Kampf and Kerfoot are two bottom 6 centers.

There are going to be NHLers looking for jobs in a couple weeks, and they'll look at the Leafs and see opportunities to be on a good team. There are always NHLers looking for a new job.

And there are prospects ready to compete. Their prospects aren't 20 year old graduating juniors.
As I said above, it is prove it time for the scouts and development staff. If they are any good it is time to prove it. If they aren't any good then time to clean house. So it's easy, call up a couple prospects, sign a couple well thought out UFA's and there you go.

I'm thinking Kerfoot will be moved out. He's a better #3LWer IMO but he is a decent #3C.

Prospects that are ready to compete are great but we need prospects who are ready to play in the NHL. I'm not sure we have many. Love to see Knies and Robbie on lines 2 and 3 by playoff time but I think Robbie could be trade bait.

I think his shopping list fairly aparent:

list of priorities
1. goaltending (trade or UFA)
2. RFAs (Kase, Engvall, Sandin)
3. forwards (UFA or trade)
4. defense (possibly move out Holl/Sandin/Muzzin)

If he can move 1 or 2 bodies out (Holl, Kerfoot, *Nylander, *Tavares, Muzzin, etc.) he might have more flexibility to balance the team.

*unlikely Nylander/Tavares moves. KD would be making his boldest moves to date if he moved either player.

What do you think will happen with the little cap space Dubas has?

:leafs

Money out money in. I suspect Dubas will look for RFA's that dont get qualifying offers (Bunting/Kampft), bargan UFA's who are injury prone but ahve high upside if healthy. Kerfoot for his production is a good cap hit, so is Holl - no matter how bad some Leaf fans want hi gone , he's coming back, you won't find a dman at his cap hit for what he brings. As much as Nylander is an enigma , hot and cold, he won't be traded, at 7mil his cap hit is a good value for his production.

Robertson will be a roster player, ready or not, he's too good of a value to be stuck in the AHL. He works his ass off every shift, has not shown the scoring touch his brother has but at 800k a hard working, energy guy is not the worst choice for a 4th liner. Perhaps he learns the trade and works his way up the roster during the season. Rinse wash repeat, I think 2 or 3 cheap farm players will make the team.

While we have barely picked in the first round since we drafted Lily, other teams like the Wings and Sens have been picking in the top 8. At some point they may catch up to our good team like the Rangers and Panthers have since we lost to Washington.

Would love to have Shesterkin between the pipes.

I could see Kerfoot involved in a trade, but might not be for picks.

I'm still not sold on Robertson, all I see in my mind is him on the ice after another encounter. I don't watch the Marlies so I only have pictures of his NHL efforts. Hope he proves me wrong, there are other small players in the NHL, Marchand/Gallagher for example, who don't get tossed around like that. Maybe he just isn't strong?

A goalie of that quality could be the difference but I'm not buying that he is the only reason why the Rangers passed us. They have some quality players and some up and coming kids who are already in the show. We are still waiting on Robbie, Knies, Sandy, Niemela, Hirnoven, Steeves, etc.

Look at the age of their top producers, 30, 29, 31 those are the players carrying their load.

I'll give them Fox and Lafreniere, but some of their others haven't proven anything yet.

I'm sure Leafs could have had a rookie score 8 goals playing 67 games.

Rangers haven't passed us, and they were hard carried by Shesterkin this year.

Sure perhaps in your eyes and even if true they will be carried by Shesterkin next year and the next 10. Get used to it. You are not beating them with as you say a "value" tandem.

How'd that work out for us BTW.

The amount of cap space the Leafs have heading into this offseason is actually much higher. CapFriendly currently has Abruzzese, Clifford and Kallgren on the active roster. If you assume they are on the Marlies next year, and that Mrazek is at the very least bought out, the number is around 11.5M. If the Leafs move Holl as well, that would bring the number to around 13.5M.

Only worked out for Colorado.

Only thing that matters is the Cup.

I remember the discussions about the Oilers winning a couple of rounds, and the shouting about how meaningless winning a couple rounds is.

So if we apply that same standard (we all love consistency right?) only Colorado can crow!

Other than Matthews, Rangers are a better all round team. Trouba is also becoming a force on their D.

No goalie. Tavares is declining, Nylander avoids contact and Marner is easily neutralized when it counts. The rest of our forwards are average players at best who have no positive impact when push comes to shove.

Leafs do have had a rookie who could score 8 goals playing 67 games or they would have played them. Robbie, Abrussezze, Steeves could not make the cut and nobody else is close. Hence why Dubas will be dumpster diving again in two weeks.

Shesterkin put up one of the best goaltending seasons in the cap era. Even if we are to go by the assumption that Shesterkin is a once in a generation type goalie and will perform at a consistently high level for a long time, there's no chance that he's going to come close to repeating this year every year for the next decade (probably not even once). And even with them getting that generational-level goaltending, and us getting sub-par goaltending, we were still the better team.

Trade Kerfoot for picks
Trade Holl for a pick
Re-sign Campbell with his tail in-between his legs
Sign fill-in guys, hopefully more Kases, Buntings and Kampfs and less Ritchies.
It's a total sellers market for goalies with demand far exceeding supply. More like Campbell is going to make Dubas his b****.

Yup only one team wins the cup every year. At least you saw them win a couple of cup in the past 60 years. Martin Luther King was alive and kicking ass the last time we hoisted the cup.

115 point team with their top players, other than Tavares, just entering their prime.

Already upgraded their defense with Giordano.

Need their goaltender sorted out, and someone to join the 2nd. line.

Bottom 6 will be easy to fill, already have 2 capable centers for the bottom 6.
Matthews, Marner and Nylander are in their prime years now. Tavares is on the decline and Giordano will be 39 years old at the start of the season. Leafs need to make some critical moves for next season.

We got a generational goal scoring season out of Matty. Guessing Matty is going to continue to get better but Shesterkin has peeked.

You can say we were the better regular season team but you can't say we were the better playoff team because we did not play them head to head.

Yeah, coach has to have courage to play the rookie, maybe Dubas has to give him no choice by not giving him options?

OT: Funny, Tavares is declining but that should have no affect on his linemates.

Giordano is a 3rd. pairing defender on the Leafs who was playing over 20 minutes a night in Seattle.

I think he'll be fine for the next couple of years.

Tavares is past his prime, he's 32 in September, never was fleet of foot. He's still near PPG, but needs help to get there.

Matthews, marner, Nylander skating is from good to excellent.

0-6 in the post season.
Show me, don’t tell me, and stop trying to sell me.

So you've formulated an opinion based on someone you watched in his teens in the NHL playoffs? Gotta give some runway here.

The truth of the matter is, we don't know what we have until we give them NHL reps, and not 7 minutes on the 4th line either.

How strong was Marner? He was down a lot early too.

This exactly! Robertson is too easily pushed off the puck. That's the last thing the Leafs need. We also have a coach who does well like the team in the regular season but has no answers in the playoffs when the PP fails and teams clog up center ice.
