What should LA do at the deadline?

I saw somewhere someone mentioned Sondheim as a potential target. I REALLY LIKE that idea. The Flyers might have incentive to deal him before the deadline, or else lose him for nothing in FA.

In a perfect world, I would not trade any of the forward prospects, until they all had 2 weeks in the top 6...but this will never happen
and I understand why it cannot happen.
Any prospect that gets called up and plays bottom 6 exclusively....and 0 PP time, you don't know what their true upside may be.
Some of these prospects will never be top 6....but some are too hard to gauge and the only way would be to give them top 6 minutes
for about 8-10 games. JAD is a rare one, (only because of so many injuries) that is getting some line 1 time and showing he probably will never be a top 6 player.

Arty is a rare one, in that he could somehow score 10 goals, mostly from line 4....but he's got PP time. There's no doubt in my mind,
that he's legit top 6. Byfield will be top 6. But most of these players - Turcotte, Kupari, Andersson, Fagemo, Madden, you just don't know.
Thomas seems he cannot even do much in the AHL. Chromiak seems like such a talent, that he would only be a top 6 winger. Helenius,
definitely, bottom 6 only and that's a good thing. JAD looking like bottom 6. Vilardi should get a shot at RW1, RW2. And PP1 !!

Zadina over Hughes who was a dynamic star less than an hour away, still amazes me 4 years later. Detroit would be scary loaded in the future with Hughes and Seider. They have to be happy with Seider/Raymond duo but imagine having a third young stud.

If the Kings were interested in Zadina it would be for one of our own disappointments, maybe a change of scenery type swap, but I am not a big Zadina guy. If we trade prospects I’d rather get an established guy.

Bertuzzi would cost to much, and if the Kings do get in they could be looking at an opening round and a potential 2nd round matchup in Canada.

At this point think about the future, I think Blake's hand is fortunately forced away from trying to 'help' this year's squad.
The tough thing for Blake is that he has invested in this years team, he traded decent picks and invested cap space in players who will be 29/30 next year. He kind of has to supplement this squad to get return on that investment. Outside of Kaliyev, none of the future has shown any sort of star power, so the team may have to go for a big trade.

I don't really disagree, but what can he do? YOu can't replace what's missing in either quality OR quantity. We're missing our #1-5 dmen, our #2 goal scorer, our sparkplug, and a bunch of experience. I'm not sure what trade he could make that wouldn't be trouble.

Is it time to start looking at trading UFA's yet? Like Brown & AA?

Hahaha

At this point I’m not sure either guy plays again this season. Would be a sad finish to Brown’s career.

When it was just Arvidsson out, it made sense to go pick someone up. With nearly half the roster out, it’s likely in our best interest to let our prospects play top six minutes and see what happens.

I am totally with you on that point, there is not much you can do now, but when you shove your cards in you need to go for it. Prospects like Thomas/Vilardi/Madden are just seeing their value decline in the A, maybe you make a move for an early 20's star player before that value decreases more. I wasn't a big fan of the moves Blake made, but you have to play a current situation.

I agree 100%. I also didn’t like the abandoning the rebuild strategy this summer but now in March 2022 you have to accept it, and accept where the team is and act accordingly.

If the Kings miss the playoffs this year this goes down as a DISASTER season for a variety of reasons.

1. You bring in 3 veteran players in the offseason to make the playoffs. They all play great and you still miss.

2. You are in the playoffs at the 65 game mark and miss

3. You end up likely finishing 4th and fall in the black hole pick 15 range meaning you likely miss out on a high end prospect.

4. None of your four center prospects you used high picks on established themselves as legit NHL’ers. Only 1 could even stick in the league.

This would be a mirror image of some of the final Taylor black hole seasons.

That is why I think Rob does something in the next couple of days. It’s time to cash in/get to the lifeboats (depending on how you view the prospects) on a couple of these guys.

If we miss the playoffs because of legitimate injuries, it’s hard for me to call the season a failure. We wanted meaningful games in March. We wanted our prospects to play big roles down the stretch. Here we are. Time to see if Kopitar and Doughty can lead this team when games actually matter.

If the injuries are long term and they miss the playoffs no way this season is a failure. The starting top 4 on defense are gone, plus 4 forwards. Losing your top 4 on defense will cripple any team.

It’s incredibly unfortunate but not a failure.

Moving Thomas/Fagemo/Madden I would understand

It is not very smart to cash in/get to the lifeboats when prospects value is low.

This is exactly what Blake should not do.

We just need to ride out this season. No pickups at TDL. Bring up players from ONT and let them get an extended taste of NHL. Not enough to set back their development, but enough to let them see what they need to work on. Bring up Frk and see if we can actually score a PPG again.

I think a lot depends on how long Arvy and Roy are out. Doughty seems like he will be back this week, it seems...if he could practice the other day, but not ready for last night. If they know DD, Roy and Arvy are back this week, the Kings may be able to get back to winning ways - but if Kopi, Kempe and Iafallo are not producing anything, they're doomed. Quick and Petersen must be at their best as well.

Buyers at the TDL usually overpay, so would not do that. Chychrun is now injured. I would want Bertuzzi or Forsberg, but at what cost? Forsberg would have to be extended and not a rental. Konecny might be ok as well. I would have no problem moving Iafallo. That 4 million would help offset a 6-8 million upgrade. To me, Trevor Moore has somewhat made AI expendable, coupled with AI falling off his last 46 games, production-wise. 17 pts last 46 games is bad, considering most of his minutes have been line 1 and he's gotten lots of PP minutes.

AI has always been streaky. I 100% agree with your take, but I can't see management moving AI. They love him like a rock

No rentals or band-aids. Legit scoring winger and/or offensive left shot defenseman. I'm not opposed to making a move, but doing so must be done with fitting the team long term. Nobody over 30 or quickly approaching it. Either at this deadline or offseason some of the massive amounts of pieces the Kings have must be moved to bring in a big piece

I tend to disagree BECAUSE of your last sentence.

They still have Kopitar, Kempe, Danault, Moore. Kopitar's sudden decline is one of the reasons. The forwards missing aren't particularly high-impact.

The defense is small and soft and inexperienced, so if we're losing games i5-4 and 4-3 then I can take it. But the lack of veteran leadership is MUCH more visible an issue right now than injuries. I would consider it a colossal failure if Kopitar and Kempe in particular don't do anything from here on out and we freefall. Doughty of course is the wildcard, he should return and start to stabilize the D.
