My brain doesn't even allow me to consider what Quick could end up becoming.

I start thinking about the potential of his place in NHL history and my legs get all shakey then the room starts spinning and I have to sit down and watch some cricket to get right again.

 me too!

Fixed :-)

On an off season note, I really hope Penner with consider taking a minor pay cut to stay. He seems like a great locker room guy and he's hilarious. And in big time games he really does give his all, I hope Dean and Penner can figure something out that works for our salary cap. It really wouldn't hurt to have him as part as our LW depth over King.

True.

I'd offer him $2,000,000 at the MOST.

Does a pancake disorder count as an injury? because i'd rather sign him to a million dollar contract with big playoff performance bonuses...

Plenty of top ten picks have been busts....There is probably about four each year....

What exactly do people expect ? If you're a GM for any length of time, you are going to pick lots of busts.

I would hate to see Lou Lam's draft record of busts....He probably has a long list....But he also has a long list of success.

Drafts are a lot like baseball. If you get 3 players for every 10 picks, that's really good. Sometimes the lead-off hitter doesn't get on. Sometimes a guy may not get on base until his 3rd at bat. Might hit a home run, might hit a single, might walk, might strike or ground out.

What's funny though is that while there are too many focusing on the immediate present, they are still forgetting that this team has gutted itself into Game 5 of the WCF. C'mon now!! We were just stoked to make the playoffs three seasons ago!!

Which has happened only 2 other times in franchise history. There's never been a 2 year span where the Kings have played the most playoffs games in the league. For a franchise that has been rather irrelevant for most of its time in the NHL, that's not nothing.

Penner is that relationship you keep going to back to even after numerous times it just doesn't work out. You see a glimpse of hope and then it shatters and you're stuck thinking.. "what was I doing"..

It's time to move on from Penner.. he's a good guy, but it's just time..

NOOO.....if by a minor pay cut you mean 1.5mil, then great. Otherwise, enough with the Penner experiment. It's guys like this that cost you points during the regular season....great, he's funny and he's a nice guy, then put him on TV next to Anson Carter.

He was awesome for us in last years run, but you can't pay a guy millions to not show up until he's ready. **** him, we're done.

How can we afford to let Penner walk with how weak we are at LW? Penner is probably the top LW in the UFA pool. Our only option would be to trade Bernier for one and the return will probably be a LW prospect that might not be ready to step in yet. With Penner gone King becomes our second line left winger and he should probably be on the fourth line.

We will address our needs at LW. That is the reason to let Penner go. We can do better.

Seeing him tweet about a different team will make me sob like a baby

But are there actually better options out there? How do we fill that need with whats out there? Whose available to replace Penner?

There are not only UFA's to go after, we have a few players we will likely be moving and we also have Pearson and Kitsyn down on the farm that could be ready to make the team.

There are several teams that are deep on the wings who are desperate for help on D and in Nets as well as a few looking for big bodied bottom 6ers. We will be fine.

MacArthur? Shrug.

I wish Penner weren't so inconsistent. Then it would be a no-brainer. The guy has unstoppable size/strength when he's on. Seeing that Bickell wants to model his game after Penner made me lol a bit though...and sob.

Penner should be resigned to another one year (reasonable) contract. Who cares about the regular season when it comes to him? He brings it come playoff time. Physical play, puck possession, and size that can't be replaced. He's a good locker room guy, and the free agent alternatives are very thin. Letting him walk would be a mistake.

The problem is that we actually need a top 6 LW who can score both in the reg season to make certain we win enough games to lock in home ice if possible and we need LW scoring in the playoffs to win a cup. Penner would be great as a 3rd liner but we have to move King or Clifford if we sign him to take that spot.

Not a big deal as I would rather have Penner over King but then only if Penner would play for no more than $1.350 that we pay Richardson who is also a specialist.

I think DL will look to improve the team wherever he can and that includes our top 6 LW. If that means that Penner will be playing somewhere else I am ok with it. He has the game the size and the skill to score more often, he just can't seem to do it anymore.

Its a shame because if he could give us the same level of game that we get during the playoffs every night and pop in 18 goals a season he would be fine. He is too inconsistent with his effort and has lost any sight of his scoring touch. Its time to find a better option for our top 6 much as I hate to see him leave I am alright with him being gone.

Those players don't even have AHL experience yet, its such a big risk and can hurt a players development if they're not ready.

Bernier is are only trade piece that will return anything of value, and even then it will probably be a prospect and not an NHL player. A bottom 6 player is not going to bring in a top 6 left winger.

Bring back Penner on a 1 year deal at 2m and that would be fine with me. Package King in a deal with Bernier and a pick or prospect to get a legit left wing via trade.

Trade - Kopitar - Williams
Brown - Richards - Carter
Penner - Stoll - Toffoli
Clifford - Fraser - Lewis

Like I said, lack of regular season production might not seem like a big deal, but you have to wonder where this team would be in the standings if players like this didn't underachieve.

The dude has scored only NINE regular season goals in the last two seasons....and made over 7-million dollars. That's a lot of cap space to be giving out for such little production.

I love Penner in the playoffs just like everyone else, but that's not this team's identity...to reward players all season long for sucking ass. Bad example to the young players you are trying bring up.

Bernier Martinez and possibly another D might be moveable not to mention King or Nolan too. We have Forbort Gravel Roach and Miller on the farm who are all to varying degrees very desirable D prospects along with Ellerby and if needs be Muzzin too (though I don't see us moving Muzzin). So we have plenty of value to move, some of which will almost have to be moved depending on how things work out in order to get our top 6 LW.

I agree that Pearson (who just finished his first AHL season playing 64 games for 20g and 28a) has little experience but he will be 20 by the time the season starts so he isn't purely green. He is green but not entirely so.

Kitsyn is a 3rd liner and I believe he will be in the AHL next season for the entire time (unless injuries require we bring him up). He is a skilled puck possession game player who hits hard so he wouldn't be a perfect fit for our top 6 just yet.

I am the first guy around who agrees that rushing a player can damage their development but I don't see that being the case with either Pearson or Kitsyn.

As for the UFA list I think that there might be an upgrade among them but I will be looking for what we will do trade wise to see how we fill this need.

No matter how we do it we simply have to upgrade our second line LW. Penner can't be relied on to fill that spot any longer.

Any chance coaching staff makes a decision to convert Toffoli to LW over the summer? That may be the best possible move versus looking at a trade or free agency. If Toffoli can make the switch that can solve all our LW problems right there.

Or...wait for it...

What about Kopitar moving over to LW...?

Just thinking outside the box here.

Edit:

Kopitar-Carter-Toffoli
Brown-Richards-Williams

Hmm

How about Brian Bickell??? this dude not only wants to be Penner, he plays better than Penner and you can probably get him for half the price. UFA on July 1st.

Hmm

No but Toffoli might move to back up goalie and Doughty could work at LW on our second line.

Put Quick right between the two at C (his name is Quick so he's probably pretty fast).

Doughty/Quick/Suter (player coach).

THEN add your line of Kopitar/Carter/Cartman for the trifecta!

Box shmox!
