Avs fan coming in peace. Did the Oilers have any TDL acquisitions? I can't think of any. The only acquisition of note was Kane, pre-TDL which I thought was a mistake at the time. Total error in judgment on my part. Kane has been a real stud for the Oilers.

I have been trying to do a comparison of TDL acquisitions.

Avs - Manson, Sturm, Cogliano and Lehkonen
Rangers - Copp and Motte
Lightning - Paul and Hagel
Oilers - ? as to TDL acquisitions.
Internet is your friend dude.

1. how good is Toews? if we were making a list of D to represent Canada at the Olympics, whereabouts would he rank?

2. how good is Josh Manson? who are some comparables around the league that might have similar value?

Manson is kind of meh, toews is one of the stronger pure defenders. If you were to make an olympics list of players and he was there, you could easily slot him in any pair to take heavy assignments and he excels there. He is going to be a tough matchup.

Toews is one of the best and was one of the most underrated dmen in the league (although he's finally getting the credit this year b/c points), 2 way beast and probably top 20 in NHL. Manson is a rich man's Adam Larsson (aka pretty one dimensional and bad).

I’m pretty sure we broke Markstrom. No answers and looks shell shocked still.

I actually liked Markstrom's replies ... at least what I would want from a goaltender. Didn't rush to judgement on what went wrong, has parked the result and will dig into it when he begins training for next year. Clearly not satisfied to be doing a year end interview in answering if he/they as a team could view this year as a success. Media ending with questions around Tanev's injury clearly an effort to cite this as an excuse for losing.

If I was a Flames fan I would’ve liked to see him take more personal responsibility.

He played his way into a Vezina shortlist. A major reason that team overachieved. I wouldn't expect him to jump on a hand grenade during garbage bag day. He answered what was asked about him, addressed he will dig into what went wrong when he begins training for next year. This is super fresh after an embarrassing loss to their blood rivals. Media will paint the picture of what they perceive went wrong (expecting Tanev excuse making). Clearly goaltending was an issue and it will be a critical part of the media analysis. Personally, I expect the personal responsibility/accountability is behind closed doors where it probably should be, to teammates which players live brotherhood of day-to-day life and pursuit of team success.

Welcome!

Been answered by others but will add a bit. Holland targeted depth on defense adding Kulak from Montreal. Kulak has delivered for this team with veteran experience gained from Montreal's Cinderella Cup run. He's shown excellent versatility as a 3LD but ability to move up the line-up as the Oil manage some injuries. Edmonton has also engaged Kulak as a secondary Penalty Killer, an area he hasn't done before. Kulak is an excellent skater, sold puck mover, moreso a finesse style but has been engaged in battle areas. Very good pick up for a 2nd round pick and late round sweetener for salary retention.

Derek Brassard was brought in for some veteran forward depth and versatility as a centre/wing (though primarily a winger in his golden years). Got an early look with Nugent Hopkins as a 3W but has drifted into the press box with ineffective play. Got in 1 playoff game but underwhelmed. Oilers opting for a more physical, engaged option with Josh Archibald.

Kane as a late-season acquisition has simply hit it out of the park with his power forward game, physical edge and ability to complement McDavid as a 1W volume shooter.

This should be an amazing series.
