you think that Henrik does not have what it takes to win it all like Mike did (both points I believe you would be in the minority), I don't understand why you vehemently deny how fantastic Henrik has been over the course of his career to this point. Claim that he cannot win a Stanley Cup, or that he isn't as good as Richter was - fine. But at least join us and celebrate what he has accomplished - seven consecutive 30 win seasons, never finishing less than 6th in Vezina voting (and being a finalist 5 times), the Vezina trophy, the Gold Medal, shutouts in game 6 and 7 against Washington last year, his unbelievable performance in game 6 against Ottawa in 2012...

I want this team to win a cup more than anything, but I'm definitely not a "cup-or-bust" fan...I've taken a ton of enjoyment and pride in watching these teams and players over the last few years. You should try it, it makes watching hockey a much better experience.

Confused by the entire thing.Enjoy all the goalies we have had that are awesome

I don't want to say and jinx things but it looks like he's getting back to it. SBOB said something (I believe it was him) that hank was still fighting pucks off a bit more, but other than that he looks like he's getting back to it.

sorry, what is the subject?

The subject was why Hank sucked for so long. His accomplishments that no one questions have nothing to add to the conversation.

My points were as follows:

1. Lundqvist has always been able to elevate his game above his average by putting a lot of effort into the process only he knows.
2. He intentionally reserved that "elevation" for February, assuming he would play his average at season onset.
3. instead of playing his average in Oct through Dec he played way below it.
4. If there were no Olympics he might have reconfigured his scheme. And that would have allowed the Rangers to enjoy somewhat better results at this point of their season.

You have no evidence for that claim. I can similarly make a claim with no evidence to refute what you just said, by saying that Henrik struggled early in the season because he was getting used to fatherhood and taking care of his infant daughter. Now that things have settled down at home, he's able to be a bit more relaxed and focused at work.

This is not a New York Times, but a message board. For those looking for factual material I'd suggest nhl.com
You speculation might be true, I wouldn't argue it other than saying that quiet fatherhood could be purchased easily. 24hour nurse is something Hank could afford.

Did he 'intentionally' withhold his best knowingly? Or is this some subconscious auto pilot phenomenon that took place? Because I don't think I've often seen someone do something on purpose and then look and sound so depressed, forlorn, frustrated and unhappy about it.

It couldn't possibly just make more sense that with a contract negotiation and the Olympics looming he put a lot of pressure on himself. When he struggled and lost some confidence, plus lost starts to this new kid, he may have felt his chances of starting in Sochi were in danger as well. It couldn't just be that he had a lot on his plate, had a rough start, got behind the eight ball, struggled to get out in front of it for a while but slowly worked his form and confidence back into shape? Especially as the team in front of him became, at least slightly, more cohesive, he got his contract extension settled and behind him and then got officially named to Sochi, putting him at ease about things that may have been weighing on him? There's a lot of better explanation than the one you've manufactured.

Perhaps he actually *GASP* put his newborn daughter as a priority over his work? Parenthood isn't some chore that you offload onto somebody else if you have enough money to do so. I'm sure Hank loves spending time with his family.

And I understand that this is a message board and we all like to speculate. But you can't expect to claim that the reason Henrik is struggling is because he intentionally took it easy until Olympics time, present that idea as fact, and expect to be taken seriously.

Did he 'intentionally' withhold his best knowingly? .
Being-at-his-best comes at huge cost to any pro athlete. Just think about what baseball players used to do, they harmed their health for it!
I don't know what Lundqvist does, as a fan I obviously want him to literally kill himself for my team with whatever, yet once I take my Ranger jersey off I realize it is a crazy thoughts. So to answer your question I'd say he withheld nothing. But he didn't force himself over the edge like he might have done at the time the desperate team needed it in Oct.-Nov.
In my opinion Biron retirement was a brilliant move by the Rangers. That and Sather giving up on contract helped us very much.

False, incl. last. I suggest we get back to this when facts are available. If Lundqvist comes back from Sochi w/o injury and Talbot will back him up in playoffs (not the other way), then you will have me eat the crow of your choice.

Hank's less than stellar play could have been attributed to one or more of the contract status, olympic pressure, new baby, new equipment regulations, or something else. For anyone to suggest he was intentionally dogging it or conserving energy or effort for later in the season is simply ludicrous imo. Most importantly, we've seen evidence the last couple weeks that he has the ability to get his game back to the level we've come to expect from him.

Honestly, what are you talking about...

Guys RELAX. Hes just getting a little lucky out there.

:sarcasm:

But seriously, he's ****ing owning right now, praying he's BACK!

Well, I was worried he would suck all season, but he's been playing almost well as he's ever played lately. I'm hoping he keeps it up and through the playoffs.

Is this one of those "I'm going to present a statement that makes no sense and expect an answer" questions?

If hank breaks another ranger record, so what? Gee, I don't know. So congratulations to him?

He's .934% in the 10 games he's played since the 9 day Christmas break. In the last 10 games before the break he was .871%. You're not likely to have 6% differences in save percentage per 10 games unless you play through some kind of injury.

Well, if he keeps playing the way he has played the past few games, I will gladly eat my words. Although, I do not want him plaiying 6 out of every 7 games. He'll get worn out again and this is not like years past. This year, they have a back-up who is very competent and has shown he can get the job done.
