The fact that the goaltending is almost always dog shitt even when win they have to pull it out of their ass because theirgoaltending sucks.

Even last night, sure they won but 2 goals on the first 7 shots.

9 goals on the last 70 shots that's not good enough It's simply not

That and the fact that for some reason they can't score more than 3 goals in a game

That second goal was heavily screened, I don't know how it even got through (hint: it shouldn't have gotten through). I will say that this goalie is not good at stopping pucks he doesn't see leave the stick even if its path is otherwise visible. Still you're not wrong, there were several more near misses by Vancouver that could have easily gone in. It's tough to win with this goalie without luck and/or poor execution by the opponent.

What pisses me off about our team?

Too many games we literally do not show up in the first period. At all. This usually leads to one of two things:

1) We get our asses kicked and just flat out give up, for the rest of the game. You may as well turn it off after 20.

2) We look terrible but the other team doesn't run up the score on us. Maybe we show up for the second period.

I'm not sure the reason why. No faith in the goalie, so why bother trying? Playing injured? Conserving energy for a late game comeback? Dressing room drama? The home crowd hasn't made a sound in 7 decades?

I don't care If it was screened, I might be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if he was good.

But he's not so I'm not, you have to earn the benefit of the doubt and he hasn't.

When he stops playing like shit he will get the benefit of the doubt until that time he sucks

Playing Marner 25 minutes a night in the playoffs.

Marner isn't the reason he has a bad playoff reputation. Keefe is. Keefe ensures Marner has nothing left in the tank.

4th year in a row I'm saying take him off the PK. How is Marner touching 24 mins a night when we have Nylander and JT on the same team. Tavares was under 19 a game last playoffs  Our best technical player isn't at 20-21 minutes a night when we need the gud pros to grind out a series win, but our least athletic superstar is at 23.

Dubas should have been fires before this

We can and we will. Of course you can but dont complain afterwards when you put half your payroll into 4 players. Especially when yiu are weak in net and have no number 1 dman. No money for the bottom six just look at the bargain bin every year.

Trading numerous draft picks and getting nothing in return. Trading draft picks to correct your mistakes. Drafting 5’9” players instead of a few players with some bite. Especially on defense. Shneider and ghule come to mind.

Letting willy sit out fir three months then signing him so that he got all his money and didnt lose a penny. Then saying to willy as long as i am GM you wint be traded. I dont care if you are the best on the team if another GM makes you an offer that makes the team better you take it.

Ever since Dubas took over we have never had a number 1 goalie or defenseman.

He should be fired for the goaltending fiasco this year. He traded fir a goalie who hasnt been healthy in 3/4 years. He signed a goalie who couldnt make it as a backup in Washington. Yes samsanov is doing ok but he was still an unknown.
I would like to know what the backup plan was if this didn’t work out.
History with mrazek should have entered his mind. Another goalie with injury history that we had to give someone a first round pick to get out of. Look at what we had to di. We were at 50 contracts. Why! He has signed some players to ELC that will never make the big team. Murray was a poor decision with his history, and because of Dubas poor decision making we had to play an AHL goalie and sign another SHL goalie to play in the big league

The problem with Dubas is he isnt likeable because he always thinks he is right and believes he is the smartest guy in the room

Marners playoff minutes should get Keefe thrown in jail.

Patty Kane has never even seen those minutes

Get Marners minutes down to 20-21 in the playoffs and I guarantee you the points rack up. Game log will be like 2-2-4-2 sweep.

Let me re-state John Tavares is on this team. You want/need this guy in the 20s for the playoffs there is no need to overkill Marner.

Can we get a new coach already.

Things that have annoyed me during the Dubas tenure:

1. Bringing in vets that don't even play the style of game the Leafs play and watch them cost the Leafs every time. Foglino and Thornton among others were decent vets but they were too slow to play the game the Leafs did.

2. Trading Kadri for Barrie. Sure the media was pissed at Kadri but you literally gave away your advantage against any team being able to have Matthews or Tavares or Kadri on the whole game. Trading away heart-and-soul core players like Kadri that never wanted to leave is bad karma waiting to happen. And for what? some poor man's version of Rielly now in Edmonton and the most vanilla player I've ever seen in Kerfoot?

3. Not signing Marner to a deal before he played his first season with JT. They literally promised JT that he would have Marner as his winger. Why make that promise? Because everyone knew those two together would be lights out and they were. IIRC it was reported Marner would've signed an 8 year $72 million deal ($9mill/year) prior to that season starting. That lack of foresight to not get a deal done prior to that season starting led to Marner putting up 90+ points and signing for $10+ million that offseason. Those little cap savings add up quickly.

It’s interesting you point out those 4 players.

Last season Engvall had some really good chemistry with Mikheyev. This year he has chemistry with no one so far. He’s gone from an acceptable 3rd liner to looking totally out of place.

Jarnkrok hasn’t found chemistry with anyone either.

Robertson looked amazing in pre-season and the one game away from Tavares. He looks like a different player when he can plays the rush game and he is the go to shooter on a line.

Sometimes it’s about the overall sum of the parts and not the individuals. These guys are out of sync and don’t have chemistry with one another. Im not deflecting responsibility from the players but Keefe really isn’t deploying these players properly to get the most out of them and the lines are totally messed up.

