Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers
WCSF

***Mod notes***

We understand this will be an intense series filled with emotions. We ask that you refrain from personal attacks towards others members, fans, and cities.

If you feel someone is baiting or trolling you, please report it rather than reply. Thank you.

These Canucks have nothing to lose, no one expected them in the second round this early in their rebuild, as their roster it's not built for the playoffs yet. As long as they play lose and stick to their system and use their heavy forecheck effectively, and if they get to a game 6 with Demko in net, they have more than a good chance to upset a heavy favorite.

This is all a bonus for the fans from here on out. Go Canucks go.
Excuse me? They've been rebuilding for 9 years.

WTF is up with this Wednesday night (Thursday, my time) game one date??

Why isn't it starting, like, tomorrow? A whole week between round one and two for Edmonton seems ridiculously long.

When I was a kid, it was always the case that if you went 7 games and won, you'd have one day off (basically, a travel day only) before the next series. That's how it should be, so that the teams that go longer get punished for taking longer to advance.

Damn, this is seriously bad news for EP and his usual antics.

Oh well, I’m looking forward to a well ref’d series!
EP and this diving thing oilers have is silly. The guy was a twig when he came in the league and was easily knocked over, he's never once been called or called out for diving.

#97 and his neanderthal face looking at the refs a 100 times a game is definitely a thing.

Canucks can't start on Monday because of a concert. Stars can't start on Wednesday because of a concert. What else do you want them to do, other than run both Western series on the same night?
Yes run them the same night, I don’t get this obsession with having them different nights and then starting this series so late in the evening out east that nobody bothers to watch anyways. Oh well, not that huge of a deal, it’s only one night, that won’t be what the difference is in the series no matter who wins.

Rogers Arena is booked for Pearl Jam. Great show on Saturday and they’re back on Monday. There’s more going on than just hockey.

Surprised they’re playing two shows in Vancouver, with a one night break (needing pay for three days) rather than taking a travel day to Alberta but that’s how it goes.

going to PJ Tonight! My wife said they needed a one night break because they are old and get tired more easily

Why this series doesn't start on Tuesday is what is confusing...

Your wife is right. When Eddie was slapping his chest on Friday I thought he might be having a jammer.

The Wednesday over Tuesday is known.m and is the same reason the Canucks home games vs the Leafs start at 4 pm local. TV ratings rule over sporting factors.

I'm pretty sure that neither the Canucks nor the Oilers will be the favorites against either the Av's or the Stars.

But hopefully Dallas and Colorado pound each other into submission in a long series. Certainly their travel between games will be a lot tougher. For once the NHL's Western Canadian teams catch a break.

Despite all this fun back and forth between fanbases here, I just hope the teams show up and play each other hard.
Give us a great show, lot of hitting, lot of forechecking, give us something to talk about here.

Worst thing would be a bunch of 2-1, 3-2 games with no physicality.

Truth

I hope Vancouver wins but I also hope whoever wins the series will win the cup. Canada has waited long enough!
It has been a rule of mine for a long time, whoever beats my own team, I root against them. I will only root for any Canadian team that didn't play against the Canucks in the same playoffs. I didn't root for the Flames in 2004. If the Oilers beat the Canucks, I root against the Oilers, no matter what. I'm sure that the Oilers fan will feel the same.
