I always expected him to be in the early prime MacKinnon range, but that ship looks to have sailed with Wright. Franchise for sure, people overuse generational, although Wright's D-2 was on par with McDavid's. Losing a year of development and lack of consistent year over year growth has hampered him
I played competitive hockey for 15 years. Got pretty good at it. For me, the franchise players need to have elite physical tools. Things that set them apart from the rest of us.
McDavid and MacKinnon with the size, power and skating ability. Throw Matthews into that too. Maybe Barkov as well. Jack Hughes skates so dang beautifully, as does Bedard. Eichel has amazing movement skills. Good size. All of them have insane hands.
Makar does this play where he retrieves the puck and starts skating backwards to his right. Crossing over again and again to generate acceleration while dangling the puck on his stick beautifully. Going backwards. Then he flips his hips back and he’s suddenly moving forward in attack with insane acceleration into weaving thru a defense still dangling the puck. It’s incredible to watch. Franchise players.
Now ask yourself - What does Shane Wright do or bring that’s incredible? He seems like a solid 2W as his ceiling.
