System of a Down- Toxicity. Bought when I was a young teen, I was just too young for metal in those days- holy shit, this album slaps. The political messages are on point, and it just grinds and churns. 10/10
Frank Zappa- Hot Rats. Unexpected directions and earworms all over, every idea is dialed to 11. An introduced chord wobbles increasingly violently before losing form, a hi-hat takes on a voice of its own, begging for attention. Not my normal bag, but I’ve always heard Zappa rules. 10/10.
Ya, I’ve just been following Fantano’s recent lists. That and Pitchfork- there’s so much good shit out there that I just sift through their reviews for what I like and don’t like. Occasionally I stumble upon someone they hate (Enter Shikari), but otherwise their lists gimme plenty to dig through.
Happy listening y’all.
