No need to be insulting. It doesn't make your point stronger. And this will be the 4th year in a row with a top 7 pick - barring an unexpected surge these last few months.Right but it didn't take 18 years, did it? They made the playoffs in McDavid's second season, had a couple bubble/mid seasons where they missed and then have been in the playoffs for what is about to be the 6th consecutive year. The only player drafted from that string of consecutive 1st overall picks that's even there anymore is RNH.
And the Oilers did things that were dumb during their rebuild too. Constantly cycling through coaches, GMs, etc. Making bad trades. But you get a couple of uber elite talents from the draft and it doesn't even matter.
You've done it twice now and I get it, you think it helps your point, but conflating a top-3 pick with a 1st round pick in any other part of the round is moronic. You get that right? Most of those 1st round picks have been in the back half of the 1st round. You're not getting, generally speaking, elite talent in the back-half of the 1st round. It can and does happen, but your chances dwindle dramatically as the 1st round goes on. Hell, your chances of getting a franchise-altering player drops dramatically ususally at pick number 2 most years.
Top-3 picks = Bedard, Levshunov
Top-10 picks = Korchinski
Top-15 picks = Nazar
Everyone else was selected in the back-half of the 1st round.
So yeah, I'd say pinning your rebuild on Bedard and Levshunov, while hoping a bunch of other very good prospects pop off into the elite category is actually taking a bucket of shit and throwing it against the wall hoping something sticks. I like a lot of the kids Davidson's drafted. But in the ranges they were drafted, they were never projected to be stars. You need stars to contend.
Agree, though I don't know what point you're trying to make.Edmonton has been a consistent good team since 2019-20 which is ten years after picking Hall first. And they made so many mistakes along the way that delayed their timeline. And have still been a consistent and very real Stanley Cup threat for four straight seasons.

And Edmonton lucked in to McDavid, which no other rebuilding team will have the benefit of.
You seem angry. It's not moronic to conflate a 1st overall pick with a 25th, or 27th?
Oh no, not four straight years of top-7 picks! When will the rebuild ever end??
You seem angry.
This is how first round picks work. Sometimes they are high. Sometimes they are low. Sometimes they are in the middle. That's what you build teams from. Frank Nazar looks darm good and he came in at 13. Sam Rinzel looks like he could be a nice one from #25.
That is ultimately my point. I'm not arguing to trade any picks away. They'll continue to have first round picks even if they aren't top 3. And they might just hit something big at #8 or #11 or #17 or whatever.
lil fella? Ok have a good day man
I go out of my way to avoid that poster, most of their posts are completely dick ish and for no reason.
But I agree with most of what you said. Barring a lottery advancement, I hope this is the last year I hope we are picking top 3 for a long time. I hope we get a real coach, an UFA or two, and natural progression from current young guys on the NHL rosters and more joining the club next year. I think that should be enough to at least see some small progress out of the basement.
Still towards the bottom, but you can’t go another season expecting to compete for dead last with San Jose. Need to start seeing some progress real soon. If not it should cost KD his job.
He mentioned that because you tried saying the Oilers had an 18 year rebuild going back to 2007, a year after they were in the finalsNo need to be insulting. It doesn't make your point stronger. And this will be the 4th year in a row with a top 7 pick - barring an unexpected surge these last few months.

If they don't sign a major UFA and get a real coach then yes I agree. Are any of Shaefer, Misa, or Hagens expected to be day 1 impact players?More than likely, this team is picking top 3 again next year. Hate to break it to you.
I think they are even if they do. Top 5 at least. If they don't sign a major UFA and get a real coach then yes I agree. Are any of Shaefer, Misa, or Hagens expected to be day 1 impact players?

imagine thinking this is a bad thing, they don't have enough close to certain top 6 forwards in the system, two top 3 picks to address that problem will do wonders for the rebuild, then they have another 1st and 7 2nds to keep adding to that group and probably more with players like donato likely moved for something decentMore than likely, this team is picking top 3 again next year. Hate to break it to you.
Im not so sure about that. outside of the anomaly draft lottery win I think they might just finish better than 3rd worst in the league next year.More than likely, this team is picking top 3 again next year. Hate to break it to you.
The Jones trade was awful and set us back assets, but I think it's probably not discussed enough how bad our rebuild starting on the doorstep of the pandemic was. It's not a coincidence that a lot of teams that started rebuilding at the same time are still deep in there like San Jose, Anaheim, or Buffalo (although there goes way back). The bust rate from those 18-22 classes is trending to look high compared to the historic number. Feels like most of the superstars right now were picked between 2013-17 but since then it's been the Hughes brothers and arguably Dahlin in terms of guys who aren't in their first year or two. Feels like the teams that got out from that time were either lucky enough to have a Hughes brother or got pulled up from the rebuild by a veteran group like the Rangers and Kings. The Hawks wasted so much time 2017-18 through 2020-21, basically four seasons when they needed to rebuild but were chasing mediocrity. In a perfect world, Bedard comes at the end of a rebuild
Rebuild ends when you start trying to get in to playoffs? It's not moronic to conflate a 1st overall pick with a 25th, or 27th?

Still waiting to hear how did Edmonton have an 18 year rebuild (which ran from 2007-this season by your math)Rebuild ends when you start trying to get in to playoffs?
You're discerning my emotional state through a post on a forum? That's quite a skill.
I know how the first round works lil fella. Do you need the statistics that shows the likelihood of NHL success based on draft position? It seems like you do. Should I post it here for you? Could be valuable information for you. Because the likelihood of your "could" at 8, 11, or 17 varies wildly and they're sharply down from the could that comes with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc... in such range the Blackhawks have only made two picks since their rebuild began and that you feel like is dragging on too long I gather.
The higher the pick the more opportunity which skews games played stats but the best players still overwhelmingly come from the tank spots of a draft.Draft position largely means opportunity. When production is poor, poor defensively, etc, a team will still put you out there year after year on the chance that you get it together simply due to that draft pedigree. That certainly skews the numbers. If taken in the 3rd round I'm not sure how much of a leash guys like Dylan Strome or Kirby Dach or Jokiharju would get.
In a 6 year period when the Hawks were winning cups and had nothing for draft capitol they managed to draft Kevin Hayes, Phillip Danault, Brandon Saad, Teuvo Teravainen, Ryan Hartman and Alex Debrincat. Not elite players, but very good NHL'ers. It averaged out to about 1 good pick per draft.
Now they have triple the draft capitol in the first few rounds and with that a chance to possibly build a very deep young roster. If they can't get top heavy maybe they can build a great top 4 D with a more talented middle 6 forward group. There's numerous ways to build a great team.
The difference being is that if Debrincat and Dach were on the roster we almost certainly don't end up with Bedard. We had DeBrincat and Dach drafted and Strome traded and we sold them to away before we ended up nothing.

Dach is such a zero I doubt he effects that, which is on the flip side why its a plus he got moved. Even just for on current play I'd already prefer Nazar. The difference being is that if Debrincat and Dach were on the roster we almost certainly don't end up with Bedard.
At the end of the day, other recent superstars joined rosters with significantly more offensive talent.
