I'll be saving all the pro Kotkaniemi posts for a later date.

Either way, it'll be a win-win for me. He'll either turn out great for the team, which is great, or he'll turn out to be a bust like I though(still do), and I'll be able to laugh at those who thought otherwise....

Either way, good luck in Montreal, kid.

You're gonna need it.

One wonders how badly Zadina is gonna be biting us in the arse over the years.....??

Who says he wasn’t BPA?

Really? Go back one year then go back 6 months, 3 months finally last month? Last month read the top 5 - 10 prospect sites & “experts”......if you’re objective & honest you’ll find that our pick was not on the MAJORITY of top 5 lists.

Come on man!

Now, I'll have to learn to write his name in posts. At least, Saku was easy to remember. I'm old man, stop with these Scrabble names. (BTW, how many points would his name bring up?)

And he'll be right. The day you draft Kot is the day you decide to rebuild (unless he is more ready than we think). Vets should be traded if Kot appears to be a project at the next camp and if they are not MB should be heavily criticized for it.
I don't understand the logic of this post...

Putting the entire fate of an organization based on how a player drafted not even 24hrs ago looks like at training camp.

am I the only one who can't stop thinking of this guy because of his first name?

So Nolan Patrick was best player in draft last year? He was ranked that way until last rank...

If you go back through those older lists you'll see him rising every time a new list comes out. On draft day the majority of experts no doubt had him in the top-5 which is why McKenzie's list had him top-5 because it's an average based on polling the experts.

Well, I’ve said it many times but independent scouting sites, armchair scouts on Reddit and forums, fans in general all have their own opinions. Clearly, based on Bob’s list, the majority of scouts had Kotkaniemi in the top-5.

The question is then, is Shane Churla, Timmons, Bergevin and the team’s scouting staff’s opinion and understanding of their own team more or less important than the opinions of everyone else?

FWIW, I didn’t/don’t have Kotkaniemi in my top-5 either, like most “experts” but I don’t think this is a terrible pick at all. I know I expressed a lack enthusiasm, but that is because anyone not named Dahlin or Svechnikov was going to be a bummer for me.

While I had others I preferred over Kotkaniemi, I would have taken him before Tkachuk and Zadina anyways,

There are posters here who live in North America and have watched quite a few games. And I know they watched games because they've been posting in the draft thread all year long. This poster however has not made a post all year long and then once the draft goes down he's watched 40-60 games.

I am not a fan of any specific NHL team and only interested in how are boys are doing over seas. Montreal has been a meh-team to me since Koivu left.
I’m not here to troll but only stating my own opinion about Kotkaniemi. I still think you made a terrible choise in aquiring him. At the same time I must admit that I am not that familiar with the other players in this draftclass besides Dahlin and the Finns. This might be a terrible draftclass and Kotkaniemi the BPA.

But I don’t see how he would ever develop to be a difference maker in the NHL or a top6 forward. And what makes it even worse is that his dad (who is not exactly the sharpest knife in the toolbox, not to mention At top ost a mediocer coach) will be coaching him next season.... In a team that is in a mess at the moment and their roster is one of the absolutely worst there is in the FEL.

Anyhoo, I really do hope I’m dead wrong about Kotkaniemi but there is nothing that supports that currently

Please?? You’re sounding like Fox News man. Facts matter.
If we are going to start to falsely justify your position by pulling obscure picks out from years ago, this only supports the weakness of your argument. You’re better than that.....I like Kot but you’re missing the point of my post.

If you don't understand we should rebuild there's not much i can say ...
That's not what you said...

You said the team should look to rebuild if Kotkaniemi comes to camp and he shows that he'd he's a project.

Sorry, but that makes no sense.

Why should the ultimate direction of this franchise be about where a player just drafted, is at in his development???

Years ago? It’s last year.

For what it’s worth I’m sure Kot is overvalued in a year where top Cs weren’t overly present.

Yet we saw many teams skip on Zadina, we saw Arizona go after a C at 5.

Even if kot was ranked 5(per mckenzies scout list) and we got him at 3, the margin between 3-12 wasn’t seen as dramatic.

We filled a need and got a position of higher value for trade value reasons(If ever years from now)

Listen my original post was a casual answer to a post saying McGuire would be wrong to complain about MB lack of vision for drafting a player not ready while still desperately trying to win now. It was not a thoughtful post. It was a Saturday morning hangover with coffee after a shower kind of post.

Of course at 3rd overall you draft BPA ready or not. But the fact remains our situation sucks. Our team is getting older. Our team is bad. We have an awful prospect pool (even with Kot) and sadly our 3rd overall pick doesn't look like someone who will be ready soon. So imo complaining about MB lack of vision for trying to win now while not trying to win now and doing tons of ridiculous moves is not wrong at all. It's what everyone should do.

We are not there anymore. And more than likely no players available at 3rd overall this year was going to change that. If Patch and Byron start the season in Montreal MB is a moron. Trade them this summer. Don't take the risk to be a bubble team at the deadline and put yourself in a position where you are not able to trade them and lose them for nothing or sign them to a bad contract. Honestly they both should have been traded at the last deadline for picks this year.

No, you have no idea of Galchenyuk's mental state. At all. I've seen your posts around here. You're just a management defender, that's all.

You think that listening to L'EchoChambre gives you any insight? It doesn't .

Go do something else with your time, I don't care.
