Why are you guys acting like the Canucks are a very young team?
All your top players have been in the league for 6+ seasons.
Last time I checked, isn't the Canucks roster around the middle of the pack when it comes to age?
this is the first year they are in playoffs after 9 years away, so they are early in their rebuild, the window to contend was supposed to creak open next year.
This year's expectation is to fight for a playoff spot, from management to fans.
The age of the core is not old, 12th youngest someone said. There's still decent amount of time for them to be a contender. The team was mismanaged by a person-that-shall-never-be-named, so the rebuild was delayed. Edm should know something about this, same reason why it took Mcdavid 9 years to have a contending team.
Clobbering the Oilers in regular season was one thing, they were expected to do well in regular season, but the current iteration of the team is thin, its not a roster built for a long playoff run. Team is missing its Vezina candidate, and on the third string goalie, and has little playoff experience to top it off. All these factors lead to a lower expectation for the team from everyone's point of view, its not cup or bust here, its at the gain experience stage.
There is no denying that they overachieved so far, from taking the division from the Oilers, to being in the second round. And if they overcome the odds lol and advance, then it'll be fun to see what that means for the other team. See Boston V Toronto.
