It´s going to be a very interesting tournament. Canada, Czechs, Russia and Sweden seem to be favourites. I hope we will see some very good games in the playoff.

Since I don't get to see the games in Boston, I appreciate the play by play from you guys. Thanks much.

He hooked the referee, and also poked one of the linesmen

It almost looked like he took a stab at the ref (or linesman). In any case, it was a dumb move..

He speared the ref?? :biglaugh: If that is true then goodbye Nash for the tournament. That is a Major and a Game Misconduct if he does it to a player...but a ref!?

The entire defense looked bad IMO. They weren't marking the Swedes very well, and looked progressively tired as the game moved on. I also agree that Souray wasn't very strong defensively. He seems to be getting lost on the big ice, which is a surprise considering he played for Frolunda this season.
The defensive schemes put in by Habscheid/Renney are atrocious. Bobby Orr would have trouble looking good with what the D is being asked to do.

Too many gaps between the D and the forwards coming back. No support on the puck.

You can really see the absence of Hitchcock and Martin from the coaching staff.

Pretty good game, it's just weird that it takes a few minutes for the Swedes to wake up in the beginning of every period, what's up with that? Other than that a solid game by the Swedes, nice to bounce back and win after trailing 2-0 and 3-1 in the game. :)

Good game by the Swedes. GOD was Kenny Jonsson good. Please, please, PLEASE Kenny, come back to NYI...

Better team won, neither goalie was good but Lundquist was better than Broduer. The Swedes played so much better as a team, worked harder and controlled the play most of the game. Very deserving victory.

Coming into the tourney, the defence had question marks labelled all over it. The forwards weren't that great either. I was one that balked over the additions of Maltby, Marleau, and Walker when the team was named.

Make no mistake...I was not being sarcastic about Luongo taking over...this defence core has now sunk to its official lowpoint!
There is nothing Brodeur can do for these guys...but give Marty credit...he was great vs USA,and bought Team Canada's pylon patrol time to get things together...but, "together" is not happening yet! It is not just Jovo or just Hannnan...Boyle had played well at times...but 2 minors in the 2nd period today were costly on momentum. The "Pylonic influeza" is spread, like any epidemic...to always reliable guys like Redden now too!
Luongo has the acobatics required to preform in the maze of confusion and calamity.

A great game, the goalies didn't get much help from the defense today, Boyle was the only d which did an allright game for Canada but I think the coaches looked quite stressed and worried..can't understand why they picked such an inexperienced coach...

Along with most players on Team Canada, non-existant.
Disagree...94 was very good through the first half of the game...but in the 2nd half things were scrambled and unprecitable...thanx to a continuation of Canadas poor defensive play...I thought our Forwards had their best game so far...but our "D" hit a tournament low.

We've got some more guys under 30 that are pretty decent. Like Marcus Nilson, Huselius and Ekman, a pretty decent line right there. But I like this team, not that many flashy players but they have character and smarts.

What I hope for next year is that some 19-21 year old kid takes the final step to the national team. It's about time..

Hope so too... some of the players I hope take the step:

Lars Jonsson
Staffan Kronwall
Robert Nilsson
Calle Söderberg (why don't he sign with a SEL team?)
Loui Eriksson

Our defense seems secured for 5 years to come with Bäckman, Kronwall, Tallinder, Öhlund, Tjärnqvist, Johnsson. It looks a little thin behind those for d-men born 1976 or later but hopefully some of those prospects step up soon.

On forward it looks better. Zetterberg and the twins are good/decent top-6 forwards IMO. Weinhandl and Kahnberg needs to ge more pysichal, Sjöström must find the goal but those players could take the next step. And behind them Eriksson, Nilsson, Söderberg, Salmonsson, Steen and Bergfors comes. A underrated player that I hope steps up are Rickard Wallin.

On the bottom lines we got good depth. Påhlsson, Hagos, Franzen, Holmqvist, Berglund, Hedström, Tolsa, Lundqvist could all fill spots there.

No big stars maybe, but good, hard-working players.

Redden and Boyle are the only 2 team Canada defenseman that are playing good at all. I do wonder how much we miss Martin-Hitchcock-Quinn, Habschied is a junior coach, MacTavish and Dave Renney are below average NHL coaches.

As for Sweden, they looked good 5 on 5, but their PP had a GLARING weekness at the left point with Backman(sp). So would Sweden consider putting Alfredsson on the point?

I'd like to see:

PP1: Kronwall - Alfredsson - Hedström - Zetterberg - Kahnberg/Weinhandl
PP2: Bäckman - Weinhandl/K Jönsson - D Sedin - H Sedin - Samuelsson

I would also say regehr was quite decent. His first passes out of the zone are quite solid and he's making up for Jovo's crap-tastic defense so far. He has also been a positive help to Canada's PK. I feel sorry for Jovo's defensive partner in Vancouver.

Team Canada is really lacking chemistry - they're not playing like a 5 man unit at all. Chemistry has been known to make or break teams at the Worlds. Hopefully this game will help the team gel.

On the other hand, Sweden has done an awesome job with what they have and are playing like one unified unit. A very well balanced team. IMO they're the favorites at this point...
