What’s your unpopular hockey opinion?

In the regular season if a game is tied after 60 minutes then it is a tie and one point each team instead of creating the extra point out of thin air.

This North-American allergy towards tied matches is silly.

On the other hand, the European invention of the silly three points wins and two points wins and one point for the loser is even more absurd.

The eye test is still better than "advanced stats" you can tell if a player is good by watching them, if advanced stats were superior to the eye test scouts wouldn't be needed

Based on what I've been seeing in the Sportsnet threads the last few days, I don't think Sportsnet is the spawn of saten when it comes to Hockey coverage. Heck, I think for the most part they do a great job and I would rather get news from Elliot Friedman than Bob McKenzie.

Unpopular opinions, not wrong opinions.

I guess it's my opinion that wrong opinions don't exist.

Minnesota is extremely underrated. They have at least 2, if not 3 of the top 30-40 defensemen in the NHL, Parise is still a legit top 6 winger and they have a solid prospect group.

Name three better players in the Eastern Conference.

Nikita Kucherov
Sidney Crosby
Evgeni Malkin

...among others. Ovechkin, Giroux, Bergeron, Stamkos... are also better than Barkov as of right now imo. And probably others I forget. And I'm just talking about forwards.

Make the damn nets bigger. Its honestly not rocket science and obvious why this needs to happen, and its the answer to 90% of the NHLs problems gets fixed with one easy change.

Its just silly to me because it obvious that this will happen one day. And for whatever reason, we are delaying the invetiable. People want to see offence and high level talent go to work, and without fundamentally changing the game (ie going to 4 v4), there is no way to properly curb the size of today's players, and the effectiveness of the systems that coaches are running.

I'd like to see every game be a 3 point game

regulation win = 3PTS
OT win = 2PTS
OT loss = 1PT
regulation loss = 0PTS

McDavid is by far, the best player in the NHL. For some reason, this seems to be unpopular the more I read the general board. To me, it really isn't up for debate

The Panthers completely dismantled the framework of a team that would have been a contender for at the very least, the next 3 years including this year.

Leaf fans are entitled and the rest of the Canadian fanbases are insecure- mostly a generalization. This goes beyond hockey somewhat too IMO. I don't think it exists in the US because there's more scattered large media/financial metropolis' spread out over the country.

Size is very important in the NHL, especially come playoff time

The bear-hug that big guys like Weber/Chara do on the boards should be called as holding. There's already too much obstruction in the game and to me, it's a clever work-around

We need a bigger ice-surface- the game is still a bit too slow-paced at ES, obstruction clearly won't change. The game needs more infusion of skill to get fans excited....its' way to easy to trap right now at the blue-line or around the neutral zone. It doesn't have to be length, but more width.

Matthews is a top 3-5 player in the NHL and the only reason this idea is seemingly debatable on here is because of injuries, playing through injuries, and usage.

We have about 5-6 too many teams in the NHL. At the very least, a few of the teams need to be relocated- for instance one of Ana/SJ to SF

Crediting individual players with championships is synonymous with saying "I don't understand the game of hockey."
