After Kopitar's goal it was completely obvious that the Kings had to make a line change or call a timeout. Instead Stevens sends out a bunch of players that are completely gassed. They had no chance at all. That's why they couldn't do anything in the last minute. I don't care how good you are, you're going to be ineffective playing what essentially amounts to 3 straight shifts.

I'm not blaming the game on him, but that was complete mismanagement by the coach.

Also, the Kings probably need to change their philosophy on player utilization from 2-way play to specialization.

Yeah the key guys played 5 of the last 6 minutes. Even for a freak like Drew that's asking for trouble. Meanwhile VGK made three changes.

If Blake does what he should though, this shouldn't be a dull six months
Eh, the draft is fun for some people (not me because I don't follow prospects) and free agency will be fun for a few days but for the most part the second half of July-September nothing happens. Of course people can still watch the playoffs going on until mid June but I don't really have a desire to. Maybe here and there if there's a game 7 but I don't have much interest. That Doughty suspension really just soured my mood on the NHL this year.
Yeah I wasn't upset with game 2, that was every heart out on the ice. Kind of wish that was the series-ending game.

Tonight was a dirty loss because this team is supposed to be KILLER In the third period.
Kings played about as well as they could tonight too. Just couldn't score another goal or two to put it away. Can't fault their heart in this series. They just don't have the extra gear required to win in the playoffs. Really sucks they're wasting another year though, one in which Koptiar is a Hart candidate, Doughty a Norris candidate, Brown and Muzzin had really good years, and Quick is playing at levels we haven't seen in a long time.

Bingo.

An area where the Kings are waaaaaaay behind the curve.

But again it’s going to take some time to not only change the broken roster but to also fix the broken culture.

I was at the game tonight sitting next to Vegas fans of course. (They weren’t that bad)

I could feel the game turning with each big Fluery save.

Kings PP is so stagnant. Killed em this post season.

Kings are done. Possibly swept unfortunately.

No, it wasn't a heart issue, but an execution issue, but I guess what I'm saying is a team taking a lead into the 3rd that prides themselves on their D getting lit up in the 3rd completely losing their identity leaves a much more bitter taste than gutting to 2OT before losing.

I also agree, the Doughty suspension followed by watching Kopitar getting plugged in the head repeatedly without even a look/review has turned me off a lot. And it looks like all the teams with divers/rats are the ones that are going to be going deep. I'm not sure I can stomach another pittsburgh/nashville meeting, so many gutless pukes out there, best I can hope for is they just take turns embarassing the league with european soccer dives and hit and run bullshit behind refs.

Nothing is changing this offseason, it'll be more of the same (and Blake has been great so far given the hand he was dealt). Luc is going to package this season as some BS like a "growth year" or some nonsense. "Hey, we made the playoffs, we're turning the ship, blah blah blah," which we all know is bollocks. No players will be traded, all we'll get is some fringe signings that'll be traded or demoted by November.

Yeah, I definitely agree with the first part. Best third period team in the NHL. Best defensive team in the NHL. Three mistakes and the puck was in the back of the net and the game was over. All happened really fast. This team wasn't 2012 automatic level of winning games when leading after 2 periods but they were still damn good. Don't know the exact record but I'd bet less than 5 losses when going into the 3rd with the lead.

If he manages to trade Carter and Toffoli and signs Tavares... why not.

Pull a Boston.
Kings have a major depth issue though. Kopitar, Tavares, and Doughty making $30+ million by themselves isn't going to work unless they manage to find a lot of <$2 million players that can score.

I dunno man, Blake seems really good at emotionless decision making.

Had zero problem bringing Cammalleri back...then promptly turfing him to Edmonton

Gaborik had some emotional ties here, and he goes out and moves him for a character player.

Not saying you're wrong, but I don't think it would be because of Blake.

Not much is going to change. They'll give Pearson and Toffoli another year. Maybe they let go of some bottom guys or move them for picks. The biggest move that could happen is Stevens, but I wouldn't be surprised if he sticks around. Fact is, this team never moves the earth and in a cap world, it doesn't happen for anyone.

Specialization is more efficient. It's a principle that applies to all things.

Good team defense comes primarily from systemic structure, while offense comes from individual skill.

That's why it makes more sense to have your best offensive players focus on scoring, instead of making them expend energy killing penalties and giving them D-zone starts. You can have your best scorers carry the defensive burden when they're young, but it doesn't work as well as they age. That's one of the reasons why the Kings have looked so slow/tired the last 3 years. Tonight was just another example. As the game went on our top guys started wearing out, and that's why we lost.

place felt like it wanted to pop then those 2 goals just killed it, people were walking out the doors immediately..

never felt so let down by this team before. i'm sitting there believing they can make it happen then they just completely shit the bed..

Complete shame. Sort of like Games 1 and 2 in terms of wasted opportunities, but we actually played a really good game overall.

Doesn't make a difference in the end, just frustrating.

yeah i mean they had a chance tonight, that's what hurts. it wasn't just ramming your head into a brick wall like games 1 and 2, they were making things happen at times. then one lapse leads to another lapse and game over. i'm one of kopi's biggest fans and i could barely bring myself to applaud for his goal. you just knew it wasn't gonna happen.

The best upgrade will just be adding Vilardi. The most talented forward drafted since Koiptar. That 70's line is done and Vilardi will C line 2. Maybe Carter plays RW on that line, or RW on Kopitar's line.
Hard to know what impact Brickley can make; no matter. Offense is the problem. I thought Turgeon was supposed to work wonders. I have not heard his
name in months. Is he still on staff? I believe Kempe will make a greater impact, but he needs more than 13 minutes of ice. He creates chances every shift
and that's with Rieder / Lewis / Clifford. I still have hopes that Ladue can play. Outside shots to Clague and JAD to make the team. Speed and skill.
Yes, 85% chance JAD goes to juniors, but don't be shocked if he makes it. He can play. 100 pts (91 reg season + 9 playoffs) in WHL at age 18 is impressive
and Yamamoto missed a huge chunk of season there. Hopes for Brodzinski and Amadio as well. I had little faith in Blake a year ago, but more now.
Good draft, good signings, good trades so far. Bonus for signing Strand, Petersen Kehler and Brickley...not to mention Iafallo and Fantenbreg.

They never could get that 2nd goal, even with with 5 pp ops. Starting the 3rd on the pp, there just wasn't that urgency to score, they lack the killer instinct to just go for it.

never seen such a stationary PP.. just no movement at all. like, do they think the pucks just gonna slide itself into the net? 1st unit sitting on their laurels then the 2nd unit couldn't even go tape to tape, much less enter the zone. depressing to watch.
