The only hope might be that money Marner starts to realize that the mounting anger towards him might start to impact his endorsement value and pick his game up.
You're absolutely right. It appears that right now it's all about the money for Paul and his son. We have to hope that along with that realization that his stock has fallen with most fans that he begins to mature. That's the one thing that sticks out for me, he appears to be a petulent, entitled kid who would rather play Fortnight with his buddy Bieber than be mentally prepared to play hockey when it counts. There's no denying he's talented. It's the aura he emits that pisses people off.

My expectation is they finished second in the Atlantic and win a playoff series. My hope is they do much better and bring us home a cup.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and if you dislike Dubas that is fine, I see some of the points. I just wonder if the hatred towards him would cause certain people to be upset if the leafs actually did win, instead of happy. Sometimes all the negativity towards him can get to be a little too much imho.

I would be beyond thrilled if they do win

Oh we already know 'Leafs fans' actually cheer against the Leafs so that Dubas gets fired. It's quite comical.
I'm neither here nor there on Dubas. He's done bad and good, but I guarantee there would be upset fans if Dubas succeeds. They just have a blind hatred of him, and want him to fail.

That's not true at all.

Potentially the best constructed roster in minimum the last dozen years. Should be a good playoff and regular season roster if the roughest players come through and gel the team together better. I’m expecting players to play bigger this year.

I don't like what Dubas has done to this point and it affects my prediction below, but I would be thrilled to be proven wrong. It's sad if a Leafs fan would prefer to see the Leafs lose but be right in their opinion rather than see the Leafs be successful.

As for my prediction:

I expect the team to finish 3rd or 4th in the division and lose more quickly than usual in the first round. I don't think they will beat any of TB, BOS, FLA in a playoff series. I think the lack of depth compared to previous years will contribute to them not being able to keep up with the top of the division during the regular season.

If there are a couple of key injuries, I can see the team missing the playoffs entirely. Then again, that probably applies to most teams.

Every year I expect a deep playoff run and every year I’ve been disappointed (to put it lightly). I’m expecting to fizzle out in the first round at this point.

I'm fully expecting a single series playoffs again. It's not impossible that things could go south this season but the stars are still fit, the defense is mostly sound and there are two options in goal. The team should win games in the regular season. Dreams of annual championship contention are mostly over. I'm riding out the next 3 seasons hoping that one season the team catches lightning in the bottle.

I'd say that's pretty reasonable and about where I'm at. I think the leafs have a chance at beating Florida and might even be a better team than Boston but I won't believe they can beat the B's until I see it. Tampa would be heavy favourites ofc.

Still hoping for a miracle run but it's hard to blame fans who are concerned for the direction of the team.

i expect half the curmudgeons on the boards to jump back on the bandwagon by december :D :D :D :D

Maybe a 1/4......the last two post season performances have really sucked the optimism out of a lot of people.

Personally, I had pretty high Final Four expectations last season.

Ya, I thought the realignment of divisions last year might help us get by the first 2 playoff rounds. Boy, was I wrong.

I don't care what they do in the regular season just as long as they get into the playoffs. What they do once they are in the playoffs is the thing that counts, and what I care about.

I don't want to listen to excuses, just win baby win. And winning one round will be lunch bag let down for me as well. They have to be able to do more than that.

Our cecaptain Johnny Tavares playing the powerplay all the time and malhotra, manny not coaching the powerplay anymore

Except for Mrazek, I don't think they have done anything much to improve the club. Even if Campbell regresses a little, no way Mrazek is as bad as Freddy was last year so I think they will have another good regular season.

There is no expectation their top 4 D will have better years. We don't know if they will solve the pp problems. Hyman is a legit loss to the club, and Spezza is 38 and unlikely to repeat at the same level as last season. Will Keefe give significant ice time to JT and Willie? Does JT have another big year in him? Does Simmonds have even a mediocre year in him?

They have a whole bunch of maybes who seem capable of making a contribution to a winner if they can play close to their ceiling. I like the Carbery add altho what his impact will be behind Keefe remains to be seen. We have seen the club grab rentals last year because they think they are on the cusp and it follows they will do the same thing again so the biggest question marks during the season will be addressed before the playoffs start, and Carbery might be Keefe's heir apparent if they don't have a great first half.

Other clubs made more meaningful changes in the off season so I am not assuming anything. They sink or swim with the big 4 so if they get their load management figured out they might have a lot more to show in the playoffs.

I'm expecting that my 30 year old bottle of 25 year old Scotch whisky, that I will open the day we win the Cup, will remain unopened for another year.

I'd love to be wrong.

I’m expecting that when I actually start to watch them, they will be in the playoffs.

any takers on my bets below? putting my money (in CDN$) where my mouth is

1 - The Leafs win at least one playoff round ($200)
2 - Jack Campbell wins at least 30 games this season ($50)
3 - At least 3 of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander end up in Top 25 in points ($50) by end of regular season
