Rumor: Werenski, CBJ to Meet about Future After the Draft

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
Yep. This has been my worry the whole time with him. Passive and risk averse in a league where the top teams all improve through trades. Waddell should be the one getting all the shit Jarmo got for “it’s in the room”.
had they moved the fourth pick for necas:
  1. they would’ve had two full years to convince him to re-sign
  2. they indisputably would’ve made the playoffs both years (which strengthens the case to re-sign him lol)
  3. they would’ve become a destination for larkin this summer pretty easily, had expendable assets to spend to get him, and become legit contenders
instead, waddell chickened out despite already having a good pre-existing relationship with the player and agent and picked lindstrom (not don’s fault how that one has gone) who has zero value now.

he also talked up big moves from the day he was hired through last summer, but pulled off zero actual big acquisitions. even circled back on provorov and got bent over a barrel on that contract as a result.

then last summer he talked a big game about extending fantilli which… still! hasn’t! happened!

he has no juice. he’s a bum. every other team is turning over their rebuilds super fast because they hire nerds and we have a damn keebler elf on the job. i’m sick.

100% agreed and this was a day 1 worry of mine. I’ve given him some slack in the meantime, but yeah, “no juice” is pretty much exactly how I’d describe it.

Necas wouldn’t agree to resign here . So they abandoned the trade

The fact its after the draft says alot. If it was before the draft its over...if its after then that destroys all Free agency planning and significantly pushes CBJ back. You can have Z pop in there saying "i want out" when the draft is this week and then you need to wait a year to develop those picks.

Nah this feels more damage control than anything else.
I know it’s all just words, and people can say anything they want to the press

But we’ve got Waddell saying he’s had breakfast with him and talks to him regularly

His agent on the record saying he has no idea where this noise is coming from and Zach wants to be part of the solution

Every insider says “he hasn’t asked out yet”

I highly doubt that Columbus has no idea what Zach feels and wants at this point.

Zach made it clear he wanted a quiet low key summer with his new baby - is this a public “statement by Zach” to get this to stop?

Regardless, it appears that Waddell simply doesn't have the balls to pull off big acquisitions. Every time we hear "the price was too high".

Even this week, we heard, essentially, that he doesn't want to move KJ or Voronkov in any trade, so we're clearly not even attempting to big game hunt.

I love Z

I love Z

I love Z

That said, I was pretty critical of him at the end of the year. I also didn't love his reaction to it after the fact. He's a tremendous player, but if you want a shot in the arm and a seismic culture change let's go.

Could be a disaster, or could alter the direction of our franchise. If we got a Hughes like deal but the stud be a forward we might really be a better team.

I stay start the f***in bidding. I'm not one for playing crazy hardball with players but if he gives the same ol 4 teams you HAVE to say ok give us 10 in a year.
I would be fine with this too to get a haul back, but I would like them to get some other extensions on the books first - Marchenko can be extended in a week, Fantilli needs one, Sillinger - if Zach leaves do they stick around?

So this trade request from ZW may actually be doing Don a favor

My guess its damage control

If Z wants out its one phone call to his agent and the noise stops

I am not going to dive into Z speculation but I think this is the kind of thing that hurts us continually. We just stay pat and don't do a whole lot while others around us go balls to the wall.

I'm tired of Don. I want an analytically driven front office with better amateur scouting and development.

Fantilli I know is in the cold war with Bedard and Leo. A big Marchy extension would REALLY do well for this sub lol.

Coyle seemed to be pretty hyped about the plan. I really doubt Z had a change of heart that quickly. Something doesnt add up to me.

Sign Marchy trade for Larkin and stop the madness!

Critizing a GMs amateur scouting 2 drafts into the job is a choice for sure lol

Anyone who is a Pat Brisson client is dealing with being second fiddle to Larkin too - so that’s Greaves as well

I'm not sure about amateur scouting, but at this point I honestly wonder if we even have a pro scouting department. Why bother with one if you aren't going to make any trades?

They’re gonna stand side by side and announce the trade for Larkin with giant, crap eating grins on their faces…book it…

You know I remember at Johnny's memorial when Z said "thanks for choosing us when no one else would." And now it looks like you aren't choosing us like everyone else when we are in a better position than we were when Johnny signed. How about you live by your own words Z.
No one knows for sure what Z will be saying in this "meeting" nor what he will do next summer after we see the season's result. But Z has not said nor done anything that would suggest he isn't choosing CBJ.

Not just you, MissADD, half the board has Z elsewhere, based on a few talking heads' fantasies... if Z wants moved, he will say so. But he hasn't said so. I'm hoping for a Robertson trade/signing any minute for an acceptable give- then the board will reverse itself as to Z but then be worried that we gave up Voronkov, Smith, the 14thOA this year and whatever other asset it took.

EDIT: I will take the Larkin and the crap eating grins suggested by ICE9 also.
