I sat 2nd row behind one of the goals for a knights rangers game this season. Instead of the blue crew cleaning the ice during timeouts it was basically a group of young women dressed for the part. Lets just say I kind of looked forward to the breaks.

I mean, up close, I’d enjoy the show as well. I should rephrase to - I think ice girls are tacky and as an O6 team off brand. I have no problem looking at them. I just don’t want our own.

Give me a goal horn that is a horn and not a recording.

Also, bring exits/emergency exits up to code.

What we really need is an entirely new arena, but that is not happening in this lifetime.

That's when you get the travesty that is New Yankee Stadium. The bridge was bad enough but you can still pry this arena from my cold dead hands

It's coming up to about 10 years since they completed the renovations of MSG. I still remember the not so old Garden, with the purple and teal seats (too young to remember the rainbow seats and no suite boxes on the 7th Ave side), and it definitely was a nice upgrade, but I feel like a lot of things were missed. I noticed they added LED lights to the columns in the suite boxes between the 100 and 200 sections (lower and upper bowl). Here is my list of things they would update.
  • Add more tables and/or wall/shelf tables around the arena so you can eat in the concourse.
  • Louder buzzer and ref/Toronto horn. From the 200's you can barely hear the buzzer/horn.
  • Redo the exterior of MSG. Not sure if it's possible, but add more windows and glass, with more LED screens. Especially the side that faces 8th Ave. The brown stone exterior is very dated and no longer fits in with Hudson Yard a few blocks away.
  • Additional LED ribbons along the bridge. This was hinted at during the drawings before the bridge was built.View attachment 549609
  • Repaint the ceiling. It's starting to show it's age and is pretty dirty.
  • Better team store with a larger selection of memorabilia. Sadly the Islanders have a really nice team store at UBS.
  • Acknowledgement of season ticket holders for both NYR and NYK. Would be cool if they put your name with the team logo, even if it was on a sticker on your seat(s).
What else would you like to see updated/upgraded at MSG?

A small waternozzle mounted under every seat, and you as a fan can buy access to a specific nozzle through an app while at the game, and give the visiting fan a wet bum at a moment of your choosing. Lets say $2 pr 1 second spray that gets donated to a charity.

Banners honoring people like Frank Boucher, Bill and Bun Cook, Lester Patrick and Emile Francis. Phish gets one for a 13 show stand but not heroes of the past who didn’t go decades without a Stanley Cup?

This. Frank Boucher. Bill Cook. Bun Cook. Lester Patrick. Emile Francis. Phish.

The need to fix the acoustics, when the renovation was done everyone would talk about this non stop now it's so overlooked. The old MSG would shake you in your seat the new one is quiet as hell

Rangers supporters voices got softer.

I don’t think a fire truck horn would be loud enough, hence it being a recording. They’d have to switch to a locomotive or ship horn to fill the arena.
Wasn't it supposed to be a fire truck horn after 9/11?

Fix the ice, figure it out.

For starters, if both the Knicks and Rangers play the same day at the garden, always have the Rangers be the first game, or push the Rangers to an 8:00 PM start.
They will never be able to address this unless they can relocate the ice plant closer to the rink and control humidity better. I believe the distance of piping for the ice sheet to the plant is one of if not the longest in the league.

Wonder where the ice plant is. Is it on the 8th Ave side above the Theater faux-marquis?

I really wish I could get a good 3 hours to explore MSG with full access. I’d love to see where Dolan sits and what it’s like where Ray Castoldi (organist) performs. Would love to see the catwalks above the ceiling. I’ve already been in the Rangers locker room and where they keep the Zambonis and where they store the basketball hard floor and nets. I’ve also been fortunate to walk down the ramp from the 5th floor to 32nd street which was pretty cool.

We should have our own ice girls. They all have to look somewhat like Jessica Alba and wear short skirts that fly up when they skate, and they have to have the other team’s logo on the butt of their underwear. We’ll call them the Saints and they’ll lead us to an 82-0 season.
To many guys and not girls. Most teams use ice girls. Rangers have Ice guys. Get rid of them and bring the women

I would like to see a center other than Strome who can actually win faceoffs, not take stupid penalties and can score.

Not sure if people at the game or watching on tv have noticed but for the playoffs they added LED lights between the suites and additional lights just under the 200s. Minimal investment but visually has added a bit of value.

They did replace the cooling system for the ice during the renovation but this year its been god awful. Time for another upgrade

The old Garden seats were red, orange, yellow, green and blue before the first renovation in the late 1980's/early 1990's.

I wonder if the bad ice is also due to the rink being on the 5th floor.

Yeah the rainbow seats.
Yeah they intentionally chose two awful colors to replace them. Have to assume their reasoning was, "Mauve seats suck" would never catch on.

A new arena is what is really needed at the end of the day. Real estate in manhattan isn't something that grows on trees though. Even if they tore down the current MSG a modern NHL venue couldn't fit in the current plot of land.

There's no other location that checks all of the boxes that the current one does which makes it a pipe dream.

The current MSG is fine for what it is. It's far from the worst rink in the NHL but like other posts have mentioned there is a lot of room for improvement in certain areas.
