By reading these comments you guys sure as shit need a reality check. Devils have a very weak roster, top to bottom, forwards, defense and net

Sadly I do agree with this. I have no idea how this roster is worth all that cap space lol

Wtf are you guys even arguing about???

They were bad defensively and got trash goaltending.

Why the need to fight about semantics???

We have the common denominator and it’s Lindy Bum Fluff. We have a nearly 3 year sample to pull from. Same shit, different year.

This is a talented group. A better coach gets more than whatever the hell last night was.

This is where I'm torn. Looking at the 5v5 stats, the Devils did get the better run of play: CF% of 67.8, SCF% of 66.7

Corsi is good and all, but anyone who watched the game can tell that the Devils didn't dominate the Flyers at all. A sloppy Graves or B. Smith shot into the logo is hardly worth anything but the loss of possession.

I try to watch at least 1 full game per day and extended highlights from the rest. And apart from few guys in our roster (Jack, Bratt..) there's a night and day difference between finishing ability and scoring chances when compared to other teams. Even in other bottom teams. Caufield and Suzuki put on a show against Toronto and looked extremely dangerous whenever they had the puck. McTavish and Zegras looked amazing in their season opener as well.

Watch these goals...Besides the PP goal from Konecny in the 3rd...The Defense is so atrocious it's not funny, I mean it is comically bad.

Graves is literally going the wrong way and not covering any man or space on two of the goals.

Two Flyers goals, Frost and Allision are literally standing on the doorstep by themselves with no Devil anywhere near them...I mean ZERO players within even a stick length...For Real...Might as well been playing 5 on 3.

Seriously, kill Blackwood all you want for that rebound but where in the hell is graves on that

The people in charge of filling out our staff, especially when it comes to player development, are clueless. Top to bottom, this organization is terrible and it shows every single time we go out on the ice and look like we did last night.

Defensive breakdowns happen, if your goalie can't save a muffin shot from the point then it's not gonna matter if you have prime Stevens, Lidstrom, Orr, Hedman, etc on your blue line.

They happen way too goddamn much with this team

“Hey it’s totally ok Ryan Graves loses his man constantly or that we have 2 defenseman on 1 guy behind the goal line every night”

I mean think about this. Everyone knows we can’t trust Blackwood. Right? Like even the players should know this.

Wouldn’t that make playing solid defense all the more of a priority? How do you excuse leaving the opposition a 6 foot clear radius in the circles and in front of the net as much as they do?

It’s absolutely bonkers that we have fans willing to overlook this shit.

If you want them to go play the way they did under Hynes where they played a decent defensive game and dumped the puck every time they gained center ice, be my guest. I've said it before that this team isn't built to win games like the Islanders, they don't have the goalie to trust in a low event hockey game. If they had Saros, Sorokin, Shesty or Vasi I would be fine with your argument but they don't generate enough or have a superstar winger to break a game for them yet.

Sabres and Stars fans warned us of this exact shit. It’s how Fluff runs his “system”.

I’d take Hynes over Ruff every single day

I mean his Buffalo teams had Ryan Miller which you could understand why he made Buffalo play uptempo with a top 5-10 goalie at the time. Stars had one of the worst duos in the league and it still somehow worked in 15-16. They both suck but Blackwood's the worse one if you put a gun to my head.

Lol, yeah I love losing 2-1 with 15 shots at net and Jack Hughes playing with guys like John Hayden. Delusional fanbase. Ruff stinks but let's not get carried away.

Hynes got way more from a worse roster than Ruff will ever get with ours

Also pretty sure Hynes made the playoffs here, and in Nashville while Ruff has this team in the basement with better talent.

Playing no offense hockey and playing responsible defensive hockey don’t have to go together.

For me, the Devils are built to have a passive/trapping defense trigger a counterattack offense, which can be quite successful.

Instead the Devils have the most active/engaging defense possible that they are poor at playing and difficulties creating offense beyond asking some supremely talented offensive players create something on the fly.

I wish we had DeBoer honestly...I think he's been our best coach since Lemaire.

I'd kill for DeBoer with this roster, he's gonna be great in Dallas.

Had a top 3 dmen, top 3 goalie, entire roster was shooting at 20% last year and they were still at the bubble. I'm sure that's sustainable, lmfao. I swear some of you don't watch the league outside of the Devils.

Pete is a very good coach, amazing some here still don’t like him as if what happened was somehow his fault. Guy gets results, plain and simple. He wouldn’t work for our team currently but I’d still take him over Ruff easily.

Hynes was as much of JAG coach you could ever have. Dude got out-coached multiple times when he was here. There was no reason to keep him around as long as they did. The problem is they replaced him with Lindy Ruff of all available options.

Kind of like getting rid of Lou only to replace him with Ray "I don't draft defensemen and just collect players at random" Shero.

Blackwood hasn’t been the same since he came in for Corey game 1 against the jets at the home opener. He’s stunk since blowing that lead

I would too, if anything because he would play the right goalie.

Hynes would have started Vanecek last night. Blackwood would not have played last night’s game under Hynes. Not after last two years and not after getting outplayed by Vanecek in the preseason.

I don’t think Hynes is a good coach, but he certainly almost always has played the right goalie. He let Kinkaid play over Schneider in 2018 when Schneider was struggling. Our playoff berth depended on that.

He allowed Schneider to take a back seat to Blackwood pretty early on. He allowed Blackwood to get into games when Kinkaid was doing terribly and Cory was injured/playing terribly also.

I don’t trust Ruff not to put Blackwood back in there on Tuesday if Vanecek allows more than 2 goals and we lose the game. Last night should have been enough to put Blackwood on the bench for a pretty long minute, especially after giving him the benefit of the doubt to play him in the opener and he embarrassed the f*** out of us.

If Vanecek plays well tomorrow and they still lose, we have more issues than net in that case. And yeah I'm not playing Blackwood unless it's a B2B or Vanecek is missing limbs.
