I can't imagine anyone expecting a shutout in a Canada-Russia game, given the way Russia's goaltender and Canada's defense are playing. :D

you forgot about our defence  :D

My only comment on this game : Russia's defense is awful.

They made some mistakes, but remember that Finland has world class forecheckers, and that's pretty much all we have. Be glad that you have Datsuyk, Kovalev, Ovechkin, etc, etc...

BTW... What was wrong with Kovalchuk? He has 6 points in this tournament, but at least today he seemed to be really invisible. Or was I just so in awe of Datsuyk's game that I didn't see anybody else?

yeah, 1 own goal and almost a second!

But those are not mistakes, just bad luck. You can't blame the D on those. You can blame them though when they give up the puck in their own zone, which happened quite often today in 3rd period and overtime. Fortunately for Russia Finland's forwards are so bad when it comes to scoring. If we had even one afinogenov we might have won today.

Afinogenov never scores, so I don't see your point.

That's excatly my point. He never scores and he's still 10 times better scorer than any Finnish player in this tournament.

PLease stop underrating the Finnish team. Russia could have had a much better team than this one, and so could Finland.

O sh*t Russia won! I wanted to sleep badly coz the game was at 2 a.m. and after Russia let 2 goals I swichted off tv and all night had dreams that Russia somehow ties it and wins it. I just woke up and my mood wasn't ok and when I saw the score... wow! but I didn't see the game and there won't be reply :(((

Note to the FLorida Panthers coaching staff:

Should the NHL introduce soot-outs into the regular season when the NHL resumes, DO NOT PICK Olli Jokinen as one of the shooters. He's completely useless on penalty shots, because he can't score garbage goals from them.

Very exciting game! Congrats to Russia!

Better and essentially more skilled team won this game. Pavel Datsyuk is indeed the best example of what's right in Russian hockey. What an astounding player! Everytime he got the puck I was afraid it's going to find its way behind Bäckström. And that shot on his shorthanded goal was just beautiful.

Bäckström played a pretty good game, but he totally sucked in the penalties, even Afinogenov scored. And why was Petteri Nummelin one of our shooters? Oh, well. Team Finland put up a good fight, especially in the 3rd period and overtime, so I'm not even very disappointed. I'm just glad this horrible tournament is now over so I don't have to take stress of it anymore. Now we can concentrate on watching quality hockey.

This is totally mad situation for me, but somehow I feel that Sweden and Russia are now my favourites.

WOW, this is the sort of post some of the Canadians ought to pay attention to, an intelligent and gracious post from someone, after his team has lost.

I think both teams played well, and I think Finland has proved it has an extremely strong team and will continue to have for the next few years at least.

Somehow I cant imagine there'll be many posts from Canadians like this if Russia ends up beating Canada in the next round.

It's unfortunate that we'll never know. :)

Actually, I'm cheering for Datsyuk, Draper and Maltby. If Canada wins, that's just gravy. I'm stoked to see Dats and the russians play. This will be the first Russian game that TSN has aired.

During the 2002(?) World Juniors in Halifax (where I live) Russian beat Canada in the final. I was cheering for Canadian gold or a GWG by Grigorenko. :) The "Best Forward" for Grigorenko helped me get over the loss.
