He's had his shot

He's 21. He's struggled with injuries for the past couple seasons.

Unless there's value to be had via trade, you keep and continue to develop him. This season He's either in the top 9 for the Leafs or starts on the first line with the Marlies.

Looking at the 2019 draft, I only see maybe 3 guys that have played NHL games that were taken after Nick. That's Leason, Macceli, and Thrun. Not exactly big names in the game, although Macceli had a great season.

4 yrs isn't exactly as long as you're making it out to be. He is only going to be 22 this season and was a late 2nd rounder.

This next timeline of the core and their ceiling will most likely come down to how much support they can get from young players like Knies, Liljegren, Woll, Robertson, Niemela.

If 3 of the 5 hit big, it could be the difference.
