Agree with everything except the boldfaced--in the last two games Kings have had good starts only to get crushed by a counterattack/break. Remember the gaborik chance in the previous game, or the pressure our opening line applied last night. Who knows how different those games look if we actually pot the opening goal? The real problem is we haven't played with a lead enough to find out.

Very true.

I'm not going to get into specific players but we all know who is playing well and who isn't. This summer is going to be interesting and will dictate how the next few years go. I am deathly afraid of becoming the Sutter-era Flames where he rode a great goalie and a defensive, gritty system to playoff berths every year but also seemed to decline each year while not developing young players. Decisions need to be made because, if they lose this series, that will be another season where this team has taken a step back. I know making the 2nd round as a Kings fan is like Christmas prior to 2012 but, well, 2012 happened and blowing a 2-0 series lead to the Ducks after winning the first two in their building is unacceptable.

Sutter isn't the GM like he was in Calgary. I know Lombardi and Sutter share a brain or whatever, but the Kings introduce younger players into the roster every year. That's one thing Lombardi preaches about. It may take longer than some people like, it may not happen on the first day of training camp, but it happens. When they play well, Sutter plays them. Does Sutter lean on veterans? Give them more slack? Yeah, but there aren't many coaches that don't.

Yuck, Steve Ott. Do not want, especially on the third line. Would rather keep Stoll there if that's the option. No offense intended.

Will take a stab at this over lunch.

Does that mean Stoll for Coburn? The Flyers have too many centers as it is.

^ Not necessarily. But I believe Coburn would be a relatively inexpensive option. Certainly WAY less the Ehrhoff.

Bottom six lacks nastiness. Especially when King is a winger. Plus he'll equal Stoll's point production.

Oh look, Silicone Valley is on. Even worse than I remember.
This needs to be addressed.

HA, I was wondering when someone would feel the wedgie and respond.

Funny story - last night I'm in bed and searching channels. I noticed that was on. Through my Xbox One, the thumbnail for it was small enough that I thought the lead guy was actually a girl. I watched almost the entire episode waiting for ANYTHING to save it - maybe the girl in the thumbnail? Turns out there were no girls, it was the lead guy. What a joke.

lol, I knew you were looking for a fight last night so I made you wait. I just had to use that awesome gif.

Were you fired from that writing room? Your hatred feels personal. Haha

I think with Reggie and Mitchell playing we'd still be losing. The issue is Anaheims speed is killing us. Reggie is slow and so is Mitchell.

Kings need to get a major fface lift on defense next year, and destroy the bottom 6. Clifford is ****, Nolan is ****, Lewis is crappy, Dwight King is a gigantic pillow.

And they need to ship Mike Richards and his terrible contract need to Greenland. No body should pay 6 million for a borderline fourth liner.

Use that extra moola to help the team.

And maybe get a top 6 center too.

I still stand by this statement - I didn't even smirk. Not once.

And I love King of the Hill!

Trading Richards would directly allow us to re-sign Gaborik. Almost across the board.

It is personal! RP doesn't like watching junk. First I had to watch that Kings game and then HBO hits me with the double whammy. It hurts man.

Someone would. I guarantee it.

I usually don't do these, but here is my shot at armchair coaching:

Brown-Kopitar-Williams (Maybe their last hurrah as maybe Williams is gone next season. Why not go with this line as it had statistically dominated puck possession the last 3 years? They probably have one last ounce of gas in them that can hopefully spark a fire!)

Richards-Carter-Gaborik (The BFF duo + Carter/Gaborik chemistry they shared on the 4 on 4. Hopefully they can do something. Plus, Gaborik moves to RW where he had always been playing. Think he hot now? He may melt through the ice on RW!)

Pearson-Vey-Toffoli (The White Line. Nothing more to be said. See Getzlaf/Perry chemistry. They just know where each other is going and what eachother is going to do.)

Stoll-Andreoff-Lewis (King has been trash. Nolan has been trash. Clifford has been trash. So, these three may even be the better choice. Addition by subtraction times 3. All three can play center. Stoll/Lewis can take center responsibilities if need be. Of course Stoll will be out there for all important faceoffs.)

All in all our forward line need to play fast and hard hitting, but don't go with the premise of wearing and grinding the Dux down. It's too late for that and they are too deep with personnel. They won't get worn down.

Muzzin-Doughty (They seem comfortable together. Let's just keep that. No need to throw a rookie in there for DD to babysit. He needs to concentrate on attacking.)

Schultz-Voynov ( It's an OK pairing, but Voynov needs to get his **** together and this pairing will be slightly better than OK.)

McNabb-Martinez (Why not McNabb? Green has been trash for a very long time. How much worse can he be defensively? At least MvNabb has the ability to make up for mistakes on the other end.)

Quick (Better get back to his game. A game 6 stealer is in order)
Jones (GAA 0.00 SV% 1.0000. Sutter, this guy is unbeatable lol!)

i don't think they need to go get a Top 6 C, they have one in Carter already. re-sign Gabby to play with Kopitar and figure out which dumpster fire of Brown and JW will play up top with them. Carter with Pearson and Toffoli on the 2nd line.

retool the bottom 6 and the D

We just need to get to game 7 then Williams and Richards will find a way. Then we lose to Chicago in 5.

Dean has to shoulder a significant amount of blame for the bottom six, last year the Kings did not score a single ES goal from the bottom six in 18 playoff games, they lost in the WCF to Chicago, losing three of the games by a single goal, a goal from the bottom six in any of those games could have swung the series. And Dean did absolutely nothing over the summer except trade for a side show clown in Carcillo and let Richardson walk, other than that the entire bottom six returned, to me that was Dean failing to send a message to those players that there playoff performances were unacceptable, and not only did he fail to shake anything up, he made financial commitments to Clifford and Lewis. Lewis I am ok with because he is a good 4th liner who can kill penalties, Clifford is not an NHL player.

But perhaps some of it is system too, Stoll, Richards, Brown, Williams and TT have all played on the bottom six and have previously played larger roles with the team and yet the bottom six continues to be a black hole not only offensively but defensively. We have no idea what the coaches tell them, maybe the coaches don't want them opening it up at all, seems a bit odd but you do kind of have to wonder why no matter who ends up down there the results are usually the same.

That works too. As long as Mitchell aka injury prone man is gone along with Matt Greene. I will be happy. Reggie I can put up with.

Greene -3 in 7 games
Nolan, 0 pts -3 in 3 games
Richards 3 pts, -5 in 12 games
Clifford 1 pt, -3 in 10 games
Voynov 2 pts, -2 in 12 games

+/- can be a flawed stat, but I think it tells the story pretty well here.

The Kings worst players have been so much worse than the worst players on the other teams.

If someone had told you Gaborik would have 5 goals through the first 5 games of this series, with all of them at the Pond I think we all would have really liked the Kings chances, but not only are so many other guys treading water, we have a few guys who have flat out drowned.
