Sure and even great defensive effort and the puck goes in the net. It happens.

But out problem is systemic. There’s no focus on awareness at the back, it’s all get it, get it out and push it up. Forwards are constantly flying the zone, and we give up on the late trailer more times than I can count. I do expect a goalie to make some saves on open chances but we’re hanging Skinner out to dry. I’d expect other goalies to have similar problems with this pourous D..
Except our d is literally NOT porous. We give up extremely few chances. How in the world is that porous.

We are an up tempo team, that plays a lot in the opposing zone. That will always tend to lead to the occasional big chance against. It’s the same reason guys with the puck the most have the most giveaways.

You remember every “porous” chance cause it ends up in the back of the net. Thats not so for other teams with good goaltending.

Tell that to the skinner poster collectors.

We apparently are only allowed to make 1-2 mistakes in a game. That's it. Don't ever expect your goalie to play great as a whole.
People act like other teams don’t make mistakes. Ours are just highlighted because they end up in the net more than half the time.

That pitiful 5 minute PP cost us the game. That was such a piss poor effort. At this rate Gulutzan may need to fall on the sword. The top unit needs something different because they have been ass.
The PP has been off since the start. Needs a tune-up because motivational speeches won’t work. Put in Brown for Nuge for starters. Give the players some structure besides “follow McD’s lead”.

First off...hopefully Nurse is okay. Very dirty hit by Reeves...suspension is in order here.

Secondly...Bouchard was completely at fault on the 2nd goal. Just an absolutely brutal play.
Then on the 3rd Leafs goal his lazy c'est la vie skating to get back on defence was brutal to watch.
Such a shame because the team was playing such a solid 3rd periord and then Bouchard happened.

Then in O/T Marner has a perfect shot off the post to win it.

Of all goals on Skinner MAYBE the 2nd goal was stoppable...maybe.
Still Bouchard just cant be that stupid with the puck. He wears the goat horns on this night.

On to Montreal.
That was only a "perfect" shot.

Because Skinner sucks and has no clue how to play the position

And frankly I’m sick of using “entry denial” and winning the shot counter as an excuse to absolve poor defense.
Sorry Russ but this just isn't accurate. The Oilers were really getting a game rolling where they're hardly giving up anything and frustrating opponents by getting zone outs constantly. not allowing teams to establish in our zone. Leafs had hardly anything for first 50mins of this game and the Oilers have badly outplayed opposition last 4 games. Really felt they were getting that game going. Very reminiscent play to what had success last year.

There’s no excuse for that Bouchard turnover, none. That’s what is called an AHL pass. And then given an opportunity to make up for it he completely dogs a back check. No team plays perfect but efforts like that are completely unacceptable.

So yeah again with this all ahead full and let Fuhr bail them out at the back nonsense.

Some game situations call for that, but now it’s 3 games in a row blowing a lead, maybe just maybe you tighten up at the back late.

I don’t think you watch enough NHL hockey this year.

Every team plays like this; most are even worse.

Not every goalie has these issues; most don’t.

They had a chance to put the game away in the first with a 5 min pp and got two shots. Just awful.

Fun fact for anyone knocking skinner. We’ve allowed 18 goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation this season. Most in the NHL. Some of that is goaltending sure but when it’s at the same point of the game that’s a game management issue. Perfect example tonight.
