Bones, do you live in california? No way that car has been on NE-USA roads for 35 years. Even with garage & repainting. Is it a manual?

I know nostalgia is a powerful thing, but that car looks better than (in most cases much better) most cars built the last few years. Design has gone to hell, though the interiors/tech is much better. Damn.

Good stuff. Are those old Preludes FWD or RWD? I don't remember. The TL SH-AWD is big - it has that solid/planted feel like it weighs 10 tons, which can be good but also not super nimble. It feels just like my old Audi 200 Quattro, which is a good thing! And I get about 18mpg, which isn't great. Have the Miata RF's been around long enough to find a used model for a decent price? The roof gives it a whole different look/vibe IMO.

I forgot about the Accord Coupe - good call. Not sure how hard it is to find an old Mazdaspeed model in good condition, or that's not abused. But I think they made AWD models of the 3 and 6 series with MT? If I think of other possibilities I'll post them.
All Preludes are FWD. I had a 4WS model which was fantastic. It took getting used to but sharp turns felt like turning bumper-cars, weird. It was all mechanical so would cause serious alignment issues if you bumped your rims while parking but mine was perfect and a blast to drive.

I had a 2007 Acura TL, that model I loved. It was a little smaller, lighter, nimbler than the models after, great car. I only sold it (all my cars) on first sign of rust. I can't stand rust on cars which is why I like the Audis (if you can manage a good one that doesn't burn oil - which I luckily did)

Great call on the Mazdaspeed and wasn't sure about AWD and MT but worth a look.

I wasn't aware of the 4WS option - I can imagine that must be a different sensation!

I prefer the looks of your year TL, but I got lucky on my 2013 that was a CPO car coming off a lease with minimal mileage, a crazy low price and .9% financing at the time. I should mention that it's white, which tones down the grille on that TL. It was at a dealer in north Jersey and I think the MT was a problem for them to sell. I traded in my 2007 Civic SI - that was a great car if you can find one of them not abused. I bought a set of extra OEM rims for a song from a local Honda dealer and put snow tires on them and swapped them out onto the SI every year - it was actually pretty good in snow. A great shifter and a high-revving 200HP engine, and that was the last great SI generation (until the current one). :thumbu:

Are you ever tempted to put that up on Bring a Trailer? I'll bet you'd do well. Better to drive it though!

I actually bought it from BaT, last February. I'm in NY -- but this rare gem was garaged in Mass all its life and re-sprayed in mid 90's. All stock, no rust, 108k. and yes manual.

Its all good till it needs parts, then im effed!

Who needs parts? Just find a good Havana mechanic.

(if you're not familiar with cars in Cuba, look it up - pretty fascinating)

2006 Mazda 3 with 130,000 miles on it. A hooptie. Small enough to fit in a lot of parking spots on the streets near Barclays Center that SUVs have to pass up.

Apparently I’ll have to get 2-3 more years out of that car until we’re out of Barclays. The day we are finished in Brooklyn I go to the Audi dealer and buy myself a new A5. :yo:

So how's the Audi?

My original plan was I'd get a WRX STi, but stupid Subaru has dropped the STi model as they fully soccer-mom their lineup. :(
I currently lease a 2020 WRX. I learned how to drive manual on it, though my heel-and-toe technique needs work. Unlike the STI models, the torque curve is optimized in the 2500-4000 rpm range (the STI's are designed for more of the 3500-5000 rpm range) so it's torquey enough for road use.

Someone side-swiped me in the parking lot on the Mass Pike just over the NY line (Lee, MA) while I was inside getting some food and didn't leave any contact info, so it's in the shop right now and the lease expires in 2 weeks. I just extended the lease because I didn't know if I'd get the repairs done in time. I really want a Mach 1 Mustang with that glorious Tremec 6-speed golf ball (great-sounding NA V8 + manual + RWD = awesome) but those are WAY overpriced right now and obviously not great in the winter.

Subaru knows what makes them money: boring, affordable and reliable. No one does boring like Subaru. For some people that's enough, for someone like me that watches clips of the 2023 Corvette Z06 on loop just to hear that redline-chasing sound...it ain't enough in the slightest.

Then I thought the Golf R, but it still looks like a Golf.
$$$$$, and since it's a VW the repairs/parts cost a fortune too.

It's too bad because the new Golf R is shockingly fast.
Then I found out about the Corolla GR... and I'm very intrigued.
Are those FWD? Don't remember.

dangerous tastes - financial, insurance, winter, police.

maybe three kids, two wives, two mortgages will change you? You can take the boy out of the car......

Those GRs will be rare and greatly overpriced by gouging dealers, like a type R Civic. You're right about the Subarus but I can't get past the styling and bland interiors even though the STI is kinda marketed as a legal rally-car.

Good luck!

Bummer about your Subie, but yeah, Subaru has gone to shit.

The new Corolla GR is AWD with 3 modes - 50/50 split, 60/40 F-R split and 30/70 F-R split… very intrigued about that last one… a drifting I will go…

Don’t know if it would help, but parking lots like that have cameras everywhere. They probably got whoever hit your car on film. May not be able to make out a plate, and may be too late now anyway, but might be able to tell you it was a red Nissan Sentra or something.

Ranger is what I've been thinking of for a while now, what turned you off from it?

For reference, I have a 2 door 2007 Jeep Wrangler. I need more space and gas mileage. Would be interested in @QuadDeuces Gladiator but that MPG ain't going to be enough for me unfortunately...
If you aren't a "give me three pedals or give me death" type, you can get the diesel. 20-25 MPG and better towing capacity.

Pre-ordered a 2024 Mustang GT or Dark Horse the other day. Last call for 8 cylinders and 3 pedals.
I saw a new Mustang the other day. Looked like an SUV. and had a big IPAD in the console.

🤮

Ill assume the GT is a more traditional Mustang shape?

Ugh - I hate that. I get it, but I hate it. Not that I'm looking to buy one any time soon....
No one to blame but the auto manufacturers. They need to actually set aside allocations to produce these cars to meet demand. Now they have the excuse of supply chain issues, but this was going on way before 2020.

When I got the Z/28 back in 2014 the local dealers wanted $10k over sticker on a factory order. I ordered one from Detroit instead with GM supplier pricing, and they included delivery.

No surprise there - my advice is to not do business with any metro NY area dealers unless you want your cornhole resized, and they'll probably tack on an extra fee for that as well. They're far from the only ones doing this markup nonsense, but here you'll pay top dollar plus markup plus a dozen other made-up fees.
