the only thing seperating this team from a top 2 Atlantic team is any sort of 5 on 5 offense.
the forwards are all horrible 5 on 5. i think its just the gameplan of gaining possension and waiting for the perfect pass in the Ozone. At a certian point just do the net drive and throw pucks into the slot method.

Like, how long have we been complaining about them not starting on time? Or playing down to the opponents level? Or not putting in consistent 60 minute efforts?
Um, these were problems in the Pat Quinn era,, AND the JFJ era, AND the Burke era, AND the Nonis era... It's not related to any specific group of players; it seems to be a Toronto thing.

That's part of it too. The most vocal leader on the Leafs is Wayne Simmonds... Who is mostly scratched.

Yup, there are probably lots of reasonable answers (accordiing to you)...And that is what matter most when looked at and summed up after responses.

For me: We are too soft all arround: and ya ya some fans tend to think that the "forward motion thinking and stacking those chips will work,...eventually)

WRONGO!

Our team can only create a momentem swing (Which is totally important) But,...we can only create one when we score.

There are way more aspects to the game, and when we get pinned in our end and no one hits,..or they just do a drive by,.,..it shows our weakness, and proves one of our weaknesses. The opposition shows no fear against us. Can you blame them? Nom,,it's our lack of effort and guts that are to blame and it carries on and throughout our line-up.

Yup we need to add gritty players that cover up our finesse players that want no part of of playing griity!

We need a shake up and new direction unfortunatley. (lets not blame it on goalies,...the players up front give too much white ice because "WE THE GREATEST POND HOCKEY TEAM THAT COULD PLAY WITHOUT BOARDS"

Teams around us that are up-coming have added tons of grit so,..there is also that.

IT is time to give up 1 of our top 4. Marner still makes so ego headed passes, Morgan does too and looks more like a forward.

WE are desperate,..I am desperate. Dubas should be desperate ( and has never made a ballsy big trade)

Guts before glory is all I'm asking. GLG!

throw out some ideas, likes or dislikes, remedies....bandaids..ect...
Hmmm!, for me about half the fan base, other than that they need to tighten up in their own end, and make smarter passes.

Barracuda!
Such a great band

For me the most annoying thing is come playoff time, they get bullied physically. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the size, but it drives me crazy when they just get beat up and and don't fight back, especially against Boston. And I'm a guy who loves skill hockey, sometimes you gotta show you have nuts.

Yeah I don't think size is a replacement for courage and guts, but I'd rather the organization go out and look for size and guts instead of pretending that it isn't a factor and just have a more thoughtful mix.

- Keefe’s complete lack of understanding on how to utilize his players strengths is the big one. He doesn’t formulate good lines.

- The players have no chemistry. So skilled and no chemistry.

- The players seem unmotivated (at times) and seem discouraged with the lines they are on. Players also have to have the intelligence to give their input on lines. Tavares especially needs to step up and give feedback. Figure it out together as a group.

- The players don’t stand up for one another. Some do (Gio and Bunts) but some dont. It doesn’t seem like it’s due or die for them it seems like they go through the motions and get by on skill.

- I’m unsure of the players attitudes but with social media and all of this there seems to be some fan resentment slipping into the psyche of the players judging by the language of players like Marner talking about people putting “shambles” in their brain. Hopefully this is not a big issue but it definitely is a thing.

That we are capable of beating Carolina and Boston in regulation back to back, but lose to San Jose, Anaheim and Arizona

The lack of accountability.

Star players fail in the playoffs, no worries! The GM won't call you out, in fact he'll get right into the media and defend you, he'll even call criticism of you "idiotic".

It's never anybody's fault, it's always just the unfortunate circumstances and bad luck.
I'll have to agree with this.
This, and the usual late starts, specially in games that really matter. Frustrating as hell.

What pisses me off that is that the NHL uses this team as a piggy bank yet has the audacity to poke fun at its fans. It pisses me off that two soulless corporations own half this team. It pisses me off that the two corporations that own the team also have an army of jock sniffing media trolls create a volatile environment in which players are destined to fail. It pisses me off that MLSE has so little self respect that they bend over backwards to be milked dry by Gary Bettman and his stooges.

This team desperately needs an us vs the world mentality but our management is too busy 'trying to do right by players' and building 'partnerships' across the league. What a f***ing joke.

