I'll never forget learning this guy was somehow only 170 pounds with chicken legs. Always thought he was big with how he played haha

After seeing him after his first camp in shorts and a tshirt I thought there would be no way in hell he wouldn’t get snapped in half in the nhl. He was obviously powerful but looked like a high school freshman. Watching him make an impact in short order was so so nice. All heart all the time. One of those guys I wish was a king for life. I’m so glad he’s gotten so much respect around the league for a hard nosed but honest game and that he had such a great career. Always gonna be one of my favorites.

Congrats on a solid career, Wayne Train. :highclap: My favorite Flyer during his 8 years with the team. Miss watching him in his prime with the fights, goals, standing up for his teammates. Solid team leader. Definitely missed here in Philly

Ya man, no clue how he did it. Skating stride was awkward as hell towards the end, and he was never actually big, but he just played hard and somehow was a physical and scoring force for 5+ years of solid health and hits. Edit- 47 point average with Philly while hitting and fighting? Damn dude, heck of a peak, congrats to him if this is the end.

Love Simmons’s. Really wanted to see him give Pittsburgh that gritty skill they’ve often lacked.

lol. Everything is relative.

I remember a time when the father of a retired NHLr (who will remain nameless, and whose son played in the late 70s and 80s, 1000 NHL games) saw Wade Belak in shorts at the lake I live at and he said to me “who’s that?”. I told him and his response was “with skinny legs and no ass like that?“

Now Wade was a sturdy dude too, but compared to the 70s vintage players not as thick. Players have gotten more muscled and less bulky over the decades for sure.

Always loved Simmonds. I saw him in his early years with the Kings and hope there'd be some way he'd end up playing for Detroit.

The skinniest power forward you'll ever see.

Impossible for me to dislike a skilled tough guy who plays the game the right way and honors the code. Pretty sure every fan wished Simmonds was on their team when was in his prime. I have nothing but respect for him and his career.

This guy was almost a Hab... Philly and Montreal had arranged a deal at the 2013 draft: if Montreal's guy was still around at Philly's pick, and Philly's guy wasn't, then they'd flip Pacioretty and Simmonds, and Montreal would get Philly's pick (#11) and Montreal's pick (#25) would go the other way.

The only problem was, both Philly and Montreal wanted the same guy.... who never amounted to anything. (Samuel Morin). Both teams were unaware of who the other was actually targetting until after the draft. (there is another version of this story where Philly turned down the proposed trade)

I remember really, really wanting him on the Oilers back in the day. On a team which was all about "skill" but with little heart or grit to back it up, he was the exact kind of player that was lacking.

One of those guys who you will never hear a bad thing about. He played the game the right way and his work off the ice has made an immense impact for so many people.

Congrats on a great career Wayne!

Wayne Train was a great player in his day and an absolute soldier in his Leafs tenure. He is a hometown kid and a class act. Nothing but respect for him.
