Doesn't it depend on the assets coming back?

No, because as I said Robertson is made of glass.

If he could stay healthy it would be different but he's proven he can't.

Now if you moved out Jarnkrok and could bring in Tatar for 1-1.5 then that's different.

Then You'd be getting assets, saving money and you wouldn't be losing any offense in fact you might be gaining it.

But trading Jarnkrok to give a walking injury his spot would be stupid

No one should be counting on Robertson.

Write him off and try and get futures for Jarnkrok.

There are other players in the system.

Play Robertson expecting he won't finish the season on the team, then call up others prospects for auditions when he goes on LTIR.

This is probably the most practical solution I've seen yet.

Even if he stays healthy does anyone actually think Robertson will either crack the top six or be an effective bottom six player?

Once this guy gets hurt and can be thrown on LTIR they basically gain another league minimum NHL player for the roster. Because Robertson isn't one yet. The team is already deep in LTIR anyway.

Adding Robertson to that won't have a negative impact on anything they do now.

It is crazy to think this guy was being penciled into lineups next to Matthews 4 years ago.
well that is a bit silly.

If he has a good year finally and stays healthy a top 9 spot where he goes between the 2nd or 3rd lines is possible.

I think that's his potential given the opportunity and avoids injury.

He’s had a shot.

He still deserves more time. We gave up on Verhaeghe and Marchment and look how they turned out.

I get it with his injury history but he’s still just a kid and it’s not like he’s some significant trade piece either that we can dangle.

Can we stop bringing up Verhaghe like he counts?

It took him 6 years and his 4th team before he broke out.

TAMPA let him walk.

Verhaghe is a unicorn cases like him don't happen.

I don't want to wait 6 years for Robertson

He basically either needs to massively increase his strength, particularly lower body strength or he has to switch his style of play. Just way too small to be as fearless as he is and to go against big guys like he does. Will ruin his career with injuries if he doesn't change.

Ok so you just want to get rid of him because…?

Because as talented as I think he is, and I do, much like I think Matt Murray is a highly talented goaltender.

But much like I KNOW Matt Murray is injury prone and can't stay healthy.

I also KNOW Robertson is injury prone and can't stay healthy.

It's not a talent question it never has been.

Not disagreeing with you but what’s the point of cutting him loose right now?

We can’t trade him for much. He has more value to us as a long shot prospect than a trade piece I would think.

I think being patient will pay off with Nick, he’s had some insane bad luck with freak injuries but if he can find some consistency with his health hes worth the wait cause we don’t have many prospect with the skill he possesses

IMO he needs to be with good players more then Knies does. I would have him 2nd line LW and Domi 3rd line C with Knies his LW. Giving up on him now with his talent and age is pure foolishness.

Pump him full of 'roids all summer until he's a fire hydrant and then let him loose lol.
But seriously he was consider a grade A prospect after that sensationl junior year. It wasn't far fetched to be on a wing with AM

I doubt he turns into much of anything but what’s the harm in waiting?

How long should we wait? If memory serves he was drafted in 2019, It's August 2023 How long do you want to wait? It's already been 4+ years and in that time he had a goal in 2020 against Columbus.

And a good regular season game against Dallas once.

And that's it.

Like I'm pretty sure that's literally it.

4+ years later that's it.

The most important of all this is he still plays cheap. We need cheap and productive. Last chance for the kid. Let's see what he's got.

So? If there is still an outside shot at him becoming a top 6 NHL forward I say wait if all it costs is 1 of 50 contract spots.

I mean, the kids biggest knock right now is he plays the game too hard. Should we abandon him for that? We got about 30 contracted players I wish had that as there big issue.

Lets give the kid another year or two. After that, if he can't adjust and/or stay healthy well I guess he'll retire or go to Europe.