So many things. They’re the easiest Leaf team to dislike that I can recall.
That 19-20 Leaf team was very unlikeable too

- Looked terrible before Babcock was fired
- Kaskisuo had his NHL debut in net and we left him out to dry against the pens, lost 6-1 with the only goal from Spezza (who else)
- Lost to a f***ing zamboni driver
- inconsistent efforts

1. a. holl playing

1 b. marner/his daddy running the show.

1 c. the entire front office is soft and is friends with the big 4.

For me, the players are all so hateable. They’re soft, consistently inconsistent, never start on time, don’t purposefully forecheck, play Engvall, and their core are ballerinas more interested in fancy skating on the edges than driving offence and being tough to play against.

There’s actually not a single player on this team I can definitively say I like, including Matthews, and it’s kind of a drag to only cheer for the crest while hating the entire team of players. I like Simmonds and Gio the best if I had to pick but it sucks they’re not the players of a few years ago.

I miss Hyman, and the days of Tucker, Roberts, Yushkevich. I’m holding out hope for Knies because he’s unlike anything we have but I’m sure that once he gets to the team and is around this core of babies that he’ll become soft and have a lack of dedication and winning mentality too.
how could you not mention holl?

whens the last time we had a true power forward that could play in the top 6 or number 1 dman? like really truly?

oh i gaurentee you guys that if AM Leaves the management will let him walk and get nothing for him, MM too. Just wait.

inconsistent effort every game/period.

Drafting.

We draft the exact same type of players and our roster consistently ends up with the exact same issues because of flawed roster composition.

It’s time to start drafting some bigger more defensively-responsible defencemen.

Being a fan, nothing about the Leafs pisses me off. Disappointed at times, but pissed off, nah.

Nothing really bothers me about the Leafs. They're one of the better teams in the National Hockey League , and I enjoy watching them.

To be honest, its the constant carping over this and that that I find tiresome. I can't be bothered to read most of what's written here. I just skip over most of it. The rest i find unpersuasive.

I noticed the World Series champion Houston Astros just let their General Manager James Click go, and gave their manager Dusty Baker a one-year contract renewal. It makes me think some Leafs' fans might want the Leafs to do the same if ever they had the sane success. The constant criticisms will never stop.

I gotta go With Dubas. He’s fine he’s just building a team for 2030 or some time in the future when the physicality has been more erased from the league. He had his vision and he has stuck to it but the time is not right for his vision.

We don’t need to go back in time and build a team of muscle but clearly the league is in a transition period and it needs some of both and Dubas has refused to budge from his stance. Because of his decisions all the other things that I don’t like about the current team exist.

I grew up on the Dougie And Wendel leafs and the the Mats and Roberts teams. Both were surrounded by a bunch of likable warriors.

The top end talent is fine but the bottom 6 and bottom pairing he continues to fill with vanilla players.

All of the above and Mitch has worn out his welcome for me. Mostly completed with his comments after Keefe’s statement earlier this year.

It pisses me off that Dubas is the only one who can't see that running back the same gutless team year after year is dumb. They have two players that will go to war at this point, Bunting and Giordano...

Targetting a player like f***ing Jarnkrok in FA this year while keeping Kerfoot is a perfect representation of this problem. Engvall seemed like he might have been growing a backbone last year but he's part of the problem...

Bunting — Matthews — Nylander

Kerfoot — Tavares — Marner

Robertson — Engvall — Jarnkrok

Aston-Reese — Kampf — Malgin

The bolded add absolutely nothing to this team...Robertson gets a pass because of his age and potential but the others are losers. Bunting should be moved down a line or two, Marner should be traded for a top four and a top 6 with drive and determination. Bolded should be replaced with players who have heart.

It’s interesting you point out those 4 players.

Last season Engvall had some really good chemistry with Mikheyev. This year he has chemistry with no one so far. He’s gone from an acceptable 3rd liner to looking totally out of place.

Jarnkrok hasn’t found chemistry with anyone either.

Robertson looked amazing in pre-season and the one game away from Tavares. He looks like a different player when he can plays the rush game and he is the go to shooter on a line.

Sometimes it’s about the overall sum of the parts and not the individuals. These guys are out of sync and don’t have chemistry with one another. Im not deflecting responsibility from the players but Keefe really isn’t deploying these players properly to get the most out of them and the lines are totally messed up.
