Rumor: Leafs to make a push to sign Saad

on Insider trading Chris Johnston said that he expects the Maple Leafs to make a real push to sign Brandon Saad.

CJ is onw of the most connected guys in the sport, I'd argue he's #2 next to Lebrun, and when it comes to the Leafs he's the #1 guy.

I'm not surprised to hear that the Leafs are in on Saad, they need forward depth and while I know he is having a down year he did score 26 goals last year I don't think that kind of goal scoring just vanishes in less than a year.

People will say the Leafs need a center and it's true but they also need a winger.

they need to load up on as much depth as possible because I'd argue this is the weakest the Atlantic has been in a decade and this is their best chance at a run.

I wouldn't be shocked if this got done seeing as Saad does have connections to both Berube and Savard.

I trust CJ WAY more then I trust Frank.

Frank is wrong just as much if not more then he is right.

this is the same guy that said that Necas would be traded by game 1 of the finals, he got traded in January.

he said Marner would be traded he wasn't.

he said Robertson would be traded in September, he hasn't been so far.

He gets some stuff but he is wrong A LOT

Well he broke the trade tonight. He clearly has sources, he just pulls the trigger too early on things only being discussed without anything being concrete.

Anyways, Saad looks pretty cooked. It feels like GMs once again getting caught up in the name value and not properly evaluating what the player is right now.

It's free money for a team if he plays with a minimum contract. There's no risk in giving him a chance.

what they don't do is chip min goa
I mean he's better then Reaves, Holmberg, Deewar etc.

I used to like Holmberg, and do like Dewar they do a lot of good things but what they don't do is chip in goals, like at all.
 
I think if you terminate your contract and you are leaving millions on the table you are doing it for a true contender...I am not sure if the Leafs are such a team unless they pay him big dollars.

He also broke lehner being injured when he was playing.

The entire kraken roster.
He called Arizona being moved to Utah months before anyone else and just broke the mikko trade.

Ihe did get the entire Seattle roster. and then got nothing for a long time.or Bobby Mack when he's around.


Frank does have connections but he is wrong a lot I don't trust him like I do CJ, Lebrun, Friedman

There is a reason he isn't with TSN or Sportsnet

Leafs are clearly a contender a 3 game losing streaking doesn't change that.

they have been in the top 10 teams in the league and at times top 5 all season and they have done it while being absolutely gutted by injury yet they only lost top spot in the Atlantic on Thursday and will have 2 games in hand on the Panthers after Sunday.

they are absolutely a contender.

They just need a couple of depth forwards

Was he on Berube's team in STL? I'm aotrle fuzzy on that roster.

Aside from the possibility of that connection, a scoring middle 6 forward is one of our needs, so I can see it.

Sorry, they are a great regular season team for several years now but they are not close to a contender...if they start winning some rounds frequently like lots of other teams (contenders) then you are right...but as it is now (if I were a hockey player and would choose a team that has a great chance to win the SC this year) I would chose another team...like Panthers, Oilers, Avs, Stars, Knights...
Let's be honest, remove your Leafs glasses, you would do the same.

That's not bashing on the Leafs, that's just like it is now...maybe they have a great run this year and then we could have a different situation in the next season.

people keep brining up winning rounds like it's relevent to being a contender but it's not, it should be but it's not.

While you do have guys like Crosby that win right away like Crosby and Towes and Kane, there are just as many if not more that don't.

Mario Lemieux didn't win until around the point Matthews is at now.

it took Yzerman 12 years to win he was around 31.

Ovchekin took even longer he didn't win until his 14th season he was 32 or 33.

as for taking my Leaf glasses off, I don't know man, if one of the top 10 teams in the league called, one of the top teams in the east and Toronto is both.

if one of the top teams in the league called me and said I had a chance to play on a team with Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares on it that would be attractive to me.
