What are you expecting out of this season?

Embarrassment.

Will it be the standard first round exit embarrassment, or a special one like a zamboni driver beating us? Could it be our future captain making an ass of himself? Or will it be caused by the arrogance of our poindexter GM?

Regardless, I expect the Leafs to Leaf.

I expect to be dominated by the Habs, Sens, and Bruins, and miss the playoffs completely. Anything better than that will be all gravy !!! Keep the expectations low, and be pleased with anything better !!!

Shanahan and his gang of underachievers need to go !!! I'm starting to believe that Shanahan was an NHL plant to keep our Leafs from any form of REAL success !!! His Leaf teams since he has been president have NOT played hockey the way he did !!! Nope, not at all !!!

And to add, Shanahan allowed Dubus to overpay our underachieving stars such that we have little Cap room to surround them with any minor stars. He also allowed Lamoriello to give Marleau that horrid contract with the handcuffing 3rd year that cost our Leafs a 1st round draft pick !!! That Marleau contract also encouraged our young guns to ask for more that they were worth IMHO !!!

this is what i expect this season

-Leafs to be in a life and death struggle to make the playoffs
-Mathews/Marner/Rielly/Nylander/Brodie to have good seasons
-this years poor season by JT's will blamed on his concussion
-goalies to be up an down
-Muzzin to keep regressing but fans too keep insisting he's an elite defensive D just like they said about Phaneuf until the end
-Sandin to play well offensively but poorly defensively
-most if not all of the shit Dubie flung at the wall this summer to fall off
-Dubie to trade at least one if not both of the top 2 picks we have left this draft and to move a 2nd or 3rd in the following draft
-Shanny and Dubie to continue to try to deflect any struggles the team has away from them and unto the AM/MM

Gonna bookmark a few of these posts.

Leafs will go on a huge run this season.

I think a deep run should be an expectation this season.
But let’s see how they are playing post TDL to have a better grip on the team.

Hey big things most often happen in this quantum world when everyone jumps off the caboose..

I would love to see it, and hell ya, I will jump back on...

BTW, completely out of left field. I found rick vaive to be a very cool dude, and hospitable. When I interfaced with him..

Read this dumb article for some amusement. I guess Vaive was not in the best of moods or WHATEVER... talk about ridiculous... And Shanahan steals his teammates wife and hires Dubas. So go into the article a bit forewarned.

NHL Fan Was Refused An Autograph By A Famous Player, Then 4 Years Later He Got The Last Laugh

My take is that any NHLer can have his ups and downs with his moods or emotions, but, wow, are they ever judged harshly...

6 years after scorched earth...I expect two playoff series wins and first in the division.

Whether it's realistic for this team isn't our problem...it's Dubas'.

If this isn't our expectation now, what are we even doing here?

Well then the question becomes, if you couldn't beat Columbus and Montreal who were offensively challenge, what makes you believe this team can beat Florida and Isles now.
We had our opportunities at home yet somehow we managed to make nothing out of it

Over last 2 years we have lost significant depth in Kadri, Kapanen and now Hyman. We have no replaced them with anyone equal or better
Kadri > Kerfoot
Kapanen > Mikaheyev
Hyman > Ritchie and Bunting

There seems to be no one coming up the ranks either. Robertsson looks like he'll make a jump but impact is still unknown

Florida looks so well built now. Bennett and Reinhart can both contribute and has a physicality to their game
Verhaege looking to be coming on his own
Not sure what Tippet's upside is but Denisenko looks very promising

Along with Spencer Knight, Barkov, Houberdreau and Ekblad already playing big minutes, that's a very good team

We should already be there but the rebuild was stalled when Dubas took over

1) you also forget to take into account that there is some addition by subtraction. not having thornton, vesey and engvall not the top 9 is a huge step forward overall. it we mak a list of all the additions and subtractions its very close.

2) anyone else find it ironic that florida gets so much love on these leafs boards for no reason ?
-they have accomplished less that the leafs in almost 30 years
-their stars have accomplished nothing in the league
-survived last year with a vezina calibur goalie that came out of literally nowhere.
-survived last year with 3 unknowns un their top 9 and needed a miracle in production, from other teams castoffs.
- they dont have noteworthy picks this year to bolster their lineup at the deadline

its crazy to think they "praise" huberdeau who was 27 and barkov who was 25. (what was their production last year in the playoffs ... oops not good.)
but shit on marner and matthews who were 23.

and the leafs are "screwed" because marner is paid 2 mil more than value and florida isnt with bobrovksy eating 10 mil of the cap on the bench.
Feels like bizarro world to me.

3)
i expect a great post season from marner and matthews. Most of the time players dont have playoff impacts until they are at least 24 years old. the crosby and kane cups are exceptions and not the norms. This is the make or break year for the core. Forget about everything last season and enjoy the games.

The team should be expected to win a Cup by now.

The decisions by management have made it such that I think management would throw themselves a party if they got out of the first round.

Leafs will go on a huge run this season.

This sounds like something someone would post in a thread like this every season until it happens, then when it finally does brag about how they proved everyone else wrong.

I know I don't have to point this out, but for reference anyone saying they will go on a run each of the past 5 years is 0-5 right now.

But I do appreciate the positivity.

Expecting you say? This is what I'm expecting, and it'd be the Leafiest thing ever that it may just come true.

The Leafs will finish 2nd in the Atlantic and Florida will finish 3rd. The Leafs will face the Panthers in the first round of the playoffs, a series that features the only two teams to not win a playoff round since the 2004-05 lockout. The series will go to 7 games, with former Leaf prospects Mason Marchment and Carter Verhaeghe having significant impacts on the series. The Leafs will lose game 7 in an epic no show faction like they've shown in years past. Dubass and Shanascam will finally be fired and one of Marner or Nylander will be traded for pennies on the dollar by the new GM. Whichever of the two is traded will go on to flourish with their new team and win a Stanley Cup or two, and for the Leafs, the curse lives on.

Let me be the first to say, I hope this isn't what happens but that's the expectations I have, and the Leafs' recent track record backs up those expectations.

What will happen will happen. I just watch as it plays out. I, of course, hope they do well and I get to watch a lot of playoff hockey. But if they do poorly, I may start shifting the time I spend on the Leafs to other interests before the season ends.

There are many conceivable ways that the season could play out, so I see no reason to get upset over anything that happens.

You are right. It’s unimaginable how low our bar has become.
5-6 years into a rebuild after winning the draft lottery and we are hoping for a first round win…………totally pathetic job.
Ownership is missing in action
