As much as people don't want to hear it, Ruff should take a look at the Rangers powerplay and try to mimic that. They made the Wild/MAF look like an AHL team yesterday. Basically tictactoe into a Kreider emptynet, don't think I've seen the Devils pp work that well since Kovy was here.

We need two righties on the PP. I don’t care who they are

I mean, you do care. I don't think we'd do so well rolling out a top PP unit with McLeod and Zetterlund on it.

But your point is well taken, the handedness of the PP guys does matter, and the way they're set up now doesn't make sense.

Honestly… we should have kept Hynes. He’s doing very well in Nashville.
Nashville was already doing pretty well before he got there....

I don't think he's a good head coach, but he DOES play the RIGHT goalie, which is something Ruff is not doing right now. It's also something that DeBoer has neglected to do in multiple stops, including here and it cost him his job in San Jose when he rode and died on Martin Jones.

This mess, force feeding us Blackwood, it wouldn't have happened last night if Hynes were the head coach here.

Need it to be Saturday already

Either the devils win and we all get some soothing relief, or we get to be even madder than we are right now and maybe I think about burning ruff in effigy

That’s a win win
Or more succinctly we'll either be off the ledge after Saturday or one day closer to Lindy getting shit-canned

By reading these comments you guys sure as shit need a reality check. Devils have a very weak roster, top to bottom, forwards, defense and net

It's not the PP - It's the players. If our exact PP had Panarin, Fox, Zibanejad and Kreider it wouldn't look like it does now.

Nah, Devils players only shoot when there is a 100% of it going in. They would just keep on passing

This is what we get for running our mouths about being a playoff/bubble team and being better than Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo and such. Embarrased and humbled. Almost everyone outside had us finishing at the bottom, while we in our homeristic bubble somehow think we can get 40 points more with adding Vanecek, Palat, Haula and B. Smith and getting rid of two assistant coaches (from which one was responsible for the only decent thing last season, the PK). Maybe it's impossible to get everyone (or most) to play up to their potential, or maybe we've overrated the potential of our players.

It's just one game, but it's still the same system and mostly same players. Everything looked terrible last night, offense, defence and goaltending. So unless this is a major wake up (shake up?) call, it doesn't look good. I'd lower the expectations and accept that we suck, until we don't (if and whenever that happens). I just hope we aren't out of it before christmas break.
I honestly don't look at any team in the entire league with the exception of Arizona and automatically think we're better. It's pathetic but it's true.

Wait what? Are you serious? I thought the board is solely responsible for getting Zacha and Smith traded and Johnsson waived :)
We were rooting for it.

It ultimately happened in the end but I would be hard-pressed to believe we had any impact on those two happening by whining about it here.

Yeah Hynes was way past expiration here, but he’s a better coach than Ruff is
Mr. Bean is a better coach than Ruff.

Oh stop.

Nothing we say here in this forum affects ANYTHING that happens with the team on the ice.
true

but it was very funny seeing people saying we've got one of the best right sides in the League. Dougie is a middle-of-the-pack top pairing dman that isn't good on his own zone, Severson and Marino are #4 and #5 at their very best. The blueline still sucks (Graves is trash and they signed a guy Rangers fan used to hate). Our coaching staff and GM are bottom of the league.

We're close to Bedard contention than playoffs.

As a neutral fan feels like the Devils having a bad start is the best thing that could happen to them. The sooner Ruff is gone the sooner they have a chance to actually do something.
The sooner this worthless, shit bag goalie stops getting placated and getting gifted starts also..... Which may not happen Ruff and all 10 remaining pieces of his hair are booted the f*** outta here.

@Bleedred

It’s not the easiest to stop but why is the the goalie focused on a low threat guy behind the net? He flubs his push off and the puck sails over the shoulder of a 6-4 goalie.

This goes hand in hand with the 2nd and 4th goal. Don’t go down into the butterfly haphazardly. He plays small. Outside of Ruff, keeping the goalie coach is my biggest gripe.

Every goalie plays like that these days. The guys that don't just aren't any good. And some of the guys that do (the trash pale in my avatar) still aren't good anyway.

I had a long reply last night typed up about the goalie coach and my shit froze up and I lost just about all of it, so I scrapped the remaining part of it and never posted.

I think Rogalski sucks and might have needed to go as bad as Recchi did, but I also don't know because we haven't had much NHL caliber goalies since he's been here. He can't be blamed for Gillies and Hammond performing poorly here. Dell was past his NHL expiration date by the time he got here, Wedgewood never showed NHL ability until last year and even then it was nothing special. Gillies is not, never has and never will be an NHL caliber goalie. Hammond was an NHL caliber goalie for about a year and that was 7 years ago and it was one of the flukiest goalie runs in the history of the game. Daws was clearly not NHL ready and never should have played in as many games here as he did.

Only Blackwood and Bernier could have been expected to be NHL caliber and Bernier only played 10 games here before he was shut down injured.

Vanecek looks to be NHL caliber (the organization almost seems like it's pretending that he isn't), so lets see how he performs before definitely blasting Rogalski, but it's not looking good right now. They shouldn't have tried fixing something that wasn't broken when they fired Melanson.
