Right but it didn't take 18 years, did it? They made the playoffs in McDavid's second season, had a couple bubble/mid seasons where they missed and then have been in the playoffs for what is about to be the 6th consecutive year. The only player drafted from that string of consecutive 1st overall picks that's even there anymore is RNH.

And the Oilers did things that were dumb during their rebuild too. Constantly cycling through coaches, GMs, etc. Making bad trades. But you get a couple of uber elite talents from the draft and it doesn't even matter.

You've done it twice now and I get it, you think it helps your point, but conflating a top-3 pick with a 1st round pick in any other part of the round is moronic. You get that right? Most of those 1st round picks have been in the back half of the 1st round. You're not getting, generally speaking, elite talent in the back-half of the 1st round. It can and does happen, but your chances dwindle dramatically as the 1st round goes on. Hell, your chances of getting a franchise-altering player drops dramatically ususally at pick number 2 most years.

Top-3 picks = Bedard, Levshunov
Top-10 picks = Korchinski
Top-15 picks = Nazar

Everyone else was selected in the back-half of the 1st round.

So yeah, I'd say pinning your rebuild on Bedard and Levshunov, while hoping a bunch of other very good prospects pop off into the elite category is actually taking a bucket of shit and throwing it against the wall hoping something sticks. I like a lot of the kids Davidson's drafted. But in the ranges they were drafted, they were never projected to be stars. You need stars to contend.
No need to be insulting. It doesn't make your point stronger. And this will be the 4th year in a row with a top 7 pick - barring an unexpected surge these last few months.

Edmonton has been a consistent good team since 2019-20 which is ten years after picking Hall first. And they made so many mistakes along the way that delayed their timeline. And have still been a consistent and very real Stanley Cup threat for four straight seasons.
Agree, though I don't know what point you're trying to make.

And Edmonton lucked in to McDavid, which no other rebuilding team will have the benefit of.

It's not moronic to conflate a 1st overall pick with a 25th, or 27th?

Oh no, not four straight years of top-7 picks! When will the rebuild ever end??

You seem angry.

This is how first round picks work. Sometimes they are high. Sometimes they are low. Sometimes they are in the middle. That's what you build teams from. Frank Nazar looks darm good and he came in at 13. Sam Rinzel looks like he could be a nice one from #25.

That is ultimately my point. I'm not arguing to trade any picks away. They'll continue to have first round picks even if they aren't top 3. And they might just hit something big at #8 or #11 or #17 or whatever.

You're discerning my emotional state through a post on a forum? That's quite a skill.

I know how the first round works lil fella. Do you need the statistics that shows the likelihood of NHL success based on draft position? It seems like you do. Should I post it here for you? Could be valuable information for you. Because the likelihood of your "could" at 8, 11, or 17 varies wildly and they're sharply down from the could that comes with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc... in such range the Blackhawks have only made two picks since their rebuild began and that you feel like is dragging on too long I gather.

lil fella? Ok have a good day man

I go out of my way to avoid that poster, most of their posts are completely dick ish and for no reason.

But I agree with most of what you said. Barring a lottery advancement, I hope this is the last year I hope we are picking top 3 for a long time. I hope we get a real coach, an UFA or two, and natural progression from current young guys on the NHL rosters and more joining the club next year. I think that should be enough to at least see some small progress out of the basement.

Still towards the bottom, but you can’t go another season expecting to compete for dead last with San Jose. Need to start seeing some progress real soon. If not it should cost KD his job.

You think most of my posts are dickish? If he's going to condescend to me, I'm going to call him lil fella. Those are the rules.
