Third period was bad but it wasn't disaster-bad. The Sabres have a ton of talent and they're not gonna roll over for 60 straight minutes. It's been a good stress test of Keefe's system with a ton of new players in the lineup.

Meier and Jack have no chemistry at all. Doesn't seem like Meier ever knows what Jack's gunna do or where to be (and this is not just a this season thing)

For a first look at the Keefe system there’s a lot to like. Certainly things to work on but down 2 big pieces on the back end they did well. Buffalo is explosive offensively and they held them in check

They kept it simple and caused turnovers which led to goals.

Non of this run and gun and fire wagon it to a 5-4 win or loss

Exactly what I wanted out of game 1. Team looked pretty good, got out to a big lead, didn't give it up and didn't have to work too hard.

They definitely took their foot off the gas in the third, but it's game 1, in a foreign country, with a truncated preseason. I'm not gonna be mad.