That's fair, I agree that they may not be deployed properly. I actually love Robertson because the kid does play with some fire...I just pulled tonight's lineup for my critique and kind of went off because yeah, it does actually piss me off lol.

My broader point though is that we all know what the team needs and instead of targeting that this off-season,
our most impactful move was Calle Jarnkrok...who's a fine player that is currently invisible, but the fact that Dubas saw him as the missing piece' is insane.

I know the response to this might be 'Dubas tried that with Ritchie and Foligno'...but it was well known that Ritchie was lazy and Foligno was getting up there. Better players than that have moved in the past few seasons and we're never anywhere near it or we're on the wrong side of it (Hyman, Kadri, Marchment). Also, Ritchie and Foligno also were bare minimum efforts that took no imagination (free agent and rental). It's like upper management haven't challenged themselves with thinking about what this team really needs to be a winner; they figured it out five years ago and that's that.

That 19-20 Leaf team was very unlikeable too

- Looked terrible before Babcock was fired
- Kaskisuo had his NHL debut in net and we left him out to dry against the pens, lost 6-1 with the only goal from Spezza (who else)
- Lost to a f***ing zamboni driver
- inconsistent efforts
For sure but I find my dislike then was more because of the coach. Now I like maybe a handful of players and that’s it.

I have every belief though that they’ll win me back.

For me, the players are all so hateable. They’re soft, consistently inconsistent, never start on time, don’t purposefully forecheck, play Engvall, and their core are ballerinas more interested in fancy skating on the edges than driving offence and being tough to play against.

There’s actually not a single player on this team I can definitively say I like, including Matthews, and it’s kind of a drag to only cheer for the crest while hating the entire team of players. I like Simmonds and Gio the best if I had to pick but it sucks they’re not the players of a few years ago.

I miss Hyman, and the days of Tucker, Roberts, Yushkevich. I’m holding out hope for Knies because he’s unlike anything we have but I’m sure that once he gets to the team and is around this core of babies that he’ll become soft and have a lack of dedication and winning mentality too.
Knies, Minten, Douglas and Tverberg are all physical power forwards. If all 4 reach their potential, it will go a long way for us. Hirvonen is a pest also, like a Bunting.

We really need some physical 2 way D men in the system though. We don't have a potential Muzzin type coming up. Unless Kral and Villeneuve develop more of a mean streak.

Chose Simmonds at 1.5m over Perry at 750K who Kypreos said "begged the Leafs to sign him".

Paid more for a broken down Foligno when Bennett was there for the taking.

Bennett + 6th (2 seconds)
Foligno (1st + 2 4ths)
  • 2021-Apr-11 Traded from Columbus Blue Jackets to San Jose Sharks for round 1 pick in the 2021 draft (Corson Ceulemans) and round 4 pick in the 2022 draft (Dennis Hildeby)
  • 2021-Apr-11 Traded from San Jose Sharks to Toronto Maple Leafs for round 4 pick in the 2021 draft (Ethan Cardwell)
Marchment for Malgin.

Small mistakes that keep adding up and today Jordie Benn is out toughest player.

The misuse of this guy. It's tragic really.

Now that people are bringing up the Sens, Dubas has basically built his team to mimic the Sens from the late 90's. They had all kinds of talent and good regular season success. Then they had to face to Toronto in the playoffs and lost every time.

Toronto (lead by Pat Quinn) had a lot of toughness and a will to win in the playoffs. They skated hard, they blocked shots, checked hard, won puck battles, punched you in the face, etc. It wasn't just the toughness. They had skilled players too.

I'm afraid all this time Dubas has had in Toronto his only achievement will be a Calder Cup with the Marlies.

We have some of the most passionate fans and few of them seem to be in the building?

From the fans -- the over analysis of everything Leafs; reading into something that really isn't there or necessarily true.

Crappy media that would sabotage this team for a buck.

The overly corporate image. Although that's the entire league, to be fair.

Joe Bowan and Jim Ralph's aren't the PbyP guys for the TV network. Seriously, why do we have to endure these dry, lifeless, insipid twats that do the PbyP for Sportsnet and TSN? Nobody wants them.

We aren’t as soft as we used to be, but we’re still not gritty/sandpaper enough. Also, it drives me nuts when they play disinterested and uninspired. What the hell have they won? It might be forgivable if they had won 2 or 3 Cups in a row. But ffs, they’ve gone out in the first round with this core what, 5 years in a row? And will anyone ever be able to forget how we folded in dramatic fashion against the Habs?

As far as I’m concerned, it’s not a good idea to get rid of Dubas and Shanahan now, as well as shaking up the core (hello Mitch Marner). And the only way I would be okay with keeping them, for at least one more season, is if we won at least 3 rounds. Anything less, BIG changes need to occur.

My first would be to bring in Trotz, and let him know he would be moving into management when he felt he was ready (and therefore he would play a big part in who the GM would be until then). My next move, and hopefully Trotz’s as well, would be to trade Marner for a top 4 dman and a top 6 forward who could also PK (I have no idea if more players or some draft picks would have to be included).

Shannaplan is based on the Red Wings teams he played on, the difference is those teams had a soul, they had a conscience, this team has nothing of that.
Which is really baffling to me in the fact that he wouldn’t want to build the Leafs the same way.
