Not really sure how Smith is to blame for either of these games. Edmonton’s defense and forwards are awful.

McDavid and Drai are consistently taking 1:30-2:00 shifts. MacKinnon is taking :30 second ones. And I mean look at the Avs 3rd and 4th lines. NAK waiver wire - LOC whatever - 35 year old Helm. McDavid has gotten burned multiple times doing this in Colorado and LA series.

Also that Nurse contract is going to be such an anchor.

I’ve noticed this too. McDavid and Draisaitl tend to stay out a really long time, basically determined to not leave the ice until they can make something happen.

The trouble is, if they end up chasing the puck, these shifts can lead to the other team gaining momentum. I feel like they’d be better off just accepting that you can’t win every single shift in a hockey game.

It was a thing of beauty watching Makar neuter McDavid. McDavid isn’t used to defenders who can match his speed/movement

It's not even his body that is the problem....it is his brain. He is not a very cerebral player. And that isn't even a hockey iq thing....there are plenty of effective d-men with moderate hockey IQ that just do their job and not be stupid. But I mean sometimes ....he just goes full Pejorative Slur out there.

And like they said in Tropic Thunder....you should NEVER go full Pejorative Slur.

So he's a younger jack johnson.

In over his head...two all time and unsustainable playoff runs....huh??

1. He has done well with the tools provided
2. He is a rookie coach...not sure what that second sentence means.

Anyhow, these are the tools he inherited. It was shit before him...and he made it better.

That said, there was a lot of non-calls in this game. Hell, there was even one where Mack was gonna get a holding penalty and with the ref having his arm halfway up Mack let go so the ref put his arm down.

The Oilers deserved every penalty they got. But the Avs definitely should have had more too.

I don't even remember what it is like to have confidence in your goalie. :(
Yes McDavid and Draisaitl will not be able to sustain their current pace, they're probably the two of the best players in the world, but its unrealistic to expect them to score over 2.5 points per game. Especially with the little amount of help they get.

Woodcroft is lucky that McDavid and Draisaitl have had individual moments of brilliance throughout the playoffs, as the Oilers are so bad 5v5 without them on the ice. The oilers aren't beating anyone with Xs and Os, they are the least structured team left in the playoffs by far. They bleed chances against, and with Smith falling back to earth vs Colorado, they are getting exposed. Notice how the majority of Edmonton's chances come off of an individual play from McDavid or Draisaitl? Notice how Colorado's forwards usually have a smart F3, and hunt back to negate/limit odd man rushes? Colorado gets in an forechecks, and creates turnovers (Edmonton having bad D definitely helps also), Colorado's defense controls the puck during neutral zone transitions and helps set their forwards up for success, Edmonton doesn't do that nearly enough. Some of that comes down to Colorado having a better/deeper team, but a lot of that is the culture and coaching that has been established in Edmonton. Thats the difference between the two teams. Colorado is very well coached. Look no further than Smith giving up a goal, and immediately looking for anyone else to blame, thats the culture around that team.

Talking about the refs after giving up over 30 chances in back to back playoff games is a strange look for Woodcroft. Colorado has more power plays because they have the puck way more.

Been saying it since the start, don't think Edmonton has a win in them here. It's a sweep.

No sweep. I still think Edmonton gets one of the 2 @ home. I really hope we can split the games in Edmonton and get a chance to finish them in Game 5 at home.

It´s good to go up 2-0 and defend home-ice, but this series isn´t over. Never count out McDavid and Draisaitl, especially at home.

My goodness Makar is absolutely unbelievable. Unfortunately for the Oilers they are matched up against an absolutely insane team - I would be surprised to not see this Avalanche team win the cup. So many transition options from their defense, speed from all 4 fwd lines. Gramcouz just has to show up.

Edmonton on the other hand - pretty dislikable team. Nurse, Kassian, Kane and their coach that looks like a failed sex change. McDavid and Draisaitl will be 1st ballot hall of famers. And there is just not enough there for them even during this world class performance they are putting on so long as Ken Holland is the GM. The comparisons to the Crosby/Malkin duo that dominated the league isn't apt. Not because of the ability from McDavid and Draisaitl but because the Penguins built good hockey teams around those guys. Puljujarvi, Kassian anywhere near a Stanley Cup roster...nope.

The Avs are a team that was expected to contend for the Stanley Cup and the Oilers are playing with house money at this point. Tonight’s game looked like it too.

But this “house money” won’t ever go away. This is the best version of them. They won’t have the money to re-sign Kane for what he’s gonna command. If they do make the space they are literally a 1 line team and we saw where that got them. They aren’t getting better , only older and worse.

I count them out actually. Maybe the Oilers can win one game or even two, but this is the conference final and it's not about 2 superstars doing it all on their own. this just doesn't work as Colorado is the the far superior team in so many categories. Look at the Oilers lines 3 and 4 and their D.... You can't just play to survive or give McDrai some rest against the best teams in the league.
What makes it even worse is the limited play by Drai because of injury. So there's not a lot of hope for the Oilers right now.

I'm cheering for them but i guess the journey is over soon. A lot of credit to Colorado, they have a great team! 👍🏻

Quiet by his standards. Created a lot in the 1st period but it seemed he and the team lost all their life after they allowed those 3 goals in 2-ish minutes.

Credit to the Avs, they played an outstanding game today.
0 points and 2 shots is quiet by most player's standards. Will be interesting to see how Woodcock either:

A: tries to get him favorable matchups
B: keeps running him into the buzzsaw

Puljujarvi is going to need to take a couple more quirky fun animal pics to get back in Oil fans' good graces. Can't be missing the opportunities he had this game. Watching him play hockey is like watching an oversized octopus on rollerblades, just chaotic limbs flailing everywhere.

I forgot he was even playing in this series.

So did he

God I love the overconfidence from non Oiler fans here. Not even saying we're going to win this, but Christ you guys must love the smell of your own farts.

Can't wait to see what the next week brings.
