I think I just experienced my first earthquake. Building shook for 10-12 seconds (seemed longer though)

Sister texted me from her workplace, her building shook for over 1 minute

:eek2:
Yes! I was just jumping on to see if you guys felt it.

A few years ago, I was sitting on the couch (watching a Bs game i think) and the floor shook. I thought maybe my furnace did a bad thing. I went to the basement and all looked OK. I then heard there was a quake out of Maine.

What are everyone's eclipse plans?

I am about an hour south of totality. We are going to try and drive north, we shall see.
I have to pick up my son at his day program during that time. I'm terrified that I'm going to get hit by someone staring at the sky while driving.

My son is autistic and hates rain, I'm curious to see his reaction.

i've yet to meet an autistic individual who doesn't strike me as an exceedingly kind human being

Yes and the same applies to people with Down syndrome. They are a gift to this world, they show so much love and compassion.
I was a senior planner (materials and capacity) for a large manufacturing company. There was a group of people with various levels of mental disabilities who worked on projects. Many of the jobs were simple (like bending wires on components) but some were more complex. They worked in one area and were supervised by someone who understands their abilities and needs. They worked from 8 am until 1 pm and were paid. This was a big help to these folks and their families....but they were a big help to the company also. Some called them the "kids" even though they were not children.

I miss this group so much since I retired. If I was having a bad day, I would stop in to see them. They gave me a teddy bear and a card (that they all signed) when I retired. It was a small part of the many groups I planned for, but I really enjoyed them. Many were Bruins fans.

One guy (Jimmy) was watching a game years ago when they did the "shirts off the backs". I got Petteri Nokelainen's. I took the jersey home, washed it and brought it to work. Jimmy was waiting for me. He was so excited he said " I saw you on TV" He tried on the jersey and thought it looked pretty good on himself. :). People could learn important things from these folks.

Absolutely spot on. The pure kindness they share is something you never forget.

I grew up in Vermont and would love to see it up there, but traffic is going to be a zoo, especially with the forecast for sunny skies. I will just stay here in Newton and watch it through a peephole and experience the partial effect. Even the eclipse that passed through South Carolina in 2017 noticeably darkened the sky up here.
