I'm a former season ticket holder for the Thrashers and was active on the old Thrashers message board. I have the messages from my friend and another plugged in former Thrasher season ticket holder that has heard the same thing.
I understand the skepticism. I don't know how to prove it other than let me see...

I'm not comfortable sharing private conversations in DMs. I've been on here for years. I'm not lying. If you don't want to believe me, that's your choice and I get it. I'm just saying what I have been told by two credible sources.
Just out of curiosity, when you say you were active on "the old Thrashers message board," do you mean that was on THIS site or the old Smirkin' Chicken?

LOL. Last week, I checked to see if anyone had yet reclaimed The Chicken's old URL. Apparently, it's available! I can't wait to hopefully get the band back together! Ha!
IF it comes to fruition, then I'm definitely in. I wonder who all are still around? I have to think most of the original Nasty Nest is still around. I figure Grandma has to be LOOOOOOONG gone by now, no?

I have no reason not to. In my experience it is a very small world and someone is *bound* to have an inside track or know someone who does. Good luck to the city of Atlanta and congrats to you if this does pan out

I was on the official Thrashers message board back when NHL teams had official MBs. I was in character as the Hobgoblin most of the time. I stayed on there when the Winnipeg trolls came out of the woodwork to attack our fans and when they closed it down for good. I was over here after that.

As a new Atlanta NHL team becomes more likely, should this organization resurrect the Thrashers branding , colors, identity or forge ahead with something new?

As discussed in the Atlanta thread on the biz forum, there really isnt a better name/ mascot than the Thrashers.

Additionally, Millenials who will comprise a plurality of the Season Ticket base has strong nostalgia for The Thrashers and incorporating a modernized version of the team’s branding/jerseys / identity will do alot to galvanize support for the team

If for whatever reason The Thrashers name and identity cannot be leveraged here are some suggestions for potential team names

1. Olympics
2. 96’ers
3. Stags/Bucks (we have alot of deer)
4. Cutthroats (decent trout fishing in the Chattahoochee)
5. Terminus HC
6. Firebirds
7. Raptors (as in birds of prey)
8. Kudzu
9. Paladins
10. Gladiators (but in the Knights color scheme)
There really is only one

Fl-Ashers

Gotcha. Just curious because when you talked about the board, it got me to wondering how many fellow chickens made their way over here.

Anyway, like others have said, I have no reason to doubt you, but I am cautious by nature. That ,said, it wouldn't shock me if that's how it all plays out. I certainly expect the NHL to have at least a good idea of what's going on with the Coyotes, and then with expansion, by summer.

Who knew there's a new Atlanta NHL team?

How about the "Figments" -- of imagination?

As to the question: I have already been told by a friend that was on one of the local groups that tried to buy the Thrashers and keep them in Atlanta that the NHL has already approved expansion to Atlanta and the team name/logo will be the Thrashers.
And Ilya Kovalchuk will be the head coach

Do we think if the Jets will cede the Thrashers historical record and stats back to Atlanta?

Since they do not acknowledge their predecessors, I don't think this should be an issue?

Would be rad to have jersey retirements for Kovy, Hossa, Kozlov in the first year back

Would also hope we can claim Gucci Kane so he can finish his career with us in the expansion draft
