As someone who is not a Knicks fan.. I happen to think James Dolan is one of the best owners in all of sports. The team has a rep for taking care of its players with first class amenities, and Dolan has foot the bill no questions asked to bring in high priced players and to bite the bullet on their buyouts.

Its mystifying how different Dolan is as owner of the Rangers compared to Dolan owner of the Knicks and how All-Star players avoid coming to play for the Knicks like the plague but the Rangers will always be a/the top destination for the best UFA's.
The Rangers suck almost as much as the Knicks and Dolan is the one common denominator.

He may not be as involved by he ultimately makes the hire that makes every other hire.

Common man...really? Exaggerate much? Rangers suck almost as bad as the Knicks?...lol

Rangers even in a full blown rebuild blow away and are not even in the same galaxy as far as suckitude as the Knicks both organizationally and on the court/ice.

The Knicks are complete rubbish and have been for the past 20 years other than 5 weeks of “Linsanity” seven years ago. Rangers on the other hand are and have been one of the top franchises in the sport and are well respected by the rest of the league and have been for decades.

I realize Dolan is the owner of both teams but that’s about the only comparison of the two franchises. So let’s go easy on even mentioning the Rangers in the same breath as the Knicks...sheesh...

I miss the fighting. I miss the enforcers. I miss the idea that these guys were fighting tooth and nail to win a battle. It felt more like a war. I miss being just as into a 5-1 game with 3 minutes left as a 2-2 game because you knew there was a fair chance things were going to fly off the handle.

I certainly wouldn't go that far, but I'll go this far: I have never hated a hockey player as much as I hate Brett Howden.

Even the Grand Puba Dan Girardi himself had aspects of hockey he was good at.

You must have been too young for Kamensky, McCarthy(looked like the Hulk but tried to play like Kovalev), Quintal, Pilon - whose name fit, and countless others in the late 90’s and early-mid 2000s.

I never cared for Gomez either...

It was the hockey version of the Great Depression

For me it's Tom Poti. Only player I have ever watched who went out of his way to avoid contact. Almost as if he's rather be hit than hit someone.

Or pretty much any player Sather just had to have back in the day. You know guys like Bobby f***ing Holik, Wade f***ing Redden. It really doesn't get much worse than that.

I mean you want to talk about hate for players...those two...Holik and Redden were at the top of the "hate parade" I'd bet for 99.9% Ranger fans at the time and possibly for all-time as well...lol

Seriously, the hatred for those two players were on a level that I have never seen than and that hasn't been approached since.

Brett Howden is a pimple on Bobby Holik's ass as far as the needing to hate goes...lol

I never got the extent of the Kamensky hatred, honestly. And it was HATRED. MSG booed him when he touched the puck. He produced at a .5 PPG clip though. Howden would sell organs to produce like that. I think Kamensky was hated more for representing the entire era that people were frustrated with (another declining scorer in his mid-30's) more than anything he actually did.

McCarthy is a weird one, tbh. He was legitimately terrifying and had third-line NHL talent. He was as good as enforcers get. I can't imagine not liking Sandy McCarthy. :dunno:

I'll give you Quintal and Pilon (holy f*** Quintal was bad!) but they didn't really have much of a role here. Howden plays JUST enough to really get under my skin. He's the perfect mix of a lot of factors. Yes, you could come up with a bunch of worse players that passed through but being forgettable disqualifies you from being truly hated.

Bobby Holik is another one that's really, really weird to me.

He had one of the best years of his career on the Rangers...

I'll give you that one, yeah.

I'm usually a huge fan of offensive defensemen but Poti was just as bad defensively as people generally say they are, times ten.

That's all part of it. He was never really an offensive defenseman for this team. He came with the reputation. He had the ability. He never seemed to have the drive. Rather he seemed happy to become a serviceable defenseman who was happy relying on poke checks thanks to his freakishly long stick.

Refresh my memory, was Holik on the team at the same time Trottier was coaching? Man what a dark period. I remember being a little kid and not knowing too much about anything but even I knew I hated The Holik signing. My dad was cursing up a storm when it happened.

He was always behind the net too lol. Every time the other team scored you look behind the net and there's #3.

For those of you don't remember Poti, picture Girardi on the game 6 Henrqiue winner except twice a game.

If Poti was smaller it might’ve been a little better but he was a big boy adverse to contact. I can buy small offensive guy whose not very physical. It also didn’t help that they dealt a gritty young forward for a big defenseman who was allergic to contact.
