4 stents about 18 months ago. I have to take a handful of various drugs every morning and even then it took awhile to bounce back. Just 4 months before the heart blew up I had to have reconstructive spinal surgery, and I also needed a hip replacement, obviously the hip is on hold for now, but I don't think I'll have it done. I have difficulty walking and can no longer skate, but I still get out on my mountain hybrid bike. Oh and bummer I can't drink alcohol anymore, it doesn't react very well with one of the medications. Cannabis however is fine, even though I rarely puff anymore. Just have to keep getting high on life, music and the possibility of a SC I suppose, hopefully the boys can get it done.

so what is the best band you seen in a bar? I will go with April wine, seen them quite a few times
Can’t go wrong with that ...
I will have to go with The Hip ...the experience with the diverse crowd , in terms of ages and tastes and everyone’s having a great time and the music and the size of the small venue ..

Yea, saw the Hip at Pub Flamingo in Halifax way back in late eighties, blew me away. The bartender got up and sang between Hip sets, she had an amazing voice, her name was Sarah and I thought at the time she may go big one day. About a year later I realized Sarah was Sarah Mclaughlin.

I know jazz isn't everyone's cup of tea but put on the cans and try this out

When Miles got these guys together to make this album(Kind of Blue)all he brought with him were some sketches he'd done and displayed them around the studio, he gave the musicians some basic instructions oh what he wanted for each song that was recorded for the album, such as key and the direct requirements, such as “a series of five scales, each played as long as the soloist wishes”

The bass(Paul Chambers) goes through some variations on the intro of the album version, after that a simple blues that's just as steady as rain
John Coltrane takes the first Sax solo
Wynton Kelly Piano solo (Wynton Marsalis is named for him)
Jimmy Cobb is the metronome behind the drum kit

Paul Chambers + Jimmy Cobb for my money is the best rhythm section in jazz history, Wynton Kelly and Jimmy Cobb have some serious chemistry too. I've always preferred the earlier iteration of that quintet with Red Garland on piano and Philly Joe on drums, but Kind of Blue is a legendary album for a reason.

My son is a drummer and a pretty good one at that, he grew up on this stuff and it has become a part of his dna. His high school jazz band won back to back golds for eastern Canada, an adjudicator who was grading him said he was like a "metronome with feel," for his performance on Quad City Stomp.

That's awesome man.
Always makes me happy to see anyone into jazz, sadly the scene in Toronto is slowly dying. These days I'm more focused on pop music but anytime I sit at the piano I end up noodling some sort of jazz lol. Sucks not being able to get together with my buddies and play a session with Covid going on.
Maybe we can set up a jam session next time I'm out east haha

Wouldn’t necessarily call it jazz, but I do love hearing this guy “noodle” the keys........I wish my brother George was here.........
