Brandon Hagel is the 16th leading scorer in the league, don’t act like he’s some duster.

Cirelli has two cups.

There’s no margin for error in an event this short - taking players the head coach is familiar with and trusts in high leverage situations is not a bad thing.

...Cirelli was a ridiculous homer decision and doesn't deserve to be on the roster, especially over Sheifele...

Don't worry, the high powered offense will become really evident against Finland whenever Lindell isn't on the ice.

Edit: All praises to Matinpalo or Määttä are in order for the game against Sweden, but when they face McDavid or MacKinnon, it's going to be a completely another thing.

true but this thread is about offense
Aren't they connected? When your goalie is giving up 1 or 2 bad goals per game while you have to work hard for every goal you score, the offense is always going to struggle because it's like you've got to go into every game assuming you have to score 3+ to win because your goalie will give up his 2 weak ones.

When you have a goalie like Hellebuyck, the US can just play their game and not force things. They only scored 2 (on a goalie), so it's not like their offense was potent last night. The difference was their goalie didn't let in a softie or two.

It’s a best-on-best tournament, and they’ve played Sweden and the US.

Filip Gustavsson kept their first game from being a laugher.

The second game, they didn’t have Cale Makar.

The team is built to control the game and trust that having Makar, MacKinnon, McDavid, Crosby and Marchand on PP1 will be enough.

And it probably should be.

In a short tournament like this, I have no issues with their strategy when it comes to who they brought.

However, line combos leave a lot to be desired.

Marchand-Crosby-MacKinnon
Bennett-McDavid-Reinhart
Hagel-Cirelli-Stone
Jarvis-Point-Marner

Go win the tournament.
Marchand on PP#1?

March and on PP#1?

He should be - Marchand has skated with Sid and Mack every summer for over a decade. I think he knows how to read them.

He was one of the most dangerous Canadian forwards on the ice in extremely limited ice time.

In the absence of Makar, go with chemistry, which this team has very little of at the moment.

Macavoy happened, he crushed mcbaby and crosby twice each and they weren’t the same players after that.

Everybody has a plan until they get the punched in the mouth.

Fair enough about Hagel. Cirelli, though...

I'm a Bruins fan, and familiar with their off season routine. Marchand hasn't been very good on the PP this year.

Can't match their blueline or the force of nature they have in goal. They looked much better keeping the Canadians boxed out and moving the puck up the ice in transition.

People are criticizing Canada for getting too cute with the puck at times, but I think the only way they beat this U.S. team is by relying on speed and skill. I.e., McDavid and Mackinnon.

Celebrini could have saved Team Canada, but they decided to pick guys like Cirrelli, Hagel, Jarvis, and an over the hill Marchand instead.

Marchand will be extra motivated playing back in Boston, I think he feeds off the crowd to get him going. He needs to be with Sid, they have proven chemistry.

That first goal Binnington gave up last night completely sunk the bench. Completely killed all momentum Canada had after the McDavid goal.

I'll say it wasn't really Canada's best because Logan Thompson wasn't in net. He's second in GSAx this season behind Helle, but this dinosaur mentality of thinking that a goalie who cruised to a Stanley Cup for being "good enough" six years ago qualifies you to be our best option is what sank us. Poor McDavid continues to be plagued by inferior goaltending wherever he plays.

People really underestimate the prowess of Helleybuck. He's so calm and in position always it's how a Jets team with Mediocre talent can end up top of the league

It was the Binnigton decision that was the most baffling
not me, Helly is the best goalie in the world and he is one of the best players in the world period.

Team Canada roster proves Don Sweeney is incapable of constructing a championship roster . No salary cap, his only constraint is Canadian players and Sweeney still ffs it up. If this isn’t proof enough for bruins management to shitcan this guy nothing will be enough. Sorry for the tangent.
